Concierto de Verano de música de cámaraChamber music summer concert Helsinki, 27 junio 2019.- La Embajada de México en Finlandia superó todas sus expectativas al registrar un lleno completo en el concierto de música de cámara ofrecido en la Sala Balder Hall de Helsinki. Nuestra Embajada tuvo el honor de contar con la interpretación de tres músicos mexicanos contemporáneos: el compositor y pianista Santos Cota, la soprano María Esther González y el clarinetista Emiliano López Guadarrama, todos ellos profesionales de la música y docentes de la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC). Los melómanos finlandeses fueron deleita-dos por los músicos mexicanos con sus interpretaciones de obras de compositores europeos como Louis Sophr, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart y Franz Schubert, así como con icónicas piezas de México como Lejos de ti de Manuel María Ponce y Júrame de María Grever. El concierto en el Balder Hall también incluyó las composi-ciones Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano y Seven Songs, creadas por el propio Santos

Cota en 1996. Las interpretaciones musi-cales estuvieron acompañadas por diaposi-tivas de obras de arte firmadas por la pinto-ra mexicana Estela Hussong (1950), inspiradas en la vegetación y paisaje de Baja California. El concierto se trans-mitió en vivo a través de Facebook Live y tuvo un alcance de casi 8000 personas en diversas partes del mundo.La Embajada desta-ca la gratitud y satisfacción mani-festada por parte del público presente al término de este evento cultural de acceso gratuito. Helsinki, June 27th, 2019.- The Mexican Embassy in Finland has exceeded all expectations thanks to a summer concert of chamber music performed at the Balder Hall in Helsinki which registered full house. Our Embassy had the honor to listen to the performances of three Mexican contempo-rary musicians: composer and pianist Santos Cota, soprano María Esther González and clarinetist Emiliano López Guadarrama, all professional musicians and teachers at the Autonomous Universi-ty of Baja California. The Finnish music lovers were delighted by the performance of interpretations of several European composers such as, Louis Sophr, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Schubert. The program also included iconic Mexican music pieces such as Lejos de ti, by Manuel María Ponce and Júrame by María Grever. The program included as well pieces created by Santos Cota himself in 1996: Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano and Seven Songs. The music was accompa-nied by slides depicting the art work by Mexican painter Estela Hussong (1950), inspired in Baja California’s green setting and landscape. The concert was streamed live by using Facebook Live and reached close to 8000 people in different parts of the world. The Embassy wants to emphasize the appreciation and satisfaction by the audience at the end of this free access cultural activity and takes the opportunity to express its commitment to keep promoting Mexico’s art and culture in Finland.

DIPLOMACIA | DIPLOMACYMéxico en el 70 aniversario del Consejo de EuropaMexico at the 70th anniversary of the Council of EuropeHelsinki, 16-17 mayo 2019.- El Embajador Ernesto Céspedes tuvo el honor de representar a México en los eventos organizados en Helsinki en ocasión del 70 aniversario del Consejo de Europa y del término de la presidencia finlandesa del Comité de Ministros de dicho Consejo (noviembre 2018-mayo 2019). México actúa como país observador permanente del Consejo de Europa desde el primero de diciembre de 1999 junto con Canadá, Japón y Estados Unidos, y como tal, participa entre otros en las reuniones del Comité de Ministros, de los comités de expertos, de monitoreo, de investigación y de análisis sobre el cumplimiento de obligaciones de los Estados miembros. El Consejo de Europa obedece a una organización internacional que promueve los valores de la democracia y los derechos humanos, valores compartidos con México. Tras la presidencia finlandesa, Francia presidirá el Comité de Ministros del Consejo de Europa hasta el próximo 29 de noviembre de 2019. which advocates for the values of democra-cy and human rights, values shared by Mexico. After the Finnish presidency, France will be chairing the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe until next 29th of November 2019.

