e Friends of e Franklin Public Library Spring 2015, Issue 16 We make summer reading fun here at the Franklin Public Library and we have a program for all ages of readers; from 1 to 100. This year’s theme for the children’s program is “Every Hero Has a Story.” The goal is for children to read 30 hours between June 15 and August 10, collecting prizes along the way. Reach a milestone—get a prize. If you complete all 30 hours you will be entered into our grand prize drawing. Every child who signs up will be invited to our wrap-up party in August. Teens, “UNMASK! Discover the Hero Within.” Every time you read a book fill, out a slip to be entered into our weekly drawing. We will give away gift cards each week from Starbucks, iTunes, Amazon and The Franklin Farmhouse Coffee & Ice Cream shop. The Adult theme this year is “Escape the Ordinary.” Once again read a book and fill out a slip to be entered into our weekly drawings. We will be giving away gift cards from the Farmhouse, Amazon and the Maple Theater. All teens and adults registered for summer reading will be invited to our wrap-up party in August. Book Club Thursday, May 28, 7:30 pm. !For the month of May we will be discussing a slimmer novel than we usually do, but no less enjoyable.  Join Adele Robbins as we explore, The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, by Gabrielle Zevin.  “A.J. Fikry's life is not at all what he expected.  He lives alone, his bookstore is experiencing the worst sales in its history, and now his prized possession, a rare collection of Poe poems, has been stolen.  But when a mysterious package appears at the bookstore, its unexpected arrival gives Fikry the chance to live his life over--and see everything anew.” All are welcome."

Adult Summer Reading Kick-off Picnic Wednesday, June 10, 6:30 pm.

Join us for a salad supper as we discuss good books for summer reading.  Bring the title of your favorite book from the last six months and we'll supply the food, wine and dessert.  We'll discuss your favorite recent books along with book series you may want to focus on.  A summer reading list will be compiled from the discussions that will be available at the library.  Registration required. "

Spring has finally arrived which means that summer, our busiest season here at the library, is just around the corner. Starting June 15 bring the whole family by the library to sign up for one of our Summer Reading programs. Summer also means the return of our story times. They will be held every Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm. starting on June 2. Don’t forget your school summer reading assignments. We have many of the books you will need, available and what we don’t have we can order for you. Welcome to our two new Friends’ officers. Susan Levytsky-Shwayder has taken over as our President while Andy Goldstein takes over as Treasurer. A HUGE thank you to Martin Brown and Judy Meade who served for many years as our President and Treasurer. Their efforts are greatly appreciated.

Get Groovy with Pete the Cat Saturday, September 19, 2:00 pm. !We will be celebrating all things Pete the Cat. We will read about Pete, make Pete crafts and have a Pete snack. Most importantly, Pete the Cat will make a special appearance at the end of the program.

Randy Kaplan Sings @ Franklin Public Library Thursday, July 16, 7:00 pm. !Join us again this year as we welcome the ever popular children's musician Randy Kaplan! Noted for his children's CDs; Jam on Rye, and Mr. Diddle Wah Diddle, Randy gives a lively performance enjoyable to children and families of all ages.  Please register.

Superhero Party!Thursday, June 25, 7:00 pm. !Join us as we celebrate our Summer Reading theme with a celebration of all things superhero.  Come dressed as your favorite super hero (or villain!)  We'll explore some of our many superhero books in the collection, do some crafts and have a superhero snack.  Registration is required.

Exotic Animals @ Franklin Public Library Saturday, May 30, 2:00 pm. !Once again a Science Alive! biologist will be here at the Franklin Public Library along with a collection of exotic critters.  You will learn all about the animals and have an opportunity for hands-on contact with live animals.  This program is perfect for the whole family.  Registration is required.
