SUDAN: Humanitarian Snapshot as of 30 June 2016
This Humanitarian Snapshot provides an overview of the humanitarian situation in Sudan, as of 30 June 2016, using information obtained from UN agencies and partners, including the Government of Sudan. People living in protracted displacement in Darfur since 2003 and those displaced or affected by conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile States since 2011 account for most people in need of humanitarian aid.
Humanitarian organisations that are members of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (the primary mechanism for inter-agency coordination of humanitarian assistance involving key UN and non-UN partners) estimate that at the end of 2015 there were 3.2 million IDPs in Sudan, including 2.6 million in Darfur and 600,000 in South Kordofan and Blue Nile. These figures are indicated as estimates due to the lack of access to some areas.
During the first six months of 2016, 76,000 people were newly displaced across Darfur, according to the UN and partners. Up to an additional 124,000 people were also reportedly displaced (in addition to another 50,000 who have reportedly returned) but the UN and partners have been unable to verify these figures due to a lack of access to the relevant locations.
In government-controlled areas of South Kordofan and Blue Nile an estimated 700 and 5,600 people respectively have been reportedly displaced since the beginning of the year.
