Theme: “Young Torchbearers”
Class-VI (2015-16)
Dear Students,
Summer vacation is a welcome break........breaks from fixed schedule, rules and
regulations. Freedom brings more responsibility, keeping this in mind we have specially
designed theme based projects and activities to engage you in exploring varied vistas of
knowledge.
To inculcate reading habit we would appreciate if you could read Newspaper daily and at
least one book/storybook (Hindi/English) of your choice per week. You have to donate one
book for your class library.
Following are a few handy tips for you to work in an organized and fun filled
manner:
Make a balanced time table to ensure that learning is fun.
Visit your grandparents, cousins and go camping.
Play outside every day and learn new skill.
Read the instructions carefully given in each subject while doing your assignments.
Assignments should be done neatly.
Use your imagination and creativity for perfect presentation of your work.
Solve /answer the practice worksheets regularly.
We would appreciate if your work is done by you only.
Last but not the least ENJOY and have wonderful holiday. Come back
healthy and HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Torchbearers
The two meanings of the word ‘torchbearer’are
a.a person who carries a torch b. a leader in a movement,campaign etc.
Let’s look for the inspiration within and around us to spread our light ...
Instructions:
Labelling and cover page-All written work to be done on coloured A4 sized
sheets compiled together and labelled with your name on a separate cover
page using alliteration e.g. Diva Divya’s Diary, Natty Neena etc.
Printout and compilation -For compulsory activity take out printouts of
attached worksheets on A4 sized paper.Compile along with the A4 sheets
with the done options of Tic-Tac activity as one file/folder.
Attachment-If you choose to make the book jacket, it should be
attached/pasted on an A4 sheet along with the rest of the work in the
file/folder,

3-2-1 Worksheet
Follow the given directions:
Step 1. Take out printouts of the given worksheet.The worksheet has also
been provided as a separateattachment.
Step 2. Amidst all the fun and games of your holiday, allocate some time to
discover Biniya’s world and read the novella ‘Blue Umbrella’ by Ruskin Bond.
The story has been divided into chapters. Fill in the three questions in one
of the copies of the worksheet before you move on to the next chapter.
So, let ‘s take time out after reading each chapter and answer the questions
given in the attached worksheet. The questions are simple as 1,2,3 !!
P.S.-The number of worksheets must be same as the number of chapters in
the novel.

It is no doubt that the world today is greatly indebted to the contributions made by Indian Mathematicians. One of the most important contributions made by them was the introduction of decimal system as well as the invention of zero.
Fields Medal winner Manjul Bhargava says his inspiration has been ancient Indian mathematicians
Manjul Bhargava, the first Indian-origin mathematician to win the coveted Fields Medal, says the inspiration behind his discoveries in number theory has been the classic works of ancient Indian mathematicians.
"Their works contain incredible mathematical discoveries, and were very inspirational to me as a young mathematician. The classic works of Pingala, Hemachandra, and Brahmagupta have been particularly influential in my own work," the 40-year-old Princeton University professor told IndiaToday.in in a detailed email interview.

Make a Calendar 2015-16(Table top/Hanging) using the pictures of Young Mathematicians. For example: Brahmgupta, Aryabhatta,C.S. RAMANUJAN, Ramanujan,D.R. Kaprecor,
Harishchandra,Satyendranath Bose ,Bhaskara
Sri LakkojuSanjeevaraya Sharma-Renowned Mathematics Genius, who won 13 Gold
Medals worldwide, and blind by birth.
Note the following instructions:
i. Paste picture of a Mathematician for all twelve months. ii. Write few lines about his/her contribution adjacently. iii. Mark the multiples of that particular month with green colour, Prime
numbers with yellow colour and composite number with Pink colour. iv. Assessment will be done with respect to the students- Data

What might this item look like in future? (Draw a sketch)

What are the positive and negative aspects of Internet?

We the citizens of India belong to a country which is unique for its diverse
culture, Language customs and traditions. If we get the opportunity to go for
“Bharat Darshan” we would find striking difference in the culture in North,
South, East and West. Going on a journey to all these regions keeping in mind
the vastness of the country is a distant dream for us but fortunately for us we
do not need totravel long distance to explore this diversity. We just need to
step out of our house and look around – Diversity is all around us.
