We are closed Friday, July 3

TIMES: SCHOOL HOURS 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Please do not drop off students before 7:30 a.m.

Camps until 6:30 p.m.

WHO MAY ATTEND?

Enrollment is co-ed and is open to students entering 7th through 12th grades (exceptions are noted).

Students from other high schools should verify the transfer credit guidelines with their guidance counselors PRIOR

to enrolling in a course at St. Francis High School.

Students from other high schools must provide a signature from their school administration verifying they are in

good standing with their school.

Each class requires a minimum enrollment of 10 students.

Students may enroll in up to four (4) courses.

Enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

PAYMENTS

Payment in full is due at the time of registration.

A $25.00 late fee will be assessed on applications received after June 15.

Registration for all Camps is SEPARATE.

Please write SEPARATE checks for any of the Camps.

Designate “Basketball”, “Fr. Football”, “JV Football”, “Varsity Football”, “ Lacrosse “, “Soccer”, or

Volleyball”, Camp.

REFUNDS

If a student withdraws within 7 days prior to class starting, written notification from the parent is required and

only a 50% refund will be given.

No refunds will be given after the first week of classes.

A full refund of tuition will be given for any class which is canceled due to insufficient enrollment.

HOW TO REGISTER

Online Registration begins March 1, 2019.

Go to www.sfhs.net/summerschool

Students will not be registered until all forms have been COMPLETED and fees have been paid.

Any registration after June 8 must be done in person.

Schedules will be emailed to all registered students on June 16.

ATTENDANCE

Students are expected to attend every class.

Students who miss more than five (5) hours of instruction may not receive credit. Petitions for students to miss

more than 5 hours must be filed with the Summer Session Director no later than June 15.

A parent must report an absence as early as possible each day by calling

(818) 790-0325. A student must bring a note on the day he/she returns.

Excessive absences or failure to clear an absence may result in dismissal with no refund.

St. Francis maintains a closed campus. Students may not leave campus

between classes.

DRESS CODE

Dress is casual in summer.

Students may wear shorts, casual pants and t-shirts.

Cut-off shorts or shirts, tank tops, inappropriate t-shirt insignia, thongs/sandals, gang-style or sloppy clothing are

NOT acceptable. A student’s mid-section MUST be covered.

Final decisions regarding attire rest with the Director.

More specific information will be sent with your schedule.

FOOD/BEVERAGES

Food and drinks will be available from the cafeteria.

REPORT CARDS / GRADE REPORTS

Mid-session reports will be mailed home on July 9.

Final grades will be mailed July 29 to other schools for students in the High School program who regularly attend

other schools.*

Junior High School grades will not be forwarded to schools unless a specific, written request is made.

*There is a $5.00 fee for all transcript requests after August 1, 2020.

ADMISSION AFTER SUMMER SCHOOL

Any student whose admission or readmission to St. Francis depends upon his performance will be notified after the

session ends.

St. Francis Summer Session policies will be emailed in a letter to parents in the June 16 mailing.

This course is a summary of basic junior high English concepts, including grammar and writing, with emphasis on

the individual needs of each student.

Tuition: $300 JR HIGH SPORTS MEDICINE # F4 Students will be introduced to basic human anatomy/physiology, first aid, and basic medical skills as well an introduction to sports medicine and related professions within the healthcare field (such as, Physician, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupation Therapy, Athletic Training, etc.). Students will also participate in healthcare style labs.

STRENGTH/CONDITIONING # F7 Open to 6th, 7th, 8th graders, this course will focus on flexibility, speed mechanics, coordination, and injury prevention.

Students will learn how to lift weights with appropriate technique and learn the appropriate strength techniques for

specific sports. Supervised by the St. Francis Strength and Conditioning Coach. Note: Physical Required prior to enrollment

ADOBE PHOTO SHOP # T1 This course teaches the basic concepts of digital artistry and graphics editing. Students will learn principles of

multimedia art, photo editing, and graphic design. The class will include individual and group projects.

LEADERSHIP # F9

This course is designed to help students enhance their leadership skills. The class will focus on 10 areas, of leadership

development: Vision, Integrity, Innovativeness, Wise Judgment, Service Mindedness, Goal Processing, Skill

Assessment, Emotional Maturity, Fostering Relationships and Masterful Communication. The class will include

leadership concepts, ideas and activities, and challenge the students engage their positive leadership more passionately

and purposefully. Periods 3 Tuition: $300 CSI: FORENSIC SCIENCE #JH10 Become a crime scene investigator! This course is designed to give students hands-on experience in the science lab solving realistic crime scene scenarios using actual forensic techniques. Activities will include forensic photography, glass fragment analysis, analyses of blood and skeletal remains, identifying trace substances, developing latent fingerprints, identifying forgeries, forensic entomology, DNA fingerprinting, and ballistics. The course will culminate in a “Who done it” mock trial using student analyses of evidence gathered from a simulated crime scene. Periods 1 or 2 Tuition: $300 CREATIVE WRITING #JH 11 Hands-on, collaborative course taught by a teacher who has worked professionally in the arts. Course will be broken up into three units - short stories, film and poetry. Students will gain an introduction of each form with time to develop their own stories and workshop their material with the class. Students will also have opportunities for group as well as one-on-one feedback. Periods 2 or 3 Tuition: $300

ROBOTICS # T3

A hands-on workshop where students will learn to design, build, and program a working robot. No prior experience

with robots or programming is required.

3D MODELING AND PRINTING

#T2

Students will learn how to 3D model with TinkerCAD and a web-based version of the industry standard AutoDeck

CAD software. Students will learn how to operate the 3D slicer software CURA to prepare 3D models for

printing. Using a Monoprice Maker FDM 3D printer, students will complete the product design process by

prototyping their own designs.

