Summer 2016 Volume 10 – Issue 1 Anaheim – On Thursday, May 12, 2016, the National Hispanic Business Women Association (NHBWA) honored three exceptional and accomplished “Business Women of the Year” for their remarkable achievements and contributions to Orange County’s Communities during its 16 th Annual Awards and Scholarship Luncheon at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel. As of May 12, 2016, NHBWA has awarded 195 educational scholarships to deserving students. Stakeholder Reception on June 9, 2016.

Anaheim – On Thursday, June 9, 2016 Disneyland® Resort presented six nonprofit organizations dedicated to serving diverse students with funds supporting their scholarship efforts. National Hispanic Business Women Association (NHBWA) was one of the organizations awarded for their scholarship program in the past years. This year, Disneyland® Resort Diamond Celebration Diverse Stakeholder Reception was held at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. The reception culminated with a view of “World of Color” at Disneyland California Adventure Park. For the past years, Disneyland® Resort has been a continuous supporter of NHBWA’s scholarship program. As of May 12, 2016, NHBWA has awarded 195 educational scholarships to deserving students. NHBWA appreciates Disneyland® Resort for their continuous support towards our scholarship program!

Scholarship Spotlight:

Thanks to Disneyland® Resort’s generous support of $5000 Dollars for 2016 NHBWA’s Scholarship Fund, five of the eighteen NHBWA Scholarship recipients were awarded each $1000 to the college/university of their choice at the Annual Awards luncheon on May 12, 2016. Listed below are the selected five students:

VALERIA CORTEZ Miss Cortez, a resident of Santa Ana, is attending Santa Ana College. She is majoring in Aerospace Engineer and has a GPA of 3.94. She helps with family needs caring for two siblings after school and works on weekends with her mom, a single parent, working two jobs. Valeria is also a Santa Ana High School alumnus.

ALEJANDRA DOMINGUEZ Miss Dominguez, a resident of Santa Ana, is attending the University of California, San Diego. Her GPA is 3.0 and is majoring in Pharmacological Chemistry. She is an alumnus of Valley High School and her goal is to become a Pharmacist. She has strong beliefs in volunteering at her former high school and to promote higher education to students. She is the first in her family to go to college.

YOSELINDA MENDOZA Miss Mendoza is a Santa Ana resident attending Cornell University in the fall. She is enrolled in the Ph.D. program and will major in Sociology. She comes from a family of eleven and is a graduate of Century High School, Santa Ana College, and the University of California, Irvine. Her current GPA is 3.88 and is highly recommended because of her strength in her character and determination for a higher education.

YARITZA MUNOZ Miss Munoz is a Santa Ana resident attending Santa Ana College. She is studying to be a Psychologist and major in Social Behavior. She has a GPA 3.38 and would be the first in her family to attend college. She hopes to be an elementary school child psychologist and her future goal is to someday obtain a Ph.D.

SAUL NOLASCO Mr. Nolasco is a Los Angeles resident attending the University of California, Santa Barbara. He has a GPA 3.91 and is pursuing a degree in Psychology and a minor in Education. He comes from a family of three and has a strong commitment in helping others. He and his little sister are being raised by their mom and helps out when he can by caring for her. He also works countless volunteer hours in his community working with special education kids.
