Carpooling

• 600 of respondents expressed their interest in carpooling, among them 424 drivers

• Online tool for carpooling available for employees, more firms involved, more savings of parking spots

Licence 150 ths CZK/year = annual expenses for 13 parking spaces

• Almost zero operational costs

Page 6: Suggested measures for a mobility plan The next steps for sustainable mobility of the Czech Technology Park Markéta Fuchsová August the 22nd, 2013

Reserved parking spaces for carpoolers

• Reserved parking spaces was the most mentioned motivation for participation in carpooling (1/5 answers)

• Average time of finding parking space is 4 minutes• Currently 0,18 of parking space per employee in CTP

( =1 space per 2 drivers)

Specific number of parking spaces reserved for cars with more than 2 people in a car

=

benefit for employee

• 2-5 minutes time savings daily

Estabilishment of a Mobility Coordinator position

• Reasons:– need for systematic solving of parking problems– high potential of using bike and public transport on commute to work– missing complex problem solving

• Benefits for company:– systematical support– cooperation with partners– higher participation of employees in programs – current investments into Mobility Coordinator

<= > long-term savings in parking costs and higher employees satisfaction due to implementation of long-term measures

• Individual benefits: – Employer is concerned about employees commuting– One contact person for transport and mobility questions

Page 8: Suggested measures for a mobility plan The next steps for sustainable mobility of the Czech Technology Park Markéta Fuchsová August the 22nd, 2013

Establishment of mobility working group

• All involved companies are interested in cooperation on CTP mobility plan and have similar problems with commuting of employees

• Working group consists of companies and BUT representatives; on invitation other representatives take part (such as CTP management, Municipality of Brno and Brno Public Transport company)

Working group meeting once a month

Setting of a vision and action plan taking into consideration the future CTP development

• Cooperation benefits: higher probability of successful negotiations with partners, sharing know-how of measures implementation

Communication campaign

• Objective: – presentation of results of questionnaire on mobility behaviour and

presentation of next steps towards mobility plan– promotion of sustainable mobility, to raise awareness of carpooling,

electric bikes and other measures

• Outcome: – 1 month trial version of carpooling software + reserved parking

spaces for carpoolers – electric bikes rental, competition

• Benefits:

• Finding out actual use of carpooling and interest in electric bikes• Employees participation • Financial support from European commission programme

Financial incentives

• Financial motivation is the 2nd most important argument for drivers for switching to public transport (26%)

• Travel expense amount is the 2nd most important argument for cyclists and public transport users to choose this means of transport

Public transport travel card discount (by Cafeteria system or

redistribution saved parking spaces cost) Discounts at electric bikes/bikes/scooters sellers

10% discount on one-year public transport travel card 475 CZK/person = 475 000 CZK for 1000 persons = saved cost on

43 parking spaces yearly Increase in commuting by public transport -> higher requirements

on public transport quality • Sustainable mobility support, better company´s image

Page 11: Suggested measures for a mobility plan The next steps for sustainable mobility of the Czech Technology Park Markéta Fuchsová August the 22nd, 2013

Mobility club

• Principle: drivers´commitment of not commuting to work by car e.g. more than 100 x per year (= commute by car 8 x per month maximum)

• Above that every club member can pay annual contribution of e.g. 500 - 2000 CZK. The fee will be used for electric bikes purchase, additional facilitities, participation in carpooling, purchase of one-year public transport travel card, etc.

• Can be combined with motivational competition for the lowest number of arrivals by car

• Savings example: Number of cars/day Number of cars/yearTotal 150 37 800In a club 50 4 800Out of a club 100 25 200Savings 30 12 600

Purchase/lease of company electric bikes

• Hilly terrain is an obstacle for using bikes • Possibility to use bikes for business/private trips • Benefits: emission savings, avoiding traffic jams, company

´s logo presentation on bikes, alternative to company car during the season

• Expenses: 25 000 CZK electric bike purchase renting according to terms of a contract

(ca. 200 CZK/day)„We have already 3 company electric bikes. They are very

busy during spring and summer months. The bikes are used by about hundred employees, mainly for city meetings and

business lunches"

Social responsibility manager in Vodafone Premysl Filip.

Discussion on increase of bus No. 53 frequency

• Crowded means of transport is the most mentioned problem of public transport users

• Significant increase in commuters at the beggining of BUT academic year

• 751 respondents mentioned that they arrive at work between 7:30 and 8:30 AM

• Expected significant increase in commuters using bus No. 53 and tram No. 12 due to

completion of the 2nd phase of CTP and CEITEC

• Outcome : a letter with specific requests for extra lines

• Possible financial participation of companies

„The bus at this stop gets completely full very quickly. Getting in is usually fast and mass action, bus 53 is absolutelly crowded in a few seconds. Sometimes I can´t get on the bus..“

comment from the survey

Shuttle bus transport-Technobus

• Alternative to public transport increase in frequency

• Renting a bus/microbus/electric bus• E.g. 4 rides daily on the route

Záhřebská-Technická-Hradecká-Záhřebská (in morning and afternoon peaks)

• Operational cost: 3 400 CZK/daily = 816 000 CZK/year

+ cost on checking passengers and production of identification bus card

• Benefits: – transport separation of some employees

from students– better accessibility– less late arrivals– higher productivity of employees

Page 16: Suggested measures for a mobility plan The next steps for sustainable mobility of the Czech Technology Park Markéta Fuchsová August the 22nd, 2013

Discussion on pedestrian and cycling accessibility of CTP

• 4% of commuters cycle to work• Present cyclists find the traffic safety the biggest problem of

commuting• The most common motivation for drivers to cycle to work is

higher traffic safety and better cycling lanes connection• Outcome: measures for pedestrians

and cyclists higher safety in CTP (e.g. emphasis on speed limit 30 km/h, negotiations on faster implementation of CTP bike connection to existing cycleroutes projected in Generel)

Page 17: Suggested measures for a mobility plan The next steps for sustainable mobility of the Czech Technology Park Markéta Fuchsová August the 22nd, 2013

Bikesharing

• Bikesharing trial run • Involvement in feasibility study as a group representing

companies in business park • Bike connection between key spots in CTP

and Brno campuses • Possible cooperation between

university and CTP
