I HIT HAPPY HOUR AT Cure because you can get classic cocktails for about $5. The vibe is a perfect blend of post-work relaxation with a patio, awesome music, plus great drinks and eats. curenola.com

A LOCAL RESTAURANT TOTALLY

WORTH THE BUZZ IS Pêche. I read about it, heard about it, and didn’t take the high praise seriously until I tried it. pecherestaurant.com

I’M TAKING MY DATE TO Victory (victorynola.com) for drinks and maybe their awesome shrimp pizza. And the night really begins at the late-night hustle party with DJ Soul Sister at the Hi-Ho Lounge (hiholounge.net), where she spins soulful music from vinyl records.

I FIND SHADE in City Park, under the trees and next to one of the many ponds.

I’M COOLING OFF AT Ogden After Hours on Thursday nights, when the Ogden Museum of Southern Art is open late for tours and features a musical act, drinks, and food. ogdenmuseum.org

I’M DAY-TRIPPING TO the Missis-sippi Gulf Coast. New Orleans has a lot of things, but an abundance of beaches isn’t one of them.

THE BEST PLACE TO SOAK IN THE SUN

IS Bayou St. John, which runs through Mid-City. Pack a bag and bike or catch the streetcar there. It’s a great place to lie out in the grass.

I’D BEAR A BRAIN FREEZE FOR a snowball from Plum Street Snoballs. Snowballs are as local as po’boys here. plumstreetsnoball.com

MY GO-TO SUMMER DRINK is a craft daiquiri with ginger, honey, and scotch from Booty’s Street Food New Orleans. It is just begging for more attention. bootysnola.com

MY SUMMER UNIFORM is style with the function of being cool. So, a straw hat, Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses, and shorts or rolled pants; my favorites are from Billy Reid. billyreid.com

I SCOUR THE FARM STANDS in Broadmoor or Mid-City where you can find fresh vegetables or seafood. And they often have some of the best food trucks in there.
