About the Work-Life OfficeThe University of Kentucky wants employees to succeed both professionally and personally. The Work-Life Office is here to support employees through programs, services, and events to help meet those goals. The office also administers the UK@Work survey in an effort to help leaders and employees recognize the strengths and opportunities within their work environment and unit.
How We HelpIndividual and Family Counseling: We are a voluntary, confidential UK benefit offering free and reduced-fee counseling with licensed therapists for faculty, staff and their families. All faculty, regular employees (FTE 0.50 or greater), spouses, sponsored dependents, unmarried children up to the age of 26 (or older if disabled before the age of 26), and UK retirees are eligible for up to five free sessions. Additionally, we offer workshops for supervisors and departments on topics ranging from managing stress to processing grief to helping prevent suicide.
Elder Care: University of Kentucky Elder Care is a free employee benefit established to support regular full-time and part-time UK faculty, staff, retirees, and their spouses nationwide who help their parents, spouses and other older family members. Our staff can assist by providing information, consultation, guidance, referrals, and by helping caregivers to plan ahead. We offer monthly Lunch & Learns on topics ranging from “Elder Law and Caregiving” to “Caring for Someone with Dementia” and also host the annual UK Senior Resource Fair each November.
Work-Life Effectiveness: Managing one’s work and personal life responsibilities is an ongoing process. Worklife effectiveness means different things for different people. It may mean seeking flexibility in a work schedule to better meet department needs or finding childcare resources that will help a new parent return to work after leave. Whatever stage of life, the Work-Life Office strives to ensure employees and supervisors are supported in their professional and personal goals.

To begin the first week of camp, applications must be received by May 18, 2018; however, many of our camps fill to capacity before this time. Visit www.lexingtonky.gov/parks for printable applications. For more information call 288-2929.
REAL Summer Fun Camp The Recreation Enrichment and Learning (REAL) Summer Fun Camp is a cooperative venture between Fayette County Public Schools and Lexington Parks & Recreation to offer summer programming to middle-school-aged children. Held at Southern Middle School, this camp will operate for eight weeks. The hours of operation are 7:15 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Registration is open to students entering sixth through entering ninth grade, not to exceed 14 years of age. Activities will include swimming, field trips, active games and some educational components. A breakfast and afternoon snack will be provided. Students will be required to pack a lunch every day. Costs per child are $110 per week for one child, $210 per week for two children, and $300 per week for three children. Additionally, there is a one-time $50 activity fee if campers attend three or less weeks and $100 fee for four or more weeks. For more information call 288-2929.
Please note: Participating in current ESP programs does not mean you have a registered household with Parks’ online system. You must obtain a new user ID to register for other camps and programs.
“I Do” Initiative Parks & Recreation will once again be part of the “I Do” Initiative. Camp Shalom $https://jewishlexington.org/camp-shalomCamp Shalom is the only Jewish summer day camp in the central Kentucky area. Our non-denominational program provides a safe and comfortable setting for children from all backgrounds and streams of Judaism to come together and learn about Jewish culture, history, and identity regardless of their individual background or level of observance. Camp is open to children of all religions. Activities are geared to
arts and crafts, sports, music, water play, storytelling, games, teva (nature), and other special projects. Campers entering second through sixth grades also have the option to add an extra mini-overnight session week in August! This was a big hit last year, and we are excited to do it again. New this year
