From Sue Welcome back to Term 3 to all children, staff and families. I trust that everyone is feeling refreshed and relaxed and had an enjoyable break from school. During the holiday period we had some projects completed including:

re-carpeting of the Prep foyer in the main building further line marking on the asphalt with now every space being filled with colourful words,

messages and games (we still have a set of norms to be added to the entrance area near Ludstone Street)

concreting of the area around the portable classrooms installation of a storm water drain on the eastern side of the main building installation of new cables to improve connectivity and efficiency in the main building.

Special events and highlights for this term will include:

The Lion King movie on Friday 19 July at 4.30pm at the Dendy Theatre in Brighton Mindful Movement program for Grades 3 and 4 A workshop at the Port Phillip Ecocentre on plastic for the Grade 5s Science with Wilko for Grade 3s with a focus on biological science exploring the essential

question of ‘How can we help living things thrive?’ Musica Viva shows for Grades F-4 An excursion to the Melbourne Museum for Grade 2s A parent session on Positive Body Image on Tuesday 13 August at 7pm House Athletics A session focussing on cyber safety and being an ‘upstander’ specifically for some senior

students Story Time transition sessions for 2020 Foundation students The Art Trail on Friday 13 September from 2 – 7pm A long day excursion for Grade 2s Swimming program for Foundation students A special Dads’ Club event on Thursday 12 September.

Mandarin Over the latter part of Term 2, our Chinese teachers including Jeffic, Agnes and Ms Pu from the Confucius Institute have been carefully appraising children’s effort and work in Mandarin classes. They have identified some children who show an aptitude for learning the language and impressive application during class time. The children below were recognised at an assembly at the end of last term: Year 1: Tamar Shevach in 1C, Wanda Bacskai in 1B Year 4: Alex Cena-Bandosz in 4A, Charlie Smyth in 4C, Grace Goodwin in 4C, Izzy Crenner in 4C Year 5: Jordan McClellan in 5B, Cameron Hart in 5B Advanced Mandarin group (recommended by Ms Pu): Patrick Hill in 6C, Neha Katta in 3A. Digimaker Awards Every Monday and Tuesday of this first semester, we've been running a very special after school club that gives our students the opportunity to extend their coding and programming skills and get better at learning the language of computers and robotic devices. This group of high achieving students from the DigiMaker After School Coding Club, have been able to complete the Scratch coding level in just under 2 terms! Well done to: Hamish Dale in 3B, Lucy Keen in 3B, Arielle Morton in 4E, Holly Miles in 5D, Kieran Tarshis in 5C, Rory Greenan in 4E, Blake Miles in 3C, James Morton in 6B, Arlo Ghoukassian in 3C and Alexander Cena-Bandosz in 4A.

Final Assembly Well done to 3E, Michelle Fernandez’s grade who led the singing of the National Anthem at assembly last term. Some children from grades 4 and 5 were enthusiastically performing ‘Old Town Road Dance’ which clearly captivated the audience. Their actions, costumes and energetic dance moves amid considerable hilarity proved to be very entertaining.
