Summer Bridge from Fifth Grade to Sixth Grade Reading: Students should continue with their year-long routine of reading five days a week for 30 minutes. It is really important that this take place. Summer is a time to reset,yet we need to keep our skills constant. Kids should read things that are of interest to them. There are no specifically assigned books.
Math: The most effective option we have found in the past is for students to use WOWZERS on the computer three or four days a week all summer long. Another great option is for the students to do the math boxes in their math journals that we did not do in class. These are great refresher for math skills. If you would like to have a hard copy packet of math activities, please email Mrs. Bednarczyk at donna.bednarczyk@gpschools. org Packets will be given to the students who have requested them.
Important Note: This work is not intended to be done in a week or two. Continuing to read and work math problems all summer long in short sessions will be extremely beneficial to your child as they begin the next chapter of their education in middle school.