Helsinki, 28-29 mayo 2019.- El Embajador Céspedes participó en la ciudad de Vaasa, al Oeste de Finlandia, en el ciclo de conferencias sobre energía limpia y educación organizado para el Cuerpo Diplomático acreditado en Finlandia por la Cancillería finlandesa y las autoridades de dicha ciudad. El Cuerpo Diplomático tuvo la oportunidad de visitar las instalaciones del Centro de Innovación Energética de Vaasa, la empresa Wärtsilä, la Universidad de Vaasa y la Escuela Normal VöS. Helsinki, May 28th-29th, 2019.- Ambassador Ernesto Céspedes visited the city of Vaasa, in western Finland, to take part in the series of conferences on clean energy and education arranged for the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Finland by both the Finnish Foreign Ministry and the City of Vaasa. The visiting Diplo-matic Corps had the opportunity to visit the Vaasa Energy Business Innovation Center, the headquarters of Wärtsilä, the University of Vaasa and the School VöS.

Helsinki, 22 mayo 2019.- En la edición 4/2018 de este boletín informamos sobre el proyecto iniciado en el acuario finlandés SEA LIFE Helsinki para la conservación del pez Cachorrito de San Ignacio, especie endémica de México, cuyo hábitat natural se encuentra en el pequeño manantial Baños de San Ignacio, Linares, Nuevo León. En mayo pasado tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar las instalaciones de SEA LIFE Helsinki, donde el curador Markus Dernja-tin nos dio a conocer los últimos avances del proyecto.

LIFE’s premises in Helsinki, where curator Markus Dernjatin shared the latest progress in the project. In the last year, Finnish experts have been focusing on creating a suitable environment for breeding this fish species and the results have been highly positive. The fish population at the Aquarium has multiplied by five and the staff at SEA LIFE is already getting ready for the third Pupfish generation. The Mexican Embassy wants to thank SEA LIFE Helsinki for its great job in protecting the San Ignacio Pupfish and hopes this project promotes new cooperation initiatives among the Mexican and Finnish scientific communities, on behalf of this and other species.

Mexico and Finland in the international arena, when it comes to matters related to democracy, the rule of law, human rights, disarmament and combating climate change. Founded in 1906, the Center Party is one of the main political forces in Finland and part of the current Finnish government, which is led by the Social Democratic Party. The members of the Youth wing of the Finnish Center Party are between15 and 29 years old; they participate in several activities of the Center Party.

Helsinki, 23-24 mayo 2019.- La Embajada recibió la visita de un grupo de 14 estudiantes mexicanos de Negocios Internacionales procedentes de la Universidad Mondragón, de Querétaro, en ocasión de su estancia en la Universidad Haaga-Helia de Ciencias Aplicadas de Finlandia. La estancia es resultado del convenio de doble titulación establecido en agosto de 2017 entre ambas instituciones. El programa de cuatro años de duración es la primera titulación finlandesa que puede completarse en su totalidad en un país extranjero. Los estudiantes mexicanos compartieron sus experiencias con el sistema de estudios, así como las amplias posibilidades de aprendizaje que ofrece el convenio.Asimismo, las oficinas de la Embajada fueron sede de la visita de un grupo de estudiantes de tercer grado de la escuela secundaria de Lieksa, Joensuu, en el marco del proyecto denominado en finés “Matkalla”, pensado para apoyar a jóvenes de 13 años aproximadamente, del Colegio Finlandés en Guadalajara, México, y del Colegio Lieksan Keskuskoulu, en Lieksa, Finlandia. Participaron en la visita las docentes del centro, así como la doctora Carolina Islas Sedano, de nacionalidad mexicana. Las profesoras ofrecieron en la Embajada una presentación sobre las características de la educación secundaria en Finlandia. La visita se tradujo en un intercambio de información sobre los sistemas de educación implementados en ambos países en el que se pusieron en relieve sus fortalezas y contrastes. Durante su visita a la Embajada, los dos grupos tuvieron la oportunidad de conocer a la diputada Cynthia López Castro, Secretaria de la Comisión de Educación y Cultura de la Cámara de Diputados, quien visitó Finlandia para informarse sobre las características del modelo educativo de este país.

