The new garage serves parking patrons including resi- dents, Metra commuters, businesses, visitors to Glen Ellyn, as well as Civic Center employees.
“The new parking garage is a major infrastructure investment to support the continued economic growth of downtown Glen Ellyn and the many small businesses who drive it,” said Village President Mark Senak. “The garage provides a safe, accessible and convenient way to park when visiting our downtown.”
The parking garage was approved by the Village Board in January 2020 and broke ground in August 2020. As a landmarked prop- erty, the garage was designed to complement the historic architecture style of the Civic Center through the use of similar building materials and design features.
Also open on May 1 was the pedway and plaza which creates a pedestrian connection from the parking garage to Main Street and Duane Street. To make way for this important improvement to the Central Business District (CBD), the Village purchased and subsequently demolished the buildings located at 423 N. Main Street. This demolition allowed for the creation of a public space to serve as a connection point to provide better access for customers and employees between the public parking garage and businesses in the downtown. The new pedway and plaza area provides opportunities for multiple outdoor dining areas, public artwork, seat wall planter boxes and decorative lighting.
Downtown Civic Center Parking Garage and Pedway Now Open
The new downtown Glen Ellyn parking garage, located directly behind the Civic Center at 535 Duane Street, opened to the public on May 1,
2021. The new garage, accessible from Duane Street, features 277 stalls within five tiers of parking, one of which is underground. In addition to the garage, a row of ten surface parking stalls line the west side of the driveway from Duane Street. The garage features an elevator, four electric vehicle charging spots and LED lighting. It has 10 emergency call boxes, and a host of new security cameras.

3rd and 4th Floor: Designated permit parking for commuters and downtown employees.
Free public parking is available throughout the garage on two floors with additional free public parking after 3 p.m. daily and on weekends. Please note that there is no parking 2 – 6 a.m., except by overnight permit.

Village Trustee Gary Fasules Gary Fasules was elected as Village Trustee in 2021. In addition to his current term, Trustee Fasules served previ- ously as Trustee from 2017- 2021 and in the 1990’s. He also led the Village Board as Acting Village President be- ginning in January 2021 for a four month span. He previously served as a member of the Village’s Plan Commission and Zon- ing Board of Appeals. Trustee Fasules has served on various community committees throughout his life, including District 41, District 87 and the Chamber of Commerce. Professionally, Trustee Fasules is a Global Sales Executive with expertise in solving complex cross functional sales issues. He currently works for School Specialty. Trustee Fasules is a lifelong resident of Glen Ellyn where he lives with his wife and two children.
Village Trustee Anne Gould Anne Gould has been a resi- dent of Glen Ellyn for over 21 years with her husband John and son and daughter. Anne was in financial services for 16 years, most recently as Principal Systems Analyst at Fidelity Employer Services Company. Trustee Gould is a graduate of Providence College, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Fordham University. She previously served as a volunteer and School Board member for St. Petronille School. Additionally, she was a member of the Catholic Council of Women and Junior High Youth Ministry volunteer with St. Petronille Church, and was a co-leader of the Glen Ellyn/Wheaton Crop Walk.
Village President Mark Senak Mark Senak was elected as Village President in 2021. Prior to his role as President, he was a two- term Village Trustee serving from 2015 – 2019, and from 2019 until his election to President. Additionally, he previously served as a member of the Village’s Architectural Review Commis- sion from 2013-2015. President Senak has been a resident of Glen Ellyn for over 26 years with his wife Laura and three children.
For the past 13 years, he has been a Partner with the law firm Senak Keegan Gleason & Smith, Ltd. President Senak represents the true meaning of “Village of Volunteers” in Glen Ellyn as he is an active volunteer in and around DuPage County. He is a member of the DuPage County
Emergency Response Team (CERT) and volunteers with DuPage County PADS. He is also a volunteer with the DuPage County Bar Association (DCBA), serving as a mentor in the Lawyer-to-Lawyer Mentoring program and as a judge for the DCBA’s High School Mock Trial Competition. President Senak holds a Juris Doctor degree from DePaul College of Law and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and Psychology from Indiana University.
Village Honors Outgoing Board Members and Swears in President, Trustees and Clerk At the Village Board meeting on Monday, May 10, Village President Mark Senak, along with new Trustees Kelley Kalinich and Anne Gould and returning Trustee Gary Fasules were sworn into office for a four-year term. Also sworn in was the new Village Clerk, Caren Cosby.
The Village Board and staff also bid farewell to departing Village Trustees Bill Enright and Craig Pryde, along with Village Clerk John Chereskin. They were recognized and thanked for their count- less hours of volunteerism given to the community.

