Summer, Issue #4 2014-2015 School Year Message to our VPI Kids Congratulations, it was a joy working with you this year. We look forward to your future success in kindergarten. Summer Home Learning Recipe

How Can You Prepare for Kindergarten?Moving from preschool to kindergarten is a big step in your child’s life, its’ a whole new world of learning for them. Review the checklist below to help your child feel ready. Full list is located at www.education.com.

Provide a daily routine that includes regular times for meals

Establish a bed time that gives your child 8 hours of sleep

Help your child develop independence in dressing, eating & hygiene

See that your child has opportunities for rigorous physical activity daily

Provide opportunities to play with your children

Make sure you have required immunization and current health exam

Take your child to a variety of places: the library, the grocery store, the park, the post office, etc.

Teach socially acceptable ways to disagree

Talk with your child about family, your culture and your values

Talk with your child and learn about other cultures in the community

Read to your child every day and provide them with books and magazines of their own

Receta de Aprendizaje de Verano

Título: Escarbando Letras

Porque? El/la niño/a podrá escribir y identificar las letras en su nombre.

Que? Papel, un plato o bandeja, tierra, arroz, avena o cualquier grano que cubra las letras en el nombre de el/la niño/a

Como? Un miembro de la familia romperá cada pedazo de papel por la mitad. Despues en cada mitad de papel escriba el primer nombre de el/la niño/a en mayúsculas. Usando una mitad del papel corte cada letra del nombre del niño/a. Entierre las letras en un tazón o bandeja con el arroz (o grano que decidió usar). Deje la otra mitad del nombre como una guía para que el/la niño/a lo use para poner cada letra que saca en el orden correcto.

Que Mas? Despues de que todas las letras han sido excavadas. Haga que el niño/a escriba su nombre en la tierra (o lo que uso para cubrir las letras) o también puede usar un pedazo de papel. Despues de que el/la niño/a pueda escribir su nombre con letras mayúsculas, las letras minúsculas pueden ser integradas.

Consejo: Haga que el/la niño haga decisiones basadas en evidencia en vez de solo adivinar la respuesta correcta.
