Workshop Descriptions Encouraging family literacy Literacy is comprised of many components such as phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. This workshop will uncover ways to engage the whole family in reading and discussing what was read, as well as encourage more writing at home. Audience: Parents of students in PK, ES, MS and HS Parenting skills: Building your child’s self-esteem This workshop will provide parents with information and resources on how to overcome and correct unproductive habits that limit their child’s educational and social performance. You will discover how parents have the greatest influence on a child’s belief in himself or herself. Audience: Parents of students in PK, ES, MS and HS Bullying: What it is and what it isn’t It’s important for everyone in the school and community to work together to send a unified message against bullying. Participants will learn to identify paerns of behavior that demonstrate unwanted aggression in school-aged children that is repeatedly and intentionally harmful, both physically and emotionally. Bullying: Qué es y qué no esEs importante que todos en la escuela y la comunidad trabajemos juntos para mandar un mensaje claro en contra del acoso escolar o bullying. Concientización y prevención del suicidioEl suicidio es la segunda causa de muerte entre los jóvenes de edad escolar. Esta sesión afronta el fuerte tema del suicidio entre los jóvenes y proporciona a los padres estrategias de concientización y prevención. El presentador presentará información útil para ayudar a los padres y a otros miembros de la familia para que:

• reconozcan la conducta suicida y el daño a sí mismo,• identifiquen factores de protección, factores de riesgo y signos de

advertencia, • entiendan la prevalencia del suicidio.