Village Trustee Kelley Kalinich Dr. Kelley Kalinich is a retired Superintendent of Schools from Kenilworth School District No. 38. She served 33 years as a full- time educator in capacities including Superintendent, Principal, Assistant Princi- pal, Counselor and Teacher. She also currently serves on the Glen Ellyn Library Foundation Board and mentor to the Principal at Providence Englewood Charter School, having previously served as a Board Member. Trustee Kalinich holds a Doctorate in Education from Vanderbilt University, a Master’s in Education from Georgia State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the Uni- versity of Vermont. Trustee Kalinich is a lifelong resident of Glen Ellyn and graduate of Glenbard West High School. She lives in town with her two sons.
Village Trustee Bill Payne Bill Payne was appointed as Village Trustee in June 2021. Trustee Payne has been a resident of Glen El- lyn for over 32 years with his wife Nancy and three adult children. He currently serves as the Executive Director of Science and Technol- ogy at the University of Chicago. Prior to his current role, he was the Chief Operating Officer at Roberson and Associates Consulting, and Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Motorola/Nokia. He also founded a telecom- munications startup company. Trustee Payne received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. He cur- rently serves on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Science and Technology Coalition, as well as on the Executive Advisory Board for Purdue University’s Electrical and Computer Engineering De- partment.
Village Clerk Caren Cosby Caren Cosby has worked as a Video and Live Events Producer and Writer, as well as Manager of Teleprompting Services, for Camera Originals for over 20 years. She graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in Journalism and prior to that earned an Associate in Arts degree from College of DuPage. She is a current member of Illinois Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 1220.
Clerk Cosby has been a resident of Glen Ellyn for 28 years along with her husband, Dave and daughter, Courtney.
Tea With the Trustees Glen Ellyn residents and business owners can meet with their Village leaders during Tea with the Trustees, a new event that is free and open to the public. This informal setting offers the opportunity to ask questions, share concerns, and hear about what is happening in Glen Ellyn.
The next Tea with the Trustees event is scheduled for Saturday, July 24, to be held from 9-11 a.m. at the Police Station Community Room, 65 S. Park Boulevard.

Glen Ellyn is fortunate and excited to have The Cleve Carney Museum of Art and the McAninch Arts Center at the College of DuPage host one of the largest private collections of original artwork by Frida Kahlo. The exhibition, on view June 5 – September 6, 2021, will be the most comprehensive presentation of Kahlo’s work displayed in the Chicago area in over 40 years. Summer Events in Glen Ellyn Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois Plan, which went into effect June 11, marks the return of traditional conventions, festivals, and large events without capacity restrictions. The Village of Glen Ellyn, in conjunction with event coordinators, are anticipating wel- coming back larger-scale events this summer. This includes many of the annual events the community offers, hosted by the 4th of July Committee, the Chamber of Commerce, the Alliance of Downtown Glen Ellyn, among other local organizations. Please note that all events are subject to change per the guidelines set by the State’s Restore Illinois Plan.

