Opportunities Abound

I am very happy to welcome, Ian Hennigar, our new Senior Manager of Peninsula Recreation. Ian’s proven record of leadership and recreation experience, coupled with our outstanding professional recreation staff, will ensure that the residents on the Peninsula continue to receive great value for outstanding recreational opportunities. You will find some great opportunities to meet your needs through our programming this summer. There is certainly something for everyone. Read through this guide and register early to avoid disappointment, as many of our programs fill up very quickly. Haven’t been in the new pool yet, make your plans to drop in soon and see what all the excitement is about. The attendance numbers have surpassed our wildest dreams. People are coming from all over to enjoy the new pool features and to ride the tallest water slide in the Greater Victoria Area. While they are here many take in another activity before visiting the pool. GREEN, GREEN, AND GREEN. Panorama is reducing more than 960 metric tons of green house gases thanks to industry leading heating for the pools. These green house gas savings are a direct result of heat recovery from the arena ice plant systems and the new Saanich Peninsula Wastewater Treatment Plant heat recovery system. Did you also know that 92% of the old pool building was diverted from landfill and recycled? Did you know that 80% of the new concrete for the pool project was produced within the proximity of North Saanich? Did you know the energy efficient lighting in the pool project saves 25% in energy consumption compared to similar facilities? The Peninsula Recreation Commission is just completing its Five Year Strategic Plan for 2010 to 2015. This included an intense and thorough dialogue with the major users and stakeholders in Recreation on the Peninsula. This document will guide the Commission in its decision making over the next 5 years.

Belle Perez-de-Tagle

Belle has taught Art and Dance (Hawaiian Hula and Philip-pine Dances) since 1975. In Winnipeg, she taught Hula Danc-ing in her private dance studio, and for three years, produced and directed “Belle’s Hawaiian Hula Show”, a weekly TV pro-gram. Her Kealoha Polynesian Dance Troupe performed for Folklorama and Eaton’s Spring Fevers. When she moved to Victoria, she also produced and starred in an 8-week TV Hula Show with Victoria Cable TV.
