Summer Markets May 2017 Summer means fresh local fruit and veggies! Farmer’s markets and mobile markets will be open all over Rhode Island, selling the best and freshest produce. Did you know that many of these markets accept SNAP & WIC? And that many markets even offer bonus bucks to help you get the most out of your benefits? This FAQ provides a guide to farmers’ markets and other mobile fruit & vegetable markets throughout RI. Be good to yourself: eat local! Shop Rhode Island’s Farmers’ Markets! The next few pages list the current outdoor farmers’ markets in Rhode Island. For maps, and the most recent updates, visit www.farmfreshri.org. Markets that accept food assistance benefits are marked as such: S = SNAP benefits, W = WIC benefits, B = bonus bucks offered. Here are some things to keep in mind before you go shop! What do I need to bring? Don’t forget shopping bags! Most farmers will put your purchase in a plastic bag, but carrying all that can be a lot. A canvass bag or re-useable bag goes a long way! What do ‘Bonus Bucks’ mean? SNAP shoppers receive $2 bonus for every $5 spent at the market. For example, if you ask for $10, you’ll receive $14. You can use those bonus bucks to buy fruits, veggies, herbs, and plant starters. How do I use my benefits at the market? To use your SNAP benefits at these markets, find the welcome table. Hand your card to the market worker, and tell them how much you want to spend. They will swipe your card, and then give you tokens to use at the market including your bonus bucks. To use your WIC benefits, you give your check to the farmer at the stand (like you’re giving a personal check). You must sign your check in front of the farmer. Summer means fresh local fruit and veggies! Farmer’s markets and mobile markets will be open all over Rhode Island, selling the best and freshest produce. Did you know that many of these markets accept SNAP & WIC? And that many markets even offer bonus bucks to help you get the most out of your benefits?

To use your SNAP benefits at these markets, find the

welcome table.
