PRESCHOOL EARLY LEARNING PROGRAMPreschool is an exciting time as children embark on new adventures in theworld of learning. At the Y, we regard each child as a unique individual whoneeds to be understood, guided, encouraged and appreciated. Y programsencourage children to explore their creativity through multi-sensoryexperiences and create a language-rich environment to promote and fostera love of reading. Let's Explore (includes a catered snack) This class offers socializationactivities to satisfy curiosity and assists in developing fine motor skills.Emphasis is placed on the child's method of discovery, not on the end result.

Fab 4's (includes Spanish once a week and a catered snack) This class isdesigned to offer opportunities to develop skills in listening, followingdirections and participating in group activities. Further development of finemotor skills, as well as activities that stimulate education through exciting,age-appropriate activities are included. This class is offered for childrenthat are potty-trained and ages 3 1/2 and 4.

Pre-K Half Day or Full Day (includes swim lesson and Spanish once a week,a catered snack for Half Day or a catered lunch for Full Day) This curriculumis designed to emphasize specific school-readiness skills. There are manyopportunities for individual growth in all areas of development. Conferencesand developmental reports are included to increase preparedness forKindergarten. There will be a 45-minute swim lesson included once a week,as well as weekly Spanish and computer tablets.

Tot Time This class offers opportunities for social engagement, time toencourage curiosity and assistance in developing fine and large motor skillsin a fun, caring preschool environment. Emphasis is placed on the child'smethod of discovery, not on the end result. There will be daily gym time oroutdoor play. This class is for children entering kindergarten in September2019. Children do not need to be potty-trained to attend, but parents mustbe available to return to change soiled diapers should the need arise.

Preschool Fabulous 3's & 4's In this class, children are exposed tohands-on learning, age-appropriate literacy, daily circle activities and dailyoutdoor or gym time. This class also includes further practice of fine andlarge motor skills as well as time to develop social and emotional skills.Children must be entering kindergarten in September 2018 to participate inthis class. Potty training is preferred but not required.

Pre-Kindergarten The curriculum emphasizes specific school-readinessskills. There are many opportunities for individual development in allareas of learning. We maintain a play-based, hands-on learningenvironment that allows for creative and engaging scholastic growth.There will be a monthly pool time and weekly Spanish lessons. Childrenmust be entering kindergarten in the fall of 2017 or have a birthdatebefore September 1, 2012.

Getting Messy Hey, moms and dads! If you aren't a fan of cleaning up aftermessy projects, let your child do them with us! We'll have fun making a messand getting dirty while we make our own play dough, play with finger paints,try different art techniques and lots more. We provide the materials, andbest of all, we clean up the BIG mess. Don't miss out. Your child is sure tohave fun!

Gizmos and Gadgets Children love experiments that ooze, drip, bubble orbounce! Kids are active participants in the mess and fun. This class will bea BLAST and everyone will participate in hands-on experiments to see whysimple things mix and work.

Little Chefs Each week your child will learn healthy eating habitsby creating a nutritional snack with their own hands and safe, plasticcooking utensils.

Cooking Fun This special "no bake" class will show kids the basics ofcooking. Each day they will learn different skills and techniques to keep theirpassion for cookinf growing.

PARENTS NIGHT OUTLooking to have a special night out with your spouse or friends withoutthe guilt? The Y offers Parents Night Out each month to help you get thespecial time you need while your child has a great time playing and meetingnew friends.

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONSPrivate lessons are the perfect answer for the participant who cannot makeour scheduled group lessons or need a little extra attention. The benefits ofa private swim lesson are that they're scheduled around your schedule, andthat you can focus your lesson on what you want to learn: to dive, to swim,to complete a triathlon! To request a private lesson, please complete theonline request form available on our website.

Private Swim Lessons: Available for participants ages 3 and up. These30-minute, 1-on-1 lessons are offered in packages of 4, 8 or 12 lessons.

Semi-Private Swim Lessons: Are available for participants ages 3 andup. These 30-minute, 1-on-1 lessons are offered in packages of 4, 8 or 12lessons. Both participants must be at similar age and ability levels. Note:Both participants must be members to receive the member rate.

