Summer 2016 Newsletter

Dear Customer,

An overused saying I know...but where IS the time going this year?! Since the business ownership transfer in March, I am delighted to report that all is going well, business remains buoyant & all is going to plan.

We are continuing to view the market positively, despite potential Brexit woes landing on the desk by way of numerous currency exchange surcharges. Investment in the business continues by way of new kit, transport, new product development, new staff, new definitive collection web-site and a hugely exciting soon to be launched Keep Warm-Stay Secure -consumer web-site!

The points above are all active business agenda points being worked through everyday we are open for business! We are taking nothing for-granted and we are all doing our best to be the best we can be in the interest of improving your customer experience with Team SWC.

Throughout the newsletter you will find really good updates on a variety of topics that we felt would be helpful for you to know about. We've also attached some good reference information (also available through the web-site).

The all new Definitive Collection Website

Websites & Web presence through social media are an essential part of modern day living, having a strong and professional image is critical to famous brands and the Definitive Collection is no different. We are very pleased to confirm that the all new Definitive Collection website will go live in August 2016. The website has been completely re-built and will sit firmly at the top as a leading brand in the double glazing industry.

As you will be aware, The Definitive Collection brand is growing in popularity especially through its presence on the Internet. These days, nobody can ignore how easy it is to browse at ones leisure for ideas and information using smart phones, tablets and laptops. Although many companies these days have websites, they can sometimes look uninviting and dated, unprofessional, limited in content, and difficult to navigate, all of which can be a turn-off to prospective buyers.

A good website is designed to capture the attention and imagination while creating the desire for further information. We feel all these features have been incorporated into the new Definitive Collection website. Websites must also be inviting, informative and leave a positive impression on any potential customer. To date SWC has invested tens of thousands of pounds to create a strong consumer brand and in The Definitive Collection website we are committed to expanding this further with more information and imagery which are key selling tools. The majority of home-owners now go on-line to explore the options available to them, before making an informed decision.

The new website will clearly state that The Definitive Collection products are only available through approved trade installers.

Trade Web-site

You may have noticed that we refer to the website quite frequently as an archive and valuable source of technical information relating to our comprehensive product range Please remember that we are constantly updating the SWC website with sales and marketing information and technical downloads to assist with the launch of new products.

Composite Doors

Although our Composite Door department has never been as busy, we acknowledge that a full overhaul of the product range is long overdue. We are pleased to announce that we are very near the finish line having conducted a full review of the market place and the choices on offer. We are confident that the new range will be appealing, contemporary and of course competitively priced. We aim to have this fully launched by the end of September. The new range which will still be under the heading of The Definitive Collection and will include:

● More Door Designs● New Glass Designs● More Coloured slab examples● Stainless Steel Bar Handles and furniture

Composite Door Maintenance

Collectively the double glazing industry offers a 10 – year guarantee on most products including Composite Doors. In order for the 10-year guarantee to be validated, the home-owner must be given instructions on how to use and maintain their new door(s).

To assist, we are now sending out a Customer Care & Maintenance leaflet with every Composite door that explains what the home-owner needs to do to maintain their new door(s). This simple and easy to follow leaflet must be shown and explained to the home-owner by one of your installers and should also be referred to on your invoice / guarantee.

The customer care and maintenance leaflet can be downloaded from the SWC website under the downloads section – technical – composite doors.

Please see Composite Door Maintenance document attached.

* Please note as per our previous communication the Throxenby and Sherburn Composite Door styles are now discontinued due to their unavailability.

Maintenance Guide for Foiled Windows

The increased demand for foiled windows has been highly publicised with Veka claiming over 27% of all profile sales are now foiled. With all products the correct general maintenance is extremely important which is why Renolit have sent out a national mail-shot to remind everyone about how their foils should be cleaned.

Renolit's easy-care foil surfaces do not require any special detergent, just soapy water and a sponge. Please see the attached images which indicates in Red 'Stop' do not use and Green 'Okay' for what should be used.

Lusso for Eurocell Conservatory Roofs

The Lusso is a 214mm internal PVCu soffit / pelmet (much the same as the K2 Capella) which creates the look of a faux orangery. Perimeter lighting can easily be housed within the Lusso option which can transform the mood on those cold winter nights. The Lusso is easy to install and transforms the look of a normal Conservatory. Although usually used with Edwardian style Roofs this intelligent solution can also be used Victorian and 'P' Shaped styles too.

Skypod Lantern Roofs

Since the introduction of this contemporary solution to a lantern style roofs, sales have quite literally rocketed. Anthracite grey both sides and anthracite grey on white being a very popular choice. Please be careful when constructing the roof opening, the dimensions can be either square or oblong, if they are oblong the width and length must differ by at least 130mm

Please remember, Skypods are measured to the external size of the up-stand as stated on the order forms.

