    will explain how to search the repository and add your

    research to it. We will also explore Australian Research Online

    (http://research.nla.gov.au/) the repository of Australias

    research output plus a a range of international research

    repositories and look at the benefits of exposing yourresearch to search engines like Google.

    do some background reading to help meunderstand the topic. Where do I start?

    Researching for Assignments

    Firstly, you should always consult your lecturer if unsure of

    your assignment topic. However, the Library has a large

    collection of dictionaries and encyclopaedias that are veryuseful for definitions and for gaining a basic understanding of

    concepts, theories and key people in the field. Many of these

    resources are now available online via the Library website. At

    the end of this session you will be able to analyse assignment

    topics to identify key concepts and terms, as well as locate

    and use relevant dictionaries and/or encyclopaedias withinyour subject area to gain background information for

    assignment topics.

    Correct referencing of sources used for your assignments is an

    important academic skill, not least because it helps you avoid