Adaptive Private Swim Lessons: These 30-minute lessons are available toparticipants ages 3 and up with special needs. In order to sign up for theselessons, you'll need to get approval from a director. Approval is given basedon each child's specific needs. Included are skills of the YMCA preschool andyouth swim programs modified to fit each participant's individual abilities.

GROUP PARENT/CHILD SWIM LESSONS(6 MONTHS TO 3 YEARS)Our parent/child swim lessons promote water enrichment and aquatic-readiness activities for children and their parents or other trusted adults.In this program, the developmental experiences of each child are usedto build the child's self-confidence in and out of the water. Parents learnfrom the instructor's example how to guide their children through positivereinforcement and appropriate praise.

There are four levels based on developmental abilities:• Shrimp (6-8 months) Child can control their head and sit with support

from the hands.

• Kipper (9-12 months) Child can sit without hand support and stand withsupport from the hands.

• Inia (13-18 months) Child can stand without support and walk with orwithout support or aid.

• Perch (19-36 months) Child can run and jump.

Instructors are certified in the YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Program.

AQUATICS FAQsFree Swim Evaluations! Is this your first time in our swim lesson program?Do you need to know what class your child belongs in? We offer FREEevaluations for children age 3 and older to ensure your child is enrolled inthe right class. Contact Fry or Kroehler to set up your evaluation!

Make-Ups One make-up per participant per session will be allowed, ifthere is space in an appropriate class. Make-ups for missed classes must becompleted before the end of the session and pre-scheduled with a director.Refunds and credits will not be issued for missed classes. Please email withmake-up request.

Cancellation and Refunds Refunds must be requested in writing to thedirector prior to the start of the class for a full refund. Partial refunds maybe granted once a class has begun at the director's discretion.

GROUP PRESCHOOLSWIM LESSONS (AGES 3-5)These programs offer children their first experience in the waterwithout a parent. Children are taught basic skills that are the buildingblocks of swimming, including water propulsion, floating, body awarenessand independence. They are also taught some general aquatic safety andpool games. Children will be taught with and without the use of variousinstructional flotation devices. Classes maybe combined basedon enrollment.

Level 1: Pike with Parent - Is your child just not ready to be alone forswim lessons? This is a transitional class in which we will ease your childaway from Mom and Dad. The next level from here would be Pike. Your childmust be at least 3 years old at the start of the session.

Level 1: Pike (Beginner) - Swimmers should be able to listen toinstructions and follow directions. Swimmers will learn the basic paddlestroke on the front, back and sides. They will also be taught kicking skillsand putting their face in the water.

Level 2: Eel (Intermediate) - Swimmers will learn to jump in withoutassistance, float on their front and back with and without an IFD.Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and sides.Prerequisites: Swimmers should be able to float on front and backfor 20 seconds with an IFD, paddle on their front, back and sides for 10yards with an IFD and for 5 feet without.

Level 3: Ray (Advanced Intermediate) - Swimmers will learn to jump inwithout assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with orwithout an IFD. Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and sidesfor 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter thislevel, swimmers should be able to jump in without assistance, float on theirfront and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers should alsobe able to paddle on front, back and sides for 25 yards with an IFD and for15 feet without.

Level 4: Starfish (Advanced) - Swimmers will learn to do a standing dive,basic front crawl, rotary breathing for 25 yards, basic breaststroke for 25yards, backstroke for 25 yards, elementary backstroke for 25 yards, basicsidestroke for 25 yards and tread water for 1 minute. PORPOISE SUMMERSWIM TEAM (AGES 5-18)The YMCA offers two options for summer swim team:

Porpoise Summer Swim Conference Swim Team (Ages 5-18)

Join us for a fun swim season as we compete with other Naperville teams asa part of the Naperville Swim Conference. This is a great way to introduceyour child(ren) to the world of competitive aquatics. Swimmers must bemembers of the Naperville YMCA. New swimmers will need to demonstratetheir swimming skills and then will be assigned a specific practice groupbased on ability. The Porpoise Summer Swim Team will swim at the KroehlerFamily YMCA indoor pool. We will compete against the same subdivisionpools as in the past years. Being at an indoor facility has its benefits, suchas no weather issues to deal with during practices and a consistent pooltemperature. We now offer a choice of morning, afternoon or eveningpractices to fit your scheduling needs.

