ummertime is the perfect time to help stretch a child’s imagination, intellect and body. Summer Explorations, The Elisabeth Morrow School’s camp program for three-year-olds through ninth grade students, provides a blend of academic, arts and special interest

classes designed to encourage children to learn new things, build their creativity and enhance academic skills.

Experienced teachers from The Elisabeth Morrow School as well as other local schools are the faculty for the Summer Explorations program. Many of our faculty members return to the program year after year, and many of our counselors — college and high school students who work closely with our faculty — are Elisabeth Morrow alumni as well as former campers.

Basketball Camp Morning — Grades 2–4 The CMEK Basketball Camp is designed for those players who love basketball. Each day includes a myriad of basketball skills and drills stations, basketball related fitness exercises and organized games. We focus on individual skill development within a comfortable environment in which each player is placed in an age/skill appropriate group. Our coaching staff is highly trained to teach and motivate each player to get the most out of his/her potential.

Bricks for Kidz Workshops Mining and Crafting Morning — Grades 2–4 Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. At night monsters come out, so make sure to build a shelter before that happens. Experience the world of Minecraft with LEGO® bricks in this fun week-long workshop. Start by crafting shelters and some of the mobs, critters and tools using LEGO® bricks. Face new challenges each day, building models and crafting key elements from the popular Minecraft game.

Handwork Studio Morning and/or Afternoon — Grades 2–6 Imagine your child spending their day in the care of warm and loving teachers making wonderful creations! At the Handwork Day Camp, our goal is to envelope campers in learning, creativity, imagination and giggles. Campers will spend their time sharing stories and laughs while stitching snuggly creatures and crafting handy dandy accessories. During the week campers will partake in learning the wonderful practical skills of knitting, hand and machine sewing, needle-felting and much more! All materials and supplies are included, no previous experience necessary.

Fashion and Machine Sewing Camp Afternoon — Grades 4–6 Welcome to the wonderful world of Machine Sewing! Whether you are a budding “fashionista” who craves to make their own trendy dresses or a crafty kid interested in learning how to create a purple unicorn, then this class may be just the thing! The Handwork Studio knows that at this age it is all about choice. With many sewing patterns to choose from and bolts and bolts of tempting fabric, every camper will have ownership in what they choose to make. Our patient and skilled teachers work with campers of all abilities and ensure that your child is being taught the necessary and appropriate skills. Skills range from learning how to use the sewing machine to measuring, pinning, cutting and then putting patterns together.

Mad Science Afternoon — Grades 2–4 Join the Mad Science instructors as they lead their class in different experiments and fascinating, fun hands-on activities. Students will explore different types of robots, build a robotic hand and learn about the wild side of animals and underwater life. Students will also learn about energy and take apart crazy machines and even build a catapult. We will also mix up some awesome physical chemistry and watch what happens! Students will receive daily take home activities to share with their families to further extend their learning experiences.

Story Pirates Workshop Hero Story Writing Afternoon — Grades 2–6 Who is your hero and why? Join the Story Pirates as they tap into the deep love for hero stories that so many students have. They will ask the students to look at the idea of a hero in ways they may not have considered before. Each student will create their own hero character, creating

well-rounded, surprising characters that go beyond the stereotypical heroes. They will plan out creative, non-violent solutions which this character might use to solve problems. This is also a perfect opportunity to focus on dialogue writing and provide plenty of fun ways for students to come up with snappy phrases for their character. Through interactive games and daily exercises, students will make their hero truly come to life!

i2 Tech Camp Courses Full Day — Grades 5–6 Building an Interactive Friendly Monster Have you ever wanted your stuffed animals or other toys to come to life? Now they can! In this course, work with fabric and electronics to make your own interactive friend. Students will use conductive thread, felt, lights, speakers and sensors to make a soft and cuddly monster that responds to you. They will learn how to use programming to make their creature play music and glow at their commands.