Helsinki, May 23th-24th, 2019.- A group of 14 Mexican students on International Business Studies from Mondragon Univer-sity in Querétaro, México, visited the Embassy in Helsinki as part as their stay at the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in Finland, as a result of the agree-ment concluded in August 2017 between the two institutions for a double-program Bachelor’s degree. It is a four-year program and is the first Finnish degree that can be carried out completely in a foreign country. The visiting Mexican students shared with the Embassy their experience with the learning system, as well as the wide range of opportunities offered by the agreement. In an analog fashion, another group of students, this time from the 3rd grade at the Secondary School of Lieksa, in Joensuu, visited the headquarters of the Embassy as part of the so-called “Matkalla” project,

conceived to support 13 years-old students from the Finnish School in Guadalajara, Mexico, and the Lieksan Keskuskoulu School, in Lieksa, Finland. The students were accompanied by some of their teach-ers, as well as by doctor Carolina Islas-Se-dano, a fellow Mexican. The teachers gave a presentation at the Embassy with regard to the distinctive features of the Secondary Education in Finland. The visit became an event of information exchange on the education systems implemented in both countries highlighting their respective strengths and contrasts. At the Embassy, both groups had the opportunity to be introduced to Mexican Congresswoman Cynthia López Castro, Secretary of the Commission for Education and Culture at the Mexican Congress, who visited Finland to become acquainted with the Finnish education system.

Helsinki, 5 junio 2019.- Jóvenes estudiantes de la ciudad de Monterrey participaron en la sesión final de la “Cumbre de Estudiantes por el Clima” celebrada en Helsinki, coincidiendo con el Día Mundial del Medio Ambiente. El evento fue auspiciado por el gobierno de Finlandia y el propio Presidente Sauli Niinistö, y logró reunir en Helsinki a estudiantes y maestros procedentes de alrededor de 100 países. Organizado por la escuela global y red comunitaria para el desarrollo sostenible Environment Online-ENO (creada en el año 2000 por el maestro finlandés Mika Vanhanen), el evento tuvo como objetivo captar 3 millones de toneladas de dióxido de carbono para 2025.

México en la Cumbre de Estudiantes por el Clima Mexico in the World Summit of Students for Climate

Helsinki, June 5th, 2019.- Young Mexican students from Monterrey, Nuevo León, came to Helsinki to be part of the final session of the World Summit of Students for Climate, organized on the World Environment Day. The summit was supported by the Government of Finland and its President Sauli Niinistö, bringing together a number of students and teach-ers from about 100 countries. Organized by the global school and community net for sustainable development Environment Online-ENO, founded in 2000 by Finnish teacher Mika Vanhanen, the aim of the event was to capture 3 million tons of carbon dioxide by 2025.

Helsinki, June 11th, 2019.- The Embassy welcomed a delegation from the State of Hidalgo visiting Finland and Estonia to explore cooperation opportunities in e-governance and digital engineering, areas where both Estonia and Finland have reached great success thanks to its high development in technology.The delegation from Hidalgo included José Alonso Huerta Cruz, Director General of the Council of Science, Technology and Innova-tion of Hidalgo (CITNOVA); Alejandro Franco Segura, Director General for Scien-tific Development at CITNOVA; Víctor Leonel Pérez López, Deputy Director of CITNOVA; Marcela Álvarez Guevara, Direc-tor for Scientific and Technological Entre-preneurship at CITNOVA; Carlos Iván Vargas, Group coordinator and representa-tive of the National Polytechnic Institute-CIECAS and Bogart Montiel Reyna, Executive Director for Administra-tive matters at INE, the Mexican Electoral Institute. Estonia is one of the most digitalized socie-ties in the world where most of the public services’ processes are available online. In the year 2000, Estonia was the first country in the world to declare access to Internet as a human right. In 2005, Estonia also became the first country to offer electronic voting at a national level.
