Greetings to everyone. It is a joy and privilege to be
chatting with you for the first time as your GFWC of MO
President. I am certainly looking forward to working
and visiting with you over the next two years. Your
excitement and dedication in your GFWC endeavors is
truly inspiring and I am honored to be a part of this
wonderful organization!
Having just returned from another fabulous GFWC
International Convention, I can say with all certainty
that if you were not able to come to the last two
conventions (the GFWC MO convention in May and the
GFWC International convention last week in Baltimore)
you have missed some really valuable information:
If the cut tulips you have in a vase of water
are drooping, put a teaspoon or tablespoon
of vodka in a glass of water and let the
tulips sit in it overnight. By morning they
will have straightened right up. Change the
water to fresh water and the tulips will be
lovely and stand tall for several days.
Knowledge gained at our May convention.
All the convention goers in Baltimore really
enjoyed our speaker whose granddaughter
claimed in her kindergarten show-and-tell
class, “My grandma is a hooker and a
bookie.” Come to Summer Conference to
get all the details!
Everyone was told, “You can dream with
your eyes wide open.”
There is a 78% chance your youngster will
graduate high school reading at over a 5th
grade level if she reads to an adult on a
regular basis.
One never knows what tidbits of valuable information
can be gained by attending GFWC conventions,
meetings, and events. So, mark your calendars now for
August 7 – 9, to attend the GFWC of MO Summer
Conference at Tan-Tar-A. The staff at Tan-Tar-A is
waiting for you to register for a room at $95 per night.

Just wait till you hear all the latest buzz…
The Call to Conference is coming out later than usual
this year, so you will need to call quickly to get your
reservations in on time.
Meanwhile, the GFWC of MO Officers and Chairmen are
busy preparing loads of information for you to take back
to your clubs. We’ll have helpful tips for district and
club officers to help them with their positions. We’ll
have handouts from many of our GFWC partners. We’ll
hear and discuss the latest new items and changes at
GFWC Headquarters. We’ve also prepared several
ways to help presidents do their reporting.
In addition to the items our new Conservation Chairman
has told you to collect for recycling, we are adding a
request for your old, broken, or unwanted jewelry.
Monarch Jewelry in St. Louis has a unique way to raise
funds to aid unfortunate young women who have been
caught up in the sex trafficking trade and are wanting
out. We’ll give you that information as well at Summer
Conference. This is an easy way to help these young
women and clean out the unwanted jewelry in our
jewelry cases.
Come one; come all to Summer Conference. Those of
us who attended the convention in Baltimore are just
bubbling over with excitement about all the happenings
and we just h-a-a-a-a-ve to tell someone!
President Jan
Keep these dates available.
You don’t want to miss anything!!

GFWC Missouri Convention Recap and Thank You’s
Thank you to all who attended the state convention at the Capital Plaza in Jefferson City May 11-14 and stirred up the ingredients listed below for a blue-ribbon recipe:
Congratulations to the GFWC Art & Literature Club of Parkville: This club won first place in the state for their two-year Community Improvement Project. For this honor, they will receive a $50 check from headquarters. I apologize that this award was not announced in Jefferson City.
Amid the speakers and award presentations, we enjoyed doing the “Chicken Dance.”
Thank you: Thank you all for a memorable two years as your state president and to my dedicated state officers and state chairmen who worked so hard over the past two years. I appreciated very much your donation to Missouri Girls Town in my honor as well as the monetary gift by the Board of Directors. I treasure the new friendships created across the state during my presidential journey. Thank you also for the difference you make in others’ lives on a daily basis with your amazing club projects. GFWC Missouri members clearly have been and will continue to “Stand Tall for GFWC, Our Communities, Our World.” Best wishes to our new officers on their 2016-2018 journey. They will do a fantastic job. Kathy Palermo, GFWC Missouri Outgoing State President

I have the following dates in my datebook for District
Fall Conventions:
Friday, September 9 – 2nd District
Saturday, September 10 – 1st District
Saturday, September 17 – 3rd District
(or Saturday, October 22)
Friday, October 7 – 7th District
Saturday, October 8 – 6th District
Saturday, October 15 – 9th District
Thursday, October 20 – 8th District
Saturday, October 29 – 4th District
Thank you so much to those districts who scheduled
your conventions back to back (Friday/Saturday) to
save this officer and Dr. Susan Gettys from having to
make several long trips instead of one long one each
weekend. It also allows us to enjoy our fall weekends
by being on the road only four or five weekends instead
of nine.
Please let me know if I have saved the correct date for
your convention; and if you do not see your district
listed, please let me know the date you have selected
for your convention.
President Jan
Thank you so very much to all of my wonderful GFWC Sisters who donated to the love
offering for me at state convention in May. Your kindness touched my heart and I was so
honored to be able to represent you at the GFWC International Convention held in Baltimore
as your Jenny June winner for 2016.
With heartfelt thanks,
Janice Carter

Spring R.A.P. Luncheon Recap Sharon Anderson GFWC of Missouri was once again standing tall at the Reading Awards Program (RAP) luncheon at Missouri Girls Town on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. Nineteen girls were recognized for reading more than 750 books! Due to the generosity of GFWC of Missouri women, the girls collectively received over $300 in Walmart gift certificates and over 100 items from our awards table. A celebratory pizza luncheon was enjoyed by all. Pictured below is our guest speaker, Washington University School of Law student Alexandra Hemphill, standing by the well-stocked awards table. Ms. Hemphill shared how she overcame a reading deficit with hard work. Her efforts have paid off with a tremendously successful academic career. She encouraged the girls to read all types of literature. She also emphasized the critical role reading plays in their education.
Please remember RAP depends on your continued support. You may donate Walmart cards and gift table items directly. For tax deductible gifts, please write your check to the GFWC of Missouri Charity and Education Fund with RAP written on the memo line. These checks need to be mailed to our state treasurer. RAP appreciates and depends on your support!
REMINDER: Districts to Bring “Made in Missouri” Items to State Workshop
During the MVR Conference in Excelsior Springs, a Missouri Night themed banquet will be held on Friday,
September 23rd.
The MVR decorating committee is requesting each district president solicit (15) fifteen “Made in Missouri”
items from their clubs. The items will be arranged on the tables as decorations for the evening. Following the
banquet, an item will be given to each person in attendance as a gift to take home.
The items should be a value of ($5) five to ($10) ten dollars each and come from their districts, if possible.
They can be the same item or a variety of products. Examples of products: St. James wine, Osceola cheese,
Trenton popcorn, Hamilton honey, Jamesport decorative soap, Hannibal pottery, etc. Please indicate on each
item from what town the item is produced.
Unless the items are perishable, bring the items to the Summer Workshop Conference in August. If perishable,
bring the items to the MVR Conference and give to Chairman Claudia Powell before the banquet. Your
assistance is invaluable in making Missouri Night a success.
Thank you! --- Decoration Chairman Claudia Powell, [email protected], 660-248-2625

CLUB DUES TO NEW TREASURER – DONNA CALVIN
The biggest task for the State Treasurer is collecting club dues. That becomes less of an effort when the dues arrive in a timely manner. Remember that your district receives 35 cents from each member's dues if the club sends those dues in time to reach the State Treasurer by December 31. Your club can also receive honor roll points for paying dues by November 1. Donna Calvin is our new Treasurer, and her address is on the dues page of the 2016-2018 GFWC of Missouri yearbook. That's not a typo -- she does live in Leawood, Kansas. Though Donna has always lived in Kansas, she belongs to a Missouri club and has been an active GFWC of Missouri member since 1978.
Money, Money, Money… Money!
