Visualizations During Construction

Out-of-sequence steel erection

New pier construction prior to bridge demolitionPile driving concurrent with steel erection

Identify Scheduling Conflicts

Benefits: Schedule clash detection - steel erection occurring near highway within close proximity to where pile driving work is simultaneously occurring. Reviewed steel erection/vibration specifications for distance and updated schedule logic (shifted resources) so that work would not occur simultaneously.Missing logic - Construction of PS-8 before existing bridge steel demolition. There is enough space to construct all three footings for PS-8. There will likely be enough space to construct Column 3, but it will be difficult to complete construction of columns 1 & 2, and the cap beam cannot be built until that section of the existing bridge (which is span 10) has been completely removed.Simultaneous segment steel erection at abutment, which was on the critical path, identified and schedule was updated.

Contractor Means and Methods

Shoring towers constructed prior to trestle construction.Temporary shoring towers erected prior to existing bridge abutment demolition. This enhanced communication with contractor to revise demolition sequence.64

From the Digital Model, the operators were able to figure out that with the elevation differences, they will not be able to see each other and spotters were needed. The model also helped to figure out what lane the contractor would take on the night of- they were originally going to take the right lane but because of the curve of the girder they needed to take the left lane (median)65

Visualizing Change

Megan is looking for a model photo to demonstrate going from drawing, to model, to actual photo. However, if there isnt a good one we should take this slide out bc it doesnt fit the theme of the presentation.67
