This question was asked to help determine the ages of my target audience. I found out that 76% of my target audience is a between the ages 15-16. As a result of this, I created the target audience of 16-30 year olds. I will attract this target audience by keeping my magazine new, updated and appealing to that age category. Within this audience there will be a split between the ABC1s and the C2DEs. This will also have a direct impact on the iconography used as well as house style and mode of address to attract this audience.

This question was asked to see the gender ratio within my target audience so that I can alter the technical and aesthetical elements within my magazine to appeal to my target audience.

It was found that 95% of my target audience was female however this was biased as only 5% were male. Because of this I will still add in elements, colour schemes and incentives etc. that appeal to both male and female genders.

I asked this question to find out what price people would be willing to pay. Although 14% of people said they would be willing to pay £4.00 or over for the monthly magazine which would make a lot of profit, 73% of the participants said they would be prepared to pay anywhere between £2.00-£3.99 for the issue.

Q4) What is your favourite colour?

This question was included within my magazine as I wanted to find out what colours appealed to my target audience the best. 47% of people said that they preferred the colour blue followed by pink (14%) and red (14%). A lot of music magazines do incorporate a lot of blue in their colour schemes. Blue is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith and truth. Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body therefore makes it a suitable colour to include into the colour scheme of my music magazine.

Q5) What is the first thing you recognise on a magazine?

I asked the participants what is the first thing they recognise on the front cover of a magazine. This highlighted to me what the most significant feature is. Also, what I need to put the most amount of effort into to make the magazine successful.

53% of my participants said that they notice the imagery first on a magazine. Therefore, I need to make sure I put maximum effort into my image on the front of my magazine.

Q6) What incentive would persuade you to buy the next issue?

When designing something with a specific audience in mind, it’s important to keep that audience once you have attracted them. Using incentives helps for persuading your audience to buy the next issue of your magazine if they know they are going to get something in return.

The most popular incentive choice from my participants was a Free EP with 33% choosing this option. Therefore, I will include a free download in my magazine to hopefully reel in my target audience.

Q7) What editorial features most appeal to you?

I asked this question so that I had a clear understanding of what to include in my magazine.

Although only 28% of my audience said they wanted to see interviews, I have decided I want to do this as the editorial pillar on my double-page spread as I feel it’s most conventional for a music magazine. I will also try and integrate photoshoot photos into the double page spread interview.

Finally, I don’t plan on physically writing about reviews but they will be included under the header on the contents page.

Q9) Do you regularly use social media?

I asked this question to help determine the psychographics of my target audience.

100% of my participants said ‘yes’ they do regularly use social media. This shows that my target audience use a lot of internet and will be interested in sites such as: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram etc. To help my magazine appeal to these psychographics I will include links to online services run by my magazine.

Psychographics Continued...

• Many of the participants in this questionnaire stated that they listen to music in their spare time. Some of their favourite artists are as follows: Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, One Direction and Ariana Grande. All of these singers stated above are classed within the pop genre. Therefore, I will include these and similar artists in my pop magazine.

Psychographics Continued...

• 52.17% of people questioned preferred serif style font the remainder favoured sans serif. So that both are fulfilled, I will use a majority of the sans serif style font on the front cover (masthead, cover lines etc.) and contents page. Then, I will use serif style fonts on a majority on the double page spread as it’s a font that’s said to be easier to read.