Porpoise Summer Long Course Swim Team (Ages 6-18)

Between 3 and 5 long course meets willbe offered for the summer season. Fees are required for long course meets,and USA Swim Team membership is an additional $60 fee.

PORPOISE FALL SWIM TEAM CLINIC(AGES 5-18)Is your child planning on swimming on a fall swim team? This program offerspre-season conditioning for fall swim teams. Clinics are run by our certifiedcoaching staff. Swimmers are grouped based on ability level. Times areavailable on the website or at the Kroehler or Fry Family YMCAs."

Clinics run for 3 weeks. Sign-up is "a la carte," so you only pay forthe weeks you chose. Sign up for 1 week, 2 weeks or all 3 weeksdepending on your schedule.

Little Sports Adult participation is encouraged! This class is a mixtureof activities and games to help children develop age appropriate physicalskills. Litle biys and girls will have a fun experience while learning aboutdifferent sports.

Pee Wee Basketball This class is designed to build fundamental skills suchas shooting, dribbling and passing. Classes focus on hand-eye coordinationand introduce the ideas of sportsmanship and team play. There will be ashort scrimmage at the end of each class. Players should wear tennis shoesto class.

Pee Wee Soccer This class is designed to introduce preschoolers tothe very exciting game of soccer through games and exercises such astrapping, dribbling, passing and shooting. As the session progresses, therewill be a brief scrimmage at the end of class. Players should wear tennisshoes to class.

Tae kwon do Students gain a strong foundation in this ancient art ofself-defense. Tae kwon do develops discipline, concentration, confidenceand leadership, while improving flexibility, speed, strength and stamina.Family participation in classes is encouraged. Uniforms are not required forstudents with no belt or a white belt, but are required for belt testing andfor participation at the yellow and higher belt levels. Teammates Children will develop physical skills in a fun-filled class. Eachclass introduces kids to a variety of basic skills and equipment featuring asampling of sports such as basketball, baseball, soccer, football and floorhockey. Acrylic Painting This class will introduce simple techniques of acrylicpainting through fun projects. The projects will include basic color theoryand the instructor will show step-by-step techniques and demonstrations.

Basic Drawing In this workshop, we will make a 3-dimensional project withall sorts of objects while using clay, sand and paper-mache.

PARTY RENTALSParty RentalsThe Y has many fun party themes to choose from, including swimming in thepool! These parties are led by a host/hostess and include pizza, pop andpaper goods. You are welcome to bring your own cake. We also have Do-it-Yourself Parties where we provide the space, you provide everything else!So leave the worry, preparation and clean-up to us! Parties are for 2 hours,and will accommodate up to 12 guests. There is an extra charge for 13-20guests. A signed rental agreement with a deposit is required to hold yourtime. PRIVATE SWIM LESSONSPrivate lessons are the perfect answer for the participant who can't makeour scheduled group lessons or need a little extra attention. The benefits ofa private swim lesson are that they are scheduled around your schedule, andyou can focus your lesson on what you want to learn: to dive, to swim, tocomplete a triathlon! Private Swim Lessons: Are available for participants ages 3 and up. These30-minute, 1-on-1 lessons are offered in packages of 4, 8 or 12 lessons.

GROUP YOUTHSWIM LESSONS (AGES 6-12)This program follows the YMCA of the USA's guidelines for swim lessons.There is a focus on five main points: personal growth, personal safety,stroke development, water sports and games, and rescue. Classes maybecombined based on enrollment.

Level 1: Polliwog - This is the beginning level for school age children andis appropriate for anyone new to the water or with little formal instruction.Children will learn the basic paddle stroke on their front, back and sides,kicking skills and will become comfortable putting their face in the water.

Level 2: Guppy - In this class swimmers will learn to front and back floatfor 1 minute, front alternating paddle, front symmetrical paddle, backsymmetrical paddle, back alternating paddle, side alternating paddle for25 yards and kneeling dive. Prerequisites: To enter this level, childrenshould be able to front and back float for 30 seconds with or without anIFD, paddle 25 yards on their front, back and side with an IFD, and for 15feet without an IFD, jump in without assistance and be comfortable indeep water.

