Suggestions forSuccess
Reading and math take practice. Here are a few ideas to help with that. Families may have other ideas to add to this list:
District and school website resources support and challenge student learning and are available at www.isd742.org.
Strengths-based enrichment is incorporated into daily classroom activities.
Each day begins with a dedicated morning meeting block that is rooted in the foundations of SEL (Social Emotional Learning) instructional strategies.
Everyday co-taught reading blocks that utilize and share teacher expertise.
The AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) college readiness program helps students develop the skills they need to be successful in college.
ALEKS (Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces) is an adaptive learning program for students.
Attend family fun nights and participate in activi-ties and strategies to promote student learning.
Read every day with your child. Reading for 20-30 minutes every day will help their learning grow.
Have fun with math. Use materials found at home to explore math or have students help you at the store.
Play word games with the new vocabulary words and find ways to use these words in family con-versations.
Be informed by looking for the school newsletters and visiting the school website regularly. Keep in contact with your student’s teacher using tech-nology like e-mail or the app Class Dojo.
Connect to any of the available online educa-tional sites such as Symbaloo. Click on Student Connect from your school’s webpage.
Encourage and support technology for school and academics. Use technology to enhance your child’s learning and education.
Talk with family about new vocabulary words and what they’re learning in math.
Bring home class newsletters and notices about family fun nights and fun school events.
Keep a log of games they play at home to prac-tice new vocabulary words and math.
Utilize some of the many educational links avail-able through the school website when they have screen time.
