Summer Reading Program 2015 Every year we have three distinct programs; one for children, one for teenagers, and one for adults. The overall theme changes from year to year, and this year is all about heroes!
The theme for this years program for children is Every Hero Has a Story! This program prepares children for success by developing and practicing early language skills. Children can attend fun and educational programs and earn incentive prizes for reading. See pages 4-5 for more information.
The theme for teens is Unmask! We encourage teens to continue developing their reading skills during the summer by providing goals and incentives for them. See page 6 for more information.
Escape the Ordinary is the theme for adults this year. This program provides motivation for lifelong learning and encourages families to read together. See page 7 for more information.
A majority of the incentives, drawing prizes, and special events are sponsored by the Friends of the Westfield Library and several other community organizations. We couldnt do it without them! For a list of this years sponsors, see page 2.
Saturday, June 27 @ 2:00 PM Join us for a health and education event right here in the library, courtesy of Dr. Mark Jones of Jones Chiropractic and Maximum Health in Westfield. Receive a FREE computerized spinal scan that gives a complete health assessment of the spine (in only 1 minute) and a 10 minute chair massage. Dr. Jones will be happy to give an exam and X-ray in his office for only $25 to everyone that schedules at that time (a $150 savings to the patient), and he will donate that $25 directly to the Friends of the Library fund. This is a great way to meet Dr. Jones and also help fund your local library!

From the Westfield Washington Public Library Board
This year has brought about some staff changes at WWPL. Sandy Rowland , Assistant Director, retired at the first of February, and Sara Reitmeyer, IT manager, resigned in April. We wish them both well in the future, but we will miss them as part of the library staff. Sandy is volunteering for the library a few hours each week, and Sara has promised to carry on with her Friends of the Library office and duties, so at least we will still see them once in a while. The librarys current Strategic Plan ends at the end of 2015, so the library board will be preparing a new plan for the library. We hope to have a plan that is based on community needs and focused on how library services can help to meet those needs. We are in the process of hiring a consultant to help with the planning process. Stay tuned for more information on the exciting new plan. We hope to have focus groups with staff, the board, and community members. The Indiana State Board of Accounts audited the librarys finances for the years of 2011-2014. We received a good report with no problems. Circulation of library materials continues to increase over last years numbers. The librarys new community room is getting a lot of use. If you would like more information on using this room, please contact the library at 317-896-9391. The library also launched a new website this spring. We hope the new look and user friendliness will enhance our patrons library experience. Visit us at wwpl.lib.in.us if you havent already.

The Friends of the Westfield Library is an organization designed to promote and
support the mission of the Westfield Washington Public
Library. Through its fundraising efforts, primarily book sales held in the library and online, the group raises money used to fund library programs and to purchase
items that are not in the library's operating budget.

The Westfield Washington Public Library will strive,
in partnership with organizations, to provide quality
services, materials and facilities that fulfill the educational,
informational, technological, cultural and recreational
needs of the entire community.
Where do your membership dollars go? All of the Friends of the Westfield Library board members are unpaid volunteers, so only a fraction of the money we collect is used for overhead. Of course there are some operational supplies that we can't go without, but most of the FOWL income goes directly toward forwarding our mission. We work out of the library, which allows us to put more back into the library. For instance, we're planning to buy all new radio controlled atomic clocks for the building. While a clock here and there doesn't cost that much individually, buying one for over a dozen walls that until recently didn't exist, adds up! So, if you want to ensure that your money is going right back to benefit the community, join the Friends of the Westfield Library today!
