SUMMER CAMPGROUNDS 2020-21

CampSaver SummerCampSaver is the NZMCA member benefit providing a range of affordable campgrounds. Introduced initially as an off-season program in 2019, CampSaver has grown to include two different seasons of the year. These are ‘CampSaver Winter’ (the off-season) and ‘CampSaver Summer’ (the shoulder-season). Each season does contain different rates, participating campgrounds, duration dates and conditions.

The Duration

1st November 2020 - 31st March 2021 (shoulder-season). Excludes Christmas to Waitangi (18th December - 8th February), all Anniversary weekends (respective to area) and select peak occupancy weekends (respective to campground).

The Rate

25% off a campground’s public/standard rate for 1 or 2 in a vehicle (T&C’s apply - see ‘how to use’).

Bonus: Some campgrounds are offering the CampSaver Winter rate during Summer: $20 for 2 ($15 for 1).

DISCLAIMER: The agreement made between the NZMCA and participating campgrounds is that CampSaver affects the ‘rate’ at a campground. Policies and procedures of the campground outside the rate are not dictated by the NZMCA. Failure to follow the ‘how to use’ instructions may result in dissatisfaction of the program, and participating camps are not liable to make any exceptions to NZMCA members. We cannot guarantee that all the information provided in the Travel App, ONLINE Travel Directory, each campground’s website and the printed directory is up to date as the information is subject to change.

Redeeming the rate

1) Present a financial membership card, 2) Ask for CampSaver

Failure to do both may result in the campground charging their normal rate. Mem-bership is non-transferrable and should not be lent to non-members to redeem the rate. Campgrounds are entitled to request secondary proof of identification.

Check the campground listing on the Travel App OR the ONLINE Travel Directory for: • Contact details and restrictions• Exclusion dates and campground closures• Facilities & additional costs • Max. Stay - the length of time you can stay on CampSaver before needing to pay full price. Longer stays by negotiation• If the rate applies to single persons (only a small number are unable to offer this)• Making a booking - only available for some camps on the app

Where it all began..

One of the main driving forces behind ‘CampSaver’ stemmed from an interaction with Island View Holiday Park in Opotiki.

In early 2018, CEO Bruce Lochore came across the campground gem situated on Waiotahi Beach, with stunning panoramic views out across the Pacific Ocean overlooking White Island. While staying at Island View, Bruce discovered that they were offering an incredible discount to NZMCA members and gold card holders - a nightly rate less than half of what it would cost to park there in its peak season.

The Parks’ owner found that “whilst the nightly rate is low, the tendency for longer stays, together with growing numbers has more than compensated. [They] have found the NZMCA member group to be particularly respectful, and ‘low impact’ due to them mostly being fully self-contained”. For Island View, taking this approach, in offering a low rate of exceptional value to members, meant in return they developed an important additional income stream.

In late 2018, we conducted a survey where you told us the biggest barrier to staying in campgrounds was the price and that you would be encouraged to stay in camps if rates were more affordable. In 2019 having seen Island View’s success and positive member feedback, CampSaver was created. Today CampSaver provides significant and exciting benefits to both members and holiday park owners alike.
