Why Memorize the Bible?
No learning occurs without the learner mentally organizing, sifting and synthesizing information. Through these processes, the learner prepares to use what he learns in his life. It has been aptly said that the golden age for memorization is the junior years. Many juniors enjoy memorizing Bible verses when memorizing is presented as a challenge. The act of memorizing Bible verses of itself is not the goal. If memorizing Bible verses is done for the wrong reasons, the Bible verses will not be permanently stored in the mind. There are five reasons for encouraging juniors to memorize God’s Word.
• That they may know what God says is for personal application.
• That they may be aware of God’s approval or disapproval of their actions.
• That they may be reminded of what God expects of them as His children.
• That the principles in the Bible verses may govern their actions.
• That Bible principles may help them mature.
Encourage learners to memorize the thirteen Bible verses in this quarter by providing materials to construct memory verse ribbons. Attach one shape to ribbon each week for each verse memorized.
Materials Needed Per Learner:
1'' wide, 18-20'' length ribbon8 color coding labels or construction paper shapes (patterns are on the back of this sheet)scissorsred or black Sharpie markersstaple gun or double-stick tape for construction paperposter putty
Have each learner cut in half one color coding label, write his name on a half label, stick it to the top of the ribbon and attach it with poster putty. (Color coding labels may be purchased in stationary departments.) Have learners write on half labels the references of the Bible verses memorized weekly and stick them to the ribbons. (If construction paper shapes are used, they may be stapled to the ribbon or attached with double-stick tape.) Have a Memory Verse Bee at the end of each unit during the quarter. Encourage learners to continue reviewing the verses during each week to prepare for the contest. Have the Unit winner recognized in the church bulletin. Place a picture of the winner and an announcement on the bulletin board. Ask the pastor to recognize the three unit winners in worship at the end of the quarter.
To be used with the “Final Activity” in each lesson.

“And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.” Numbers 21:8
“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:14, 15
Compare the Bible verses and the pictures.Jesus told Nicodemus that as (in the same way) the people of Israel looked by
faith to the brazen serpent and lived, so (in the same way) you must look by faith to Him for eternal life. Have you put your faith in Jesus as your Savior?
“This man [Joseph of Arimathea] went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.” Luke 23:52, 53
“And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” Matthew 28:5, 6
“For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” John 3:17
“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” Revelation 22:17
Jesus died on the cross for you. He was buried in a tomb, but He arose the third day. He is alive today. Is Jesus your Savior? If not, ask your teacher to help you know the way to be saved.
