Sports changes the lives of millions of children everyday.

Here at Team Elite Track Club, we do more than keep

kids off the street and out of trouble. We have volunteer

coaches who are trained in using sports as a vehicle to build

character in their young athletes. We teach kids about the

value of Teamwork, Diversity, Respect, Discipline,

Responsibility, and Leadership.

A Man After God’s Own Heart

A Letter of Encouragement Team Elite Athletes,

I would wish you good luck this

weekend and over the next few

weeks but children of God do not

need luck to succeed because

you are more than conquerors

and You can do all things

through Christ who gives you the

strength. Now is the time to put

all of your hard work to the test.

Give it your best and see how

God rewards you in the end. Do

not be afraid! Have faith in your

talents and abilities! As a

collegiate athlete I know the

stress and anxiety that your

going through, but once you step

on that track to race all of the

butterflies you feel will go away.

When it starts to hurt, keep

fighting! Never give up! Just go

out there relax and have fun! If

your race does not go as well as

you had hoped, keep your head

up! At the end of the day no

matter the outcome, Give God

all the honor and the glory. I

wish you all the best and you

will be in my prayers! Go Get

Em!!

*P.S. Cheer for one another, it

means a lot! :)

Welcome to the district qualifying

meet of 2011. This meet is the

determining factor for all athletes who

wish to advance to the Regional meet

which will b e held in Lawrence,

Kansas. All times will be FAT and only

the top eight athletes in each sport will

advance to the next level. Please

encourage our athletes as they strive to

achieve this level of greatness. For

those of you who may not advance to

regionals please DO NOT be

discouraged. Use the experience to

enlighten you for next years

competition. Remember, it isn’t over

until it is over! Good luck and use of

skill.

-Nutrition

The old adage that

you are what you eat

is still true. If you eat

candy bars and cheese

dip you will not get

positive results during

your race. Eat a

balanced diet with

lots of fresh fruit,

vegetables and plenty

of carbs after training

and protein to repair

muscle. It is also

vitally important to

stay hydrated before

and after training.

An electrolyte drink

such as Gatorade can

replace lost salts.

inaugural season with six

athletes from the south

Dallas area. The athletes are coached by Coach Tyrone

Coleman and Coach Ron

Shepard. Bantam girl, Joanna

Choice is from Dallas, TX.

She is an all A’s Honor Roll student who is also part of an

all-city choir. “I love

challenges. Whether that is

on the track or in the classroom, I love to step up

and take on the hard

challenges.” Intermediate girl, Takara

Coleman is from Jonesboro,

Ark. Takara is Arkansas’s 2 times Class 5A reining 400m

champion. she will be a

junior at Nettleton High in

Jonesboro this fall. “I enjoy training with this group. I’m

the oldest so they naturally

look at me as their leader. They work so hard. I have

to step up my training in

order to be a leader in this

group.”

Primary girl, Tyra Coleman is from Cedar Hill, TX. Though

she is one of the youngest, she is

all heart when it comes to train-

ing. Tyra is a long jumper and trains for the 400m.

Primary girl, Laila Crenshaw

is from Dallas, TX. Coach Cole-man discovered Laila’s talent

while she was at recess out run-

ning all the Kindergarten boys two years ago. “I finally get the

chance to coach her. She is the

nicest kid I have ever been

around. Very talented!” Youth boys, Jimmy King is

from Desoto, TX. He is a

straight A student who excels on the football field. “A lot of de-

fensive backs are great 800m

runners. This is his first year running track, but he is a quick

learner with a lot of heart. Jim-

my will graduate at the top of his

high school class. This kid is borderline genius.”

Primary girl, Jada Veal is

from Desoto, TX. “Jada will be a beast in a few years. A beast!!!! I

had to teach Jada how to run

slow. She just wants to run fast

all the time”

Primary girl, Skyy Willis is from Glenn

Heights, TX. Skyy plays

soccer and is the youngest

in the training group, but possibly the most driven.

“Skyy is one of those kids

that expects to win every time. She has the

competitive drive of a

grown person!”

Coach Ron Shepard,

coach of the 5-time

champion Dallas

Hurricanes, is known for

having one of the most

successful football teams

in Texas. He joined with

Coach Coleman to bring

that winning spirit to

Team Elite. “Coach

Shepard is a winner. He

is a great motivator with a

positive, winning attitude. He

brings a lot to the table.

Serving kids in his community

is what he loves doing.”

“These kids have

renewed my spirit.

The dedication and

belief they bring to

the table every day is

inspiring.” Our

motto is we run on

G.R.A.C.E.

G- go hard;

R-run smart;

A-attitude is

positive;

C-we’re competitive;

E-we’re empowered

by God!

I would like to say

thank you to Coach

Jones and the slew of

coaches and parents

for the support and

heart to let us be a

part of Team Elite.”

Team Elite Track Club

Do your best and let God do the rest

Team Elite Track Club is a non-profit organization with an

operating budget generated by fees, fundraisers and donations

and relies heavily on parents and volunteers to help run the

program.

Team Elite was founded by President and Head Coach, Wilford

Jones in 2005. We also have a staff of volunteer coaches to assist

and instruct the young athletes as well as an executive volunteer

staff to oversee the program’s activities.

Team Elite’s purpose is to promote Track and Field among the

youth in the great State of Arkansas and bordering states as well

as to foster the ideals of good sportsmanship, good citizenship

and model the importance of being a positive example for others.

We also work to reinforce the importance of hard work,

discipline, team work, commitment and encouragement on the

track and in the classroom and promote college prep awareness

for coaches, parents and athletes.

While enduring the summer heat

As we move into the summer

months attention must be

focused on two areas of safety;

heat related injuries and

horseplay. As the temperatures continue to rise we must

constantly encourage our

athletes to drink plenty of water

and electrolytes and stay under

the team tents. Also, if our

athletes are under the team tent

it’s easier to eliminate

horseplay.

*What happens if an athlete

becomes overheated?

a. Heat Cramp. Have the athlete

stop activity and in a cool place. Give water or sports drinks. Avoid strenuous activity for a few hours.
