Annual campaign funds are primarily utilized as grants to Allied Arts’ 26 member agencies which offset operating costs; underwrite productions, performances and exhibits; and provide free and affordable programmingto ensure access to the arts for the entire community.

The campaign’s reach also extends to an additional 15-20 qualified nonprofit arts organizations each year through competitive grants to provide artseducation for local schoolchildren and to strengthen organizational capacities.

Each year, Allied Arts member agencies undergo a rigorous application process to receive Allied Artsallocation grants. As part of the annual allocationsprocess, Allied Arts member agencies submitapplications and make presentations to a committee comprised of board members, community volunteers and corporate leaders. The allocations committeereviews funding requests, evaluates agency financialstandings and listens to three days of agency presentations.Special thanks to the allocations committee for volun-teering countless hours to learn of the impact of Allied Arts member agencies in our community.

Because of the historic campaign performance, Allied Arts will award more than $2.55 million through its variousgrant programs, including allocations, educationaloutreach, capacity-building and power2give.

Allied Arts joined morethan 40 arts organizationson May 7 at the Oklahoma Capitol as part of the third annual Arts Day. Allied Arts hosted a table to share information on the impact of the arts across the state and met with legislators and their staff.

Allied Arts was also happyto help welcome Julia kirtto her new position as

Executive director of Oklahomans for the Arts. Kirt directed theOklahoma Visual Arts Coalition, an Allied Arts member agency, for the past 15 years, helping artists across the state realize their potential.

Oklahomans for the Arts unites the cultural sector to advocate about the importance of the arts in Oklahoma, including the connection between the economy, education and the arts.

In just three months, power2give has raised $133,820, including funds from a 1:1 match from Continental Resources. Already, 30 cultural nonprofits have posted requests in support of 42 projects – more than half of which have been fully funded. Projects range from the creation of pop-up art galleries to the launch of a non-classical violin youth program, and from an interpreter for hearing impaired theatre patrons to music lessons for underserved kids.

power2give is an online crowdfunding platform, giving individuals the power to directly supportarts projects that move them. Allied Arts launched the initiative in central Oklahoma to create a stronger relationship between individualdonors and the cultural community and to provide a unique opportunity for arts organizations to share their stories. In September 2013, American Ballet Theatre announced the formationof Project Plié, a comprehensive initiative to increase racial and ethnicrepresentation in ballet and diversify America’s ballet companies. To achieve this goal, Project Plié features a partnership between balletcompanies and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to introduce participantsto ballet and identify children for future training.

Oklahoma City Ballet raised $6,313 through power2give.org to introducetraining scholarships to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County through Project Plié.

As a former dancer, I was honored to meet the kids at the Boys & Girls Club and get them excited about ballet.  So many of them wanted to take a class but had reservations - money, time, their ability - these things affected their decisions, but we wanted them to know they could do it.

The people who work at the Boys & Girls Club were instrumental in making this program a success.  All of the kids in this program have loved it, and their teacher, Jerry Pines, has given them direction that visibly makes them feel like they can do something special.  I remember being that age and wanting to be a great dancer so badly. All I needed was one strong role model who believed in me.  

I can tell that Project Plié has been that for these children. Project Plié has given these kids a strong role model who says, ‘If you work hard, you can do it, and you can be great.’"

On April 4, Catalyst, the Allied Arts youngprofessionals group, held the 11th annual ARTini at the Oklahoma City Farmers Public Market. Event co-chairs Julie and heath hornbeek led a committee which sold hundreds of tickets, secured a record amount of sponsorships, and exhibited the work of local artists for auction – resulting in more than $52,000 raised for the arts in central Oklahoma.

Attendees tasted unique and original martinis from 11 of the metro’s best restaurants. ThePeople’s Choice martini winner was MickeyMantle’s Steakhouse. ARTini celebrity judges voted picasso café’s martini the Best DecoArtini; presented Union Tacos with the Best Deco Dishes; and awarded Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse the Best Deco Theme.
