U9s SH White v MCC Simpson By Oliver and Mark

Summer Hill lost the toss but ended up bowling first. Oliver took 3 wickets. Matthew, William, Jack H, Hugo and Harry took 1 each. Maidens were bowled by Oliver (3) and William. Hugo took a good catch as keeper. William made a good run out. Marrickville scored 17. In Summer Hill's innings, William scored 22 with 3 fours. Matthew hit 3 fours for 18. Summer Hill scored 69. A victory for Summer Hill White on Hugo's birthday.

U12 Div 2 SH Green v MCC Gold 31st January

Led by 21 runs from Ares and three sets of wicket doubles from Mohammed, Oscar and Takoda, the Green boys chased down 73 runs to beat Gold. Rhys struck the winning run in the second last over.

The knife edge finish and the low scores from both teams came from the notoriously slow Waterworth Park field, with long, wet grass seeing just one four scored across both innings.

The Greens lost the toss and fielded, conceding several sundries until they shook off the cobwebs with Takoda and Nick breaking through. Keeper Angus' catch off Nick was a great effort.

Mohammed took the ball and in his second over grabbed two wickets in a double wicket maiden that at one point had him poised on a hat trick. At drinks the glove changed from Angus to Mohammed and our good work behind the pegs continued.

Rhys, the Back Stop Master, stopped or chased down 22 balls to help ensure no boundaries were scored behind the wicket. Oscar returned to bowl, grabbing a double that also saw him on a hat trick and then Takoda's second spell delivered another wicket to complete The Green Machine's trifecta of double wicket hauls. Greens fielding was on show again with Nick, Huw and Charlie handling some great chances close in and some excellent shots at the stumps.

Marrickville Gold are a tight outfit these days and Raf and Nick worked the ball around, earning their runs against the bowling and a glue-like outfield. Raf's stylish shot selection was great to watch but the long grass kept the rewards modest. When Ares joined Raf, the scoring accelerated and the running between wickets picked up pace, with Ares' stylish blade work driving the Greens towards victory.

As runs were so hard to get, everyone's runs counted, with Nick, Mohammed and Huw all pitching in. With four overs to go and five difficult-to-acquire runs left to get, there were a few wobbles, but patience and application paid off with Oscar and Rhys steering the boys home for the first win of 2015. Great work lads and well done!

U12 Div 2 SH Red v Newton Juniors 31st January

Refreshed after a long break, we all turned up for the return match again Newton Juniors at Ewan Park. The pitch had been well mown but the groundsman left the clipping loose on the pitch. The contrasting outfield was long and damp with early dew. All of us turned out to be 7 so a lucky win of the toss saw us batting hoping for some late arrivals.

Louis and Connor opened and it was not long before the wickets tumbled. Carlo did a hamstring, but Nirmay turned up to make us 8! Still the wickets tumbled. stayed his allotted 12 overs and retired. Our 6th wicket fell in the 15th over with the score at 36 (!) allowing Louise to resume his innings with Nirmay. A quick drinks break, a discussion on tactics (Stay there!) and back out we went.

Nirmay (7 not out) and Louis (19 n.o.) stayed together until the end of our 30 overs, our innings closing at 6/77. A job well done.

Carlo took the gloves. The cloud and dew had burnt away leaving a fast outfield which the Newton openers took to with delight adding 28 runs in just 6 overs before Charlie stuck. It was not until the 13th that Connor executed a perfect throw - 2

At the Drinks break Carlo took the ball and Jay the gloves. Carlo’s hamstring only last 3 balls and the innings only 2 more overs with Newton running out comfortable winners by 8 wickets.