Level 3: Minnow - In this class swimmers will learn to do a standingdive, basic front crawl, rotary breathing, basic breaststroke, backstroke,elementary backstroke, basic sidestroke for 25 yards and tread water for 1minute. FRY SWIM LEAGUE (AGES 7-14)This new program is designed for advanced swimmers ready for something more than swim lessons, but not ready to commit to a year-round team. TheFry Swim League provides a team-like training atmosphere for participants to refine competitive swim strokes and build endurance. With a focus oncompetitive racing skills, swimmers will learn racing strategies, diving skills and use of the pace clock. Swimmers are broken into groups based on age andall participants are encouraged to join us for a mini meet at the end of each session. This class will take place at least two times per week, make-ups will be very limited. Program launched in January 2016 and follow the Winter, Spring I, Spring II sessions.

Prerequisite: Students must have passed the Shark level, or be evaluated by staff prior to registration.

Uniforms are not required forstudents with no belt or a white belt, but are required for belt testing andfor participation at the yellow and higher belt levels. Make-Ups One make-up per participant per session will be allowed, ifthere is space in an appropriate class. Make-ups for missed classes must becompleted before the end of the session and pre-scheduled with a director.Refunds and credits will not be issued for missed classes. PRIVATE SWIM LESSONSPrivate lessons are the perfect answer for the participant who can't makeour scheduled group lessons or need a little extra attention. The benefits ofa private swim lesson are that they are scheduled around your schedule, andyou can focus your lesson on what you want to learn: to dive, to swim, tocomplete a triathlon! To request a private lesson, please complete the onlinerequest form available on our website.

Private Swim Lessons: Are available for participants ages 3 and up. These30-minute, 1-on-1 lessons are offered in packages of 4, 8 or 12 lessons.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING (AGES 15 & UP)Red Cross Lifeguard TrainingLearn the skills and knowledge required to become a lifeguard, including howto recognize, prevent and respond quickly to aquatic emergencies. LearnCPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Oxygen Administration and FirstAid. Participants will receive certifications after attending all class sessions,passing all written exams, water skills and tests. Red Cross Lifeguard RecertificationThe American Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification course will be offeredto anyone who has a current Red Cross Lifeguarding certification. Proof ofcurrent certification is required to participate. If a participant passes theaquatic portion of the recertification (including the prerequisite skills), he/she will then be given the opportunity to complete the classroom portionand written test of the program. The written test must be passed with atleast 80% accuracy. See pool prerequisites for this class below.

Prerequisites for Red Cross Lifeguard Classes: Participants must beage 15 or older by the first day of the class, and be able to complete allprerequisites: swim 300 yards using front crawl with rhythmic breathing andalso use the breast stroke without stopping, along with a timed, 20-yardswim using either stroke, perform a surface dive and retrieve a 10-poundbrick in 10 feet of water and then return the brick 20 yards, and treadwater for 2 minutes with hands out of the water. AQUATICS FAQsFree Swim Evaluations! Is this your first time in our lesson program?Do you need to know what class your child belongs in? We offer FREEevaluations for children age 3 and older to ensure your child is enrolled inthe right class. Contact Fry or Kroehler to set up your evaluation!

Make-Ups One make-up per participant per session will be allowed, ifthere is space in an appropriate class. PRIVATE SWIM LESSONSPrivate lessons are the perfect answer for the participant who can't makeour scheduled group lessons or need a little extra attention. The benefits ofa private swim lesson are that they are scheduled around your schedule, andyou can focus your lesson on what you want to learn: to dive, to swim, tocomplete a triathlon! To request a private lesson, please complete the onlinerequest form available on our website.

Private Swim Lessons: Are available for participants ages 3 and up. These30-minute, 1-on-1 lessons are offered in packages of 4, 8 or 12 lessons.

Fluid RunningDeep-water running classes that provide all the benefits of running on landand more, without any impact. It's a phenomenal full-body workout! There isa fee for this class and registration is required!

• Improveing strength and speed
