HELLO EVERYBODY!!

Amy here, introducing you to some of our fun filled summer activities! Hard to believe it’s Septebmer and fall is almost here! Which means winters coming, yuck!!! But all is well, because we will ensure that through this crazy Maine weather, your community and financial needs will always be met!

We have some amazing new programs coming to you later this year, which many of you already take part in. It’s a little program called REWARDS!! That’s right! Once this is implemented, you will then have the opportunity to switch your checking to this Rewards Checking Program only to get money back for just simply using your debit card! That’s pretty amazing, right?

The other charities and fundraisers we put on this summer were truly rewarding and we are beyond honored to be apart of such a caring and loving county like Penobscot.

We were also beyond thrilled to win 2nd place in our asset size for the Dora Maxwell Social Responsability Award in the State of Maine!! First one ever! But as if we’d stop there! I will be heading down to the Mohegan Sun Casino on September 23 to recieve two Financial Marketing Awards in all of New England, the highest recognition for marketing you can get among banks, credit unions, mortages compaines, and other financial instituions!!! One for Overall Philantrhopy and one for Civic Involvement, for the organizing, and arranging the marketing of the Stearns vs. Schenck Alumni Game!

Not only is being a member of a credit union rewarding, but working for one is even better! It’s like they are all about making everyone’s dreams come true! I have feel truly blessed to be apart of such an encouraging and exciting team!

If you are a member of Brewer FCU, I hope you enjoy your time with us, and we encourage you to bring in more members, because we care, and we want the opportunity to prove it!

With Much Heart Felt Love: Amy Collinsworth

The Dora Maxwell Award 2015Brewer FCU wins 2nd Place in their asset size for the State of Maine!

The Dora Maxwell Social Responsability Community Service Award is given to a credit union or chapter/multiple credit union groups for it’s social responsability projects within the

community. The award is given for external activities.

We decided that the best community service project we did in 2014 was the Stearns vs. Schenck Alumni Game. During that game, we were able to raise a substantial amount of money for a small region that we can accomodate now!

$1,420 was raised and to be divided between both high schools as they see fit. Not only that, we dedicated the game to a players recently deceased mother, AND created two new sports banners that currently hang in both gyms, symbolizing working together, and what can be accomplished if both towns work together.

This was our first real test run at sponsoring our own event, and with a full smile on my face, can say that it was an ultimate success...Exceeding our expectations by far. We want to show the nwer parts of our charter what it means to be a credit union, and how we are Brewer FCU differ ourselves from everyone else. We want to be apart of the community, we WANT to sponsor you, we WANT you to want to come to us, because we do more than just stash your money in a big mattress out back.

Continuing Our Community Support

Children’s Miracle Network

Auction 2015This year, on June 4th 2015, the Bangor Chapter of Credit Unions (nine total) got together

as a group and helped raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network by holding an auction at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bangor, Maine.

During this auction, they bid on items brought in by each credit union’s members, bought raffle tickets, and worked together for a great cause.

This year, they were able to raise more than $20,000 towards the charity and will continue to do so, hoping to surpass prior years expections!!

Thank you to the Chapter President, Dave Defroscia of Brewer Federal Credit Union, for organizing and helping to create such a memorable event.

Brewer FCU Staff- Rick Kaul: President/CEO, David Stanhope: Main Street Branch Manager, and Lucielle Knox, Dirigo Manager: glady present a check to CHEFS Food Pantry. Some of our staff generously donates their volunteer time every Thursday to help them each year, and we are very proud of them!

Brewer FCU’s Marketing Specialist Amy Collinsworth presents a check to Rich Romero of Brewer Area Food Pantry. We have been ecstatic here about the amount of money raised for our Ending Hunger Campaign, and how much we were able to donate to both parties! Let’s keep raising money and hope together!

ENDING HUNGER IN MAINE CAMPAIGN

AS CORPORATE SPONSORS OF THEMAINE PRINCIPALS ASSOCIATION

We congratulate all the teams that represented us in the Penobscot County for the Baseball/Softball Championship Games!

In the blue corner, we have the ever mighty and fighting Stearns Minutemen, who have once again proven to the rest of the state that it doesn’t matter what size your school is, just how big your heart is!

Making history, both the boys and the girls teams advanced to the Eastern Maine Finals after hosting both home games! Both teams ventured onto states, where they played their hearts out, and came in 2nd place. Their community was beyond thrilled at their accomplishments, and hope to keep their athletic ability alive!

In the red corner, once again facing off in an epic battle over the river, the Bangor Rams Baseball team move forward after a close game with the Brewer Witches. They, too, have proven their athletic skills over the years, and will continue to fight to keep their title!

They won their 2nd Championship in a row for their high school!

Again, we congratulate and thank you, for this is why we chose to sponsor such an encouraging and exciting program in our great State!

Page 13: Summer Issue 2015

Although we cannot sponsor individual causes, we can however, be a location to help raise money for your cause! In May, a mother and a member wrote to us asking if we could help raise money for her son’s ‘lottery’ medical trial. Connor White, a 12 year old Bangor native, was chosen among 20 children in the nation to be a part of the second phase of a ground breaking clinical trial for Autism.

That being said, Brewer FCU did what they could to help this family, for their medical bills and travel expenses (out of pocket costs) were above $17,000, an outstanding amount for anyone.

We did what we could, informing members of the cause by putting up posters and telling them at the teller line, and were able to help raise $100 in one week for this family!

The other tribute we did for them, was this picture you see above. We used one of their photos taken from a story, and converted it via photoshop, with a quote we asked Rachel, “What is it was like being a mother of an Autsitc boy.” They had no idea we were presenting this to them when they came in for the check. We placed it in a nice matted black frame, and hoped that it grace their living room, and put a smile on their faces each time they walked by.

Vice President Dave Defroscia looking dapper as ever!

Dave likes long walks on the beach and kittens. He has a love for fooseball and over the top dramatic movies.

But when he’s not working hard at Brewer FCU...he cooks hot dogs outside.. of Brewer FCU

LOL

Member #1 “Wow I love cups, especially glass ones...outside...where they can accidently fall off, break, make a mess, and Dave would have to clean it up...”

Member #2 “DO IT!”

LOL

“I’m Joseph Howe. I’m a 21 year old carpenter and resident of Millinocket. I’m an avid outdoorsman and love taking advantage of what the area has to offer. Whether it be fishing or hunting. Hiking or skiing. I’ve lived here all my life and always enjoyed the different animals I got to see. But I’ve never seen a blue Jay as friendly as this one. I was in my yard one day and noticed the it didn’t spook or fly away as I carried on around my yard. In fact, as I stood on my back deck, he flew to the railing beside me, just sitting there, looking around and back and forth at me. I slowly moved my hand closer and and found that I could pet him on the head. I thought to myself, this is amazing! I walked away for a moment and grabbed a handful of bird seed and placed it on the railing. He began to eat and allowed my to continue petting him. Not a care in the world. I laid my hand in the railing

just to see, and he stepped into my Palm grasping my thumb. And stood there as I took a few photos. I then let him go and carried on with my day. The following morning I went back out to find nothing stirring about. Then as I started walking towards the steps I saw the bird fly over and land beside me. And then up onto my shoulder. I was at a loss. This behavior continued for about a week and I haven’t seen him since. What an incredible experience! It’s truly amazing what nature will do if you just sit back and let it.”
