x- internet

An executable internet that supplants today’s web.

An extended internet that connect to the real world

The X-Internet, which boosts online users quality of experience and accelerates the number of connected devices

X- internet

‘X’ in X-Internet stands for: 1) EXecutable Internet 2) EXtended Internet

Executable Internet

Moves the locus of application execution closer to end-user devices

Smart code, such as Java and a distributed infrastructure

Reduce latency and enhance online users’ experience

“Intelligent applications that execute code near the user to create rich, engaging conversations via the Net.”

Minimize unnecessary data exchanges

Extended Internet

“Internet devices and applications that sense, analyze, and control the real world.”

Internet connectivity reaches beyond the traditional PC

Driven by ever cheaper sensors, smart tagging, and tracing technologies

Bridge the gap between the physical and online worlds

What kind of data flows from the X Internet?

Location, context, and status of vehicles and products

Alerts for equipment failure and other issues Usage of people and equipment in

conventional shop floor quality control Service levels in real time, like air fleet and

crew

Enterprises use X-Internet data in two ways

Real-time, event-driven, predictive Conventional offline analysis

The Root Problems of Today’s Internet The Root Problems of Today’s Internet

It’s dump – Static Web Pages hardly improve the same content presented on paper.

It’s boring It’s isolated – It is so remote from the real

world

Page 13: Sukdeep Singh

X Internet offers several important advantages over the Web

1) the wide availability of cheap, powerful, low real-estate processing;

2) it leverages ever dear bandwidth -- once the connection is made, a small number of bits will be exchanged, unlike the Web where lots of pages are shuttled out to the client;

3) X Internet will be far more peer-to-peer -- unlike the server-centric Web. This scenario could be marred by two threats: viruses and lack of standards. Once executables start to move fluidly through the Net, viruses will have perfect conditions to propagate. Standards, or rather the lack thereof, will block the quick arrival of X Internet.

X Internet advantages

X Internet incorporates Internet’s advantage with C/S’s advantage

Page 15: Sukdeep Singh

X Internet advantages

X internet provides easy to develop, C/S-like User Interface.

X Internet reduces data transfer

Page 16: Sukdeep Singh

X Internet advantages

Processing logic is distributed between the server and client, and this smart client device can process code locally

Downloaded executable applications are tiny as the size of a graphic file (approximately 15 Kilobytes)

X Internet can overcome these bandwidth limits

Page 17: Sukdeep Singh

X Internet advantages

Connects physical objects to the Internet via RFID, sensors and wireless networks

Radio frequency identification (RFID) tags are used to identify product location

Wireless sensors detect and send condition information of the surroundings

Biometrics help to identify trusted individuals

Page 18: Sukdeep Singh

Conclusion

X-Internet data feeds both real-time and conventional business intelligence

The greatest impact of X-Internet data is on customer-oriented business processes

Use BPM on critical business processes, as part of a broad platform infrastructure solution

Conclusion

Web has some problems: It does not best utilize limited telecommunications capacity.

Web is neither interactive nor real-world-aware enough for sophisticated interaction.

With its executable and extended properties, X Internet sounds promising.