Freedom 4-Mile Run
The Freedom Four will kick off at 7 a.m. “sharp” on Sunday, July 4, at Lake Ellyn Park. There will be wave starts every 15 minutes in groups of 100 runners. Pre-registration is required at www.FreedomFourRun. com and limited to 800 participants.
Jazz Up Glen Ellyn: Saturday, July 10, 4 p.m. Enjoy Jazz Up Glen Ellyn two ways this year! Tour of Lake Ellyn Bicycle Race: Saturday, July 17 Returning for its 5th year, the Tour of Lake Ellyn promises fast-paced cycling action around the beautiful Lake Ellyn course. The challenging venue features a round-about, multiple climbs, a thrilling hairpin, and a tight final turn to the finish line on Lenox. Be sure to bring your family, friends, and bikes to enjoy Lake Ellyn for a day of thrilling professional and amateur racing, food, beer garden, and the annual Family Fun Ride. The Taste of Glen Ellyn & Village Fair: August 11-15 This five-day event takes place in the heart of the downtown Glen Ellyn, north of the tracks in the Glen- wood/Crescent Parking lot. This annual event features a variety of live entertainment including nationally known performers and a community stage showcasing local youth groups. Enjoy all the event has to offer with festive foods, cold beverages, a craft festival, a business expo and carnival rides. Planning a Block Party Residents living in incorporated Glen Ellyn that are interested in hosting a block party in their neighborhood must complete a block party request form, found on the Village website at www.glenellyn.org/blockparty. The Village requires block party request forms be submitted at least two weeks prior to the proposed event.
In cooperation with the Village of Glen Ellyn, the Glen Ellyn Park District offers residents the opportunity to use a Block Party Wagon during block party events. The wagon con- tains 100 chairs, ten tables, a large outdoor grill, and a bean bag toss game. The Park District will drop off
the wagon prior to the event and pick it up afterward. The Block Party Wagon is available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information and reservations for the Block Party Wagon, please visit the Park District website at www.gepark.org, or call (630) 858-2462.
Police Department Reminds Residents to Lock Their Vehicles
The Glen Ellyn Police Department reminds you to stay vigilant now and throughout the year in locking vehicles to prevent burglary and theft.
Since the start of 2021, there have been 15 reported incidents of burglar- ies to motor vehicles and 11 reports of
motor vehicle theft to the Glen Ellyn Police Department.
Continue to take the following simple, proactive steps in safeguarding your property:
Develop a habit to lock your vehicles, regardless of the time of day.
Do not leave your keys or key fobs in your vehicle. Avoid leaving valuables in your vehicle. Secure brief-
cases, purses, electronics, etc. inside your home. If you park your vehicle(s) outside and unattended,
make sure to remove the garage door opener along with any property that may tempt thieves.
Do not leave items of value in plain view inside your vehicle.
Alerting Tool Offers Residents Opportunity to Receive Critical Emergency Information In 2020, the Village of Glen Ellyn launched a new notification tool to alert citizens about emergencies. This tool allows the Village to deliver essential information quickly in a variety of situations includ- ing severe weather alerts, emergency police notifications and emergency utility notifications.
All users have the ability to customize their notification preferences after signing up on the Village’s website directly at www.glenellyn.org/alert.
Emergency notifications and updates can be sent out via email and/or text mes- sages through the system. Additionally, each notification will be highly visible at the top of each Village webpage in the event of an emergency.