Bi-folding doors & Eurocell Conservatory Roofs

If you installing a bi-folding door underneath the eaves-beam on a Conservatory Roof you should be using adequate support such as a bolster bar to stop any deflection impeding the operation of the Bi-fold. The Eurocell 70mm thermally broken aluminium bolster bar can be supplied by SWC and is generally fitted locally above & around the bi-folding door, giving structural support only where need, creating a 'goal post support system' (This will affect the sight lines as you are reducing the height of your bi-folding door by 70mm against the adjacent windows). This bolster bar comes in three colours to suit white, rosewood and light-oak finishes.

As a general rule of thumb do not exceed 3400mm on the width without speaking to our Conservatory Roof team first who will advise accordingly.

Please note that 500mm frames are required either side of the doors to support the roof

The Return of Celsius Glass

The Celsius Glass range has always been one of the industries leading high performance Conservatory Roof Glass options, and now it has reclaimed it's crown as the outright leader in class. The pace in which our industry is developing and changing is hard to keep up with as R&D departments continue to deliver innovation with product enhancements.

Celsius Elite and Celsius One remain the UK's best high performance glass, specifically designed for use in Conservatories and Orangeries – intended to help create truly 'all-year-round' spaces for home-owners. Celsius Clear, completes the Celsius range and remains the ideal choice for window glazing.

COMING IN SEPTEMBER

Blinds in Glass

The very definition of modern day living is - characteristic of the present “contemporary trends in design” which describes blinds in glass perfectly. There is a growing and significant demand for this product especially in bi-folding doors which are very popular with home-owners.

Blinds in glass are functional for light and privacy and require no cleaning as they are encapsulated within the cavity of the insulated glass unit. You can download a brochure and fact sheet on our website under downloads / brochures / integral blinds.

Advantage Glass is being discontinued

We have decided to withdraw Pilkington 'Advantage' glass from our range. The external surface coating on the glass is proving difficult to clean and this is also difficult to explain at point of sale. Although the Advantage option can improve energy performance this has proved to be a very low user and this coupled with mixed reactions from home-owners has concluded in SWC withdrawing this option from our range.

Page 7: Summer 2016 Newsletter - SWC Trade Frames · Conservatory Roofs If you installing a bi-folding door underneath the eaves-beam on a Conservatory Roof you should be using adequate support

To prolong the life of the door surface finish, it is recommended that the GRP composite door is cleaned regularly. This should be completed at least once per month but will depend upon the doors location and exposure to contaminants such as dirt and salt etc.

• It is recommended that the door is cleaned with specially formulated door wipes which are available from Distinction Door Solutions. Alternatively, the door surface can be washed with warm soapy water (washing up liquid is suitable) and wipe dry with a soft cloth.• When the door is closed always ensure top and bottom locking points are engaged to assist in the reduction of thermal movement.

Please note; It is recommended that fabricators pass this information to their customers. This is to ensure that they do not invalidate the warranty by the use of abrasive cleaners, prohibited chemicals or temporary adhesives on the surface of the door.

How toCustomer Care & Maintenance

Do Not; • Use aggressive cleaning methods, abrasive cleaners or scouring pads on the surface of the door.• Use high pressure of steam cleaners.• Use any type of bleach, solvent (eg white spirit, methylated spirit, cellulose thinners or acetone/nail varnish remover).• Use adhesives of any type or tack for providing temporary protection, for the temporary fixing of seasonal or other decorations etc.• Use excessive length key chains, please try and avoid contact with these and any other sharp objects you may be carrying.A repair system is available to deal with accidental damage such as dents or scratches. For details please contact Distinction Door Solutions.

Celsius Performance Glass utilises a Low-E and solar control combination coating, with an Argon filled cavity, to control the amount of visible light, UV and heat that pass through the glazed unit. Easy Clean technology has also been added to reduce maintenance requirements.

Celsius Glass improvement

The industry’s leading high performance window and roof glass just got better!

As part of our commitment to continual improvement, and to keep you at the forefront of innovation - we are pleased to introduce improvements to the formulations used in our Celsius One and Celsius Elite glass. Available as an option on our roofs as well as on made-to-measure glass sales, we’ve improved the amount of protection that these glass specifications give against unwanted solar heat build up, as well as cutting down on the glare within a conservatory.

Celsius Elite and Celsius One remain the UK’s best high performance glass, specifically designed for use in conservatories and orangeries - intended to help create truly ‘year-round’ spaces for people’s homes. Celsius Clear, completes the Celsius range and remains the ideal choice for window glazing.

Please be aware the new formulation of Celsius Elite and Celsius One has a slightly different tint to the old, so if ordering replacement units for an existing job, please make this clear on your order to ensure a perfect match.

All Celsius Elite and Celsius One orders delivered on or after Thursday 2nd June, 2016 will be the new improved formulation. The old formulation will only be available for remedial work from that date - please mark orders clearly if this is required.