Be Prepared for Heavy Storms Since floods can happen fast, you should always be prepared. The following are some suggestions:
Keep storm sewer inlets and drainage ditches clear of debris, including leaves and grass clippings. Make sure your sump pump is working. Consider a battery backup unit. Monitor potential flood hazards on an All Hazards NOAA Weather Radio, local radio or television or on the internet at https://
www.spc.noaa.gov/products/wwa/. Copy your most important papers (mortgage papers, deeds, passport, bank and credit card information). Keep the copies in
your home and place the originals outside your home in a secure place like a safety deposit box. Go through your basement (if not your entire house) and take photos of your most valuable possessions (furniture, musical
instruments and electronic equipment). Store these photos with your other papers. Save and store receipts for any expensive household items, such as appliances and electronics so you have proof of their
original cost. Assess your flood risk and make sure you have adequate flood insurance coverage.
Flood plain and flooding questions? Glen Ellyn’s Community Development Department can help you determine whether your property is in the floodplain; if it contains floodways, wetland, or other environmentally sensitive areas; or if there are other known drainage problems The engineer in the Community Development Department can be reached by phone at (630) 547-5247. Copies of the Flood Insurance Rate Maps are available at the Civic Center and online at https://msc.fema.gov/portal/home. Additionally, the Community Development Depart- ment has some of the elevation certificates on file for buildings in the floodplain.
Flood insurance available for Glen Ellyn properties Most homeowners’ policies do not cover flood losses. Since Glen Ellyn participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), you can protect your home and contents by purchasing a flood insurance policy. You should obtain coverage for structure and contents since there can be more damage to the contents than the structure. Renters can also buy contents coverage even if the owner does not insure the structure. There is a 30-day waiting period before the policy becomes effective. To find out more about flood insurance, contact any licensed insurance agent or broker - the same person who sells your home and auto policies. You may be denied federal assistance after a disaster if you don’t have flood insurance.
A Preview of the New Downtown Streetscape is Coming Soon
A section of the new downtown Glen Ellyn streetscape is coming to the southeast corner of Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, in front of the A Toda Madre restaurant. Construction began in early May and is expected to be complete in late June 2021. Work will include storm sewer improve- ments along Pennsylvania Avenue and widening of the sidewalk to allow for outdoor dining. The new sidewalks will include decorative brick paver bands selected for narrower sidewalks in the new down- town Glen Ellyn.
This construction is part of the Central Business Dis- trict Streetscape and Utility Project. The first major phase of the project on Main Street, Duane Street and Hillside Avenue is slated to begin in early 2022. The project includes the replacement of the 100+
year old underground infrastructure system and new sidewalks, roadway, crosswalks, plant- ers, sidewalk furniture and trees. To learn more about the project and to see images of what the new downtown will look like, visit the project website at www.downtownge.com
Permitted Lawn Sprinkling Times The Illinois Department of Natural Resources mandates that water conservation measures be undertaken between May 15 and September 15.
Glen Ellyn regulations allow odd- numbered street addresses to water lawns on odd-numbered calendar dates, while even- numbered street addresses may water on even-numbered calendar dates. Lawn sprinkling on this odd/even schedule may only be performed from 5-8 a.m. and 7-11 p.m.

He currently serves as the Executive Director of Science and Technol- ogy at the University of Chicago. Prior to his current role, he was the Chief Operating Officer at Roberson and Associates Consulting, and Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Motorola/Nokia. He also founded a telecom- munications startup company. Trustee Payne received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. He cur- rently serves on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Science and Technology Coalition, as well as on the Executive Advisory Board for Purdue University’s Electrical and Computer Engineering De- partment.
Village Clerk Caren Cosby Caren Cosby has worked as a Video and Live Events Producer and Writer, as well as Manager of Teleprompting Services, for Camera Originals for over 20 years. She graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in Journalism and prior to that earned an Associate in Arts degree from College of DuPage. She is a current member of Illinois Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 1220.
Clerk Cosby has been a resident of Glen Ellyn for 28 years along with her husband, Dave and daughter, Courtney.
Tea With the Trustees Glen Ellyn residents and business owners can meet with their Village leaders during Tea with the Trustees, a new event that is free and open to the public. This informal setting offers the opportunity to ask questions, share concerns, and hear about what is happening in Glen Ellyn.

Summer Events in Glen Ellyn Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois Plan, which went into effect June 11, marks the return of traditional conventions, festivals, and large events without capacity restrictions. The Village of Glen Ellyn, in conjunction with event coordinators, are anticipating wel- coming back larger-scale events this summer. This includes many of the annual events the community offers, hosted by the 4th of July Committee, the Chamber of Commerce, the Alliance of Downtown Glen Ellyn, among other local organizations. Planning a Block Party Residents living in incorporated Glen Ellyn that are interested in hosting a block party in their neighborhood must complete a block party request form, found on the Village website at www.glenellyn.org/blockparty. The Village requires block party request forms be submitted at least two weeks prior to the proposed event.
In cooperation with the Village of Glen Ellyn, the Glen Ellyn Park District offers residents the opportunity to use a Block Party Wagon during block party events. The wagon con- tains 100 chairs, ten tables, a large outdoor grill, and a bean bag toss game. The Park District will drop off

Police Department Reminds Residents to Lock Their Vehicles
The Glen Ellyn Police Department reminds you to stay vigilant now and throughout the year in locking vehicles to prevent burglary and theft.
Since the start of 2021, there have been 15 reported incidents of burglar- ies to motor vehicles and 11 reports of
motor vehicle theft to the Glen Ellyn Police Department.
Continue to take the following simple, proactive steps in safeguarding your property:
Develop a habit to lock your vehicles, regardless of the time of day.
Do not leave your keys or key fobs in your vehicle. Avoid leaving valuables in your vehicle. Secure brief-
cases, purses, electronics, etc. inside your home. If you park your vehicle(s) outside and unattended,
make sure to remove the garage door opener along with any property that may tempt thieves.
Do not leave items of value in plain view inside your vehicle.
Alerting Tool Offers Residents Opportunity to Receive Critical Emergency Information In 2020, the Village of Glen Ellyn launched a new notification tool to alert citizens about emergencies. This tool allows the Village to deliver essential information quickly in a variety of situations includ- ing severe weather alerts, emergency police notifications and emergency utility notifications.
All users have the ability to customize their notification preferences after signing up on the Village’s website directly at www.glenellyn.org/alert.
Emergency notifications and updates can be sent out via email and/or text mes- sages through the system. Additionally, each notification will be highly visible at the top of each Village webpage in the event of an emergency.

Be Prepared for Heavy Storms Since floods can happen fast, you should always be prepared. The following are some suggestions:
Keep storm sewer inlets and drainage ditches clear of debris, including leaves and grass clippings. Make sure your sump pump is working. Consider a battery backup unit. Monitor potential flood hazards on an All Hazards NOAA Weather Radio, local radio or television or on the internet at https://
www.spc.noaa.gov/products/wwa/. Copy your most important papers (mortgage papers, deeds, passport, bank and credit card information). Keep the copies in
your home and place the originals outside your home in a secure place like a safety deposit box. Go through your basement (if not your entire house) and take photos of your most valuable possessions (furniture, musical
instruments and electronic equipment). Store these photos with your other papers. Save and store receipts for any expensive household items, such as appliances and electronics so you have proof of their
original cost. Assess your flood risk and make sure you have adequate flood insurance coverage.
Flood plain and flooding questions? Glen Ellyn’s Community Development Department can help you determine whether your property is in the floodplain; if it contains floodways, wetland, or other environmentally sensitive areas; or if there are other known drainage problems The engineer in the Community Development Department can be reached by phone at (630) 547-5247. Copies of the Flood Insurance Rate Maps are available at the Civic Center and online at https://msc.fema.gov/portal/home. Additionally, the Community Development Depart- ment has some of the elevation certificates on file for buildings in the floodplain.
Flood insurance available for Glen Ellyn properties Most homeowners’ policies do not cover flood losses. Since Glen Ellyn participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), you can protect your home and contents by purchasing a flood insurance policy. You should obtain coverage for structure and contents since there can be more damage to the contents than the structure. Renters can also buy contents coverage even if the owner does not insure the structure. There is a 30-day waiting period before the policy becomes effective. To find out more about flood insurance, contact any licensed insurance agent or broker - the same person who sells your home and auto policies. You may be denied federal assistance after a disaster if you don’t have flood insurance.
A Preview of the New Downtown Streetscape is Coming Soon
A section of the new downtown Glen Ellyn streetscape is coming to the southeast corner of Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, in front of the A Toda Madre restaurant. Construction began in early May and is expected to be complete in late June 2021. Work will include storm sewer improve- ments along Pennsylvania Avenue and widening of the sidewalk to allow for outdoor dining. The new sidewalks will include decorative brick paver bands selected for narrower sidewalks in the new down- town Glen Ellyn.
This construction is part of the Central Business Dis- trict Streetscape and Utility Project. The first major phase of the project on Main Street, Duane Street and Hillside Avenue is slated to begin in early 2022. The project includes the replacement of the 100+

Permitted Lawn Sprinkling Times The Illinois Department of Natural Resources mandates that water conservation measures be undertaken between May 15 and September 15.
Glen Ellyn regulations allow odd- numbered street addresses to water lawns on odd-numbered calendar dates, while even- numbered street addresses may water on even-numbered calendar dates. Lawn sprinkling on this odd/even schedule may only be performed from 5-8 a.m. and 7-11 p.m.