MYTHBUSTERS #T7

Modeled after the popular television series, students will tackle some of the most common urban legends and bust

up some of nature's biggest myths. At the end of each exciting day, tools and technology will be used to decide

what is fact or fiction!

SHARK TANK #T5

Students become young entrepreneurs as they build a product/business and take it through the entire

entrepreneurial procedure. Students will create a business plan,

commercial, and sales pitch for their product, while developing a variety of skills. A fun way to get students excited

about business and entrepreneurship.

CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH

This is a full-immersion Spanish class, focusing on every day, practical communication. Emphasis will be placed on

human interactions - mock interviews, debates, and conversations to enhance students’ presentational, interpretive,

and inter-personal skill set. Topics will include greetings, cultural celebrations, art, current events, and careers. It is

recommended that students have completed at least two years of Spanish.

This course is a review of basic mathematic principles needed for success in Algebra 1, including a review of fractions, decimals, basic computation, and percentages. Periods 1, 3, or 4 Tuition: $300

STUDY SKILLS/ READING IMPROVEMENT # F2 (READING Requirement)

This course will assist students in goal setting, note-taking, and test strategies, and prepare students to improve their reading comprehension. St. Francis Summer Reading books will be used.

Periods 1, 2, 3, or 4 Tuition: $300 WRITING FUNDAMENTALS # F3 (LANGUAGE Requirement)

Designed for students who require assistance in Language Fundamentals, this course will summarize grammatical concepts and assist students in developing their composition skills. Periods 1, 2, 3, or 4 Tuition: $300

HIGH SCHOOL STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING

This course will teach incoming freshmen who plan on participating in any sport at St. Francis the techniques and Olympic

lifts that are the basis for the school’s strength and conditioning program. It will include lessons in power/hang cleans,

bench press, back squats, plyometrics, core strength and circuit training.

Periods 3 Tuition: $300 STIMULATING MIND & BODY THROUGH E SPORTS #F10 E Sports is undeniably popular as a digital platform for interaction and entertainment that encourages communication and coordination amongst student athletes. By playing games, students are able to deepen their levels of interaction and communicate more effectively, readying them for later life. Students will play a variation of games throughout the class, both individual and team games that develop teamwork, strategy and communication. Each class will also engage in physical activity for 60 minutes each week to keep students active throughout the class. All students will be required to bring an iPad (generation 6 or better) with ability to download Apps through the Apple App Store. No additional purchases that involve costs will be necessary for games/class. All downloaded games will be free versions. Periods 2 or 3 Tuition: $300

STUDY SKILLS FOR RISING SOPHOMORES

If you struggle keeping up with your homework, studying effectively for tests, organizing your materials, or taking

notes in class, this class may be for you. You will learn about executive functioning skills, and how you can work

more efficiently. We will prepare for some of the sophomore year projects, such as the summer reading for English

and the Biology Research paper. We will practice skills such as planning/prioritization, initiating tasks, sustaining

attention, and many more, in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

INTRODUCTION TO THE ARTS B;

1 SEMESTER (5 CREDITS)

for rising juniors and seniors #W1 This course is a continuation of Introduction to the Arts A, the sophomore-year course that focuses on theater/drama.

Together, Introduction to the Arts A and B satisfy the University of California/California State University yearlong visual

and performing arts requirement.

Introduction to the Arts B will focus on the visual arts. This course will provide students with an appreciation for the visual

arts by providing them with an overview of art history, an understanding of a variety of artistic mediums, opportunities to

visit Art Museums, listen to professional artists, guest speakers, and the study of film as artistic expression. The class will

meet from 8:00 a.m. until 12:55 p.m. from June 24- to July 10)

HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM

COLLEGE BOOT CAMP FOR

RISING SENIORS (2020) #W2

PLEASE NOTE SPECIAL DATES

(SEMINAR June 15-18) College boot camp will give students a jump start on the college admissions process. We will discuss how to utilize resources

such as Naviance, Collegeboard, Fiske Guide, etc. Students will spend time on various types of college applications

(UC/CSU/Common Application) and discuss the different types of application deadlines (EA/ED/Priority/ Regular). They

will begin their personal statement/insight questions, participate in mock interviews and hear from guest speakers. They will

learn about various types of financial aid and the process of applying for financial aid. By the end of the program students

will have prepared a resume, complete at least one “Request for Teacher Letter of Recommendation” form, completed their

College Planning Survey, and created a working College list. 9:00 a.m. - Noon

PRE-GEOMETRY # E6

Students will learn basic skills that will assure more success in Geometry.

JUNE 24 - JULY 2 This two-week course covers expectations for writing a college admission essay. At the end of the program, students

will have an essay ready for submission to the institution of their choice. We will cover Loyola Marymount

University, University of California, and Common Application essay prompts. Period 4 Tuition: $300

INTRODUCTION TO JAVA PROGRAMMING An introduction to computer science using Java to solve problems and create programs. Students will learn oriented

programming technique, write many programs implementing algorithm development using variables of different

data types, including objects of their own design. Topics including decision making, iterations and arrays will be

included. This course is an excellent companion piece to those students enrolling in AP Computer Science A in the

fall

PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUES (ONLINE) This course is an introduction to the changing public health environment. This course will identify and explore

historical, theoretical, and practical issues in the field of public health. The course enables students to identify and

analyze important public health issues with various health settings. This course is intended to enrich the student’s

understanding of the evolution of public health-related ideas, health institutions, and health practices. Period $300

BASKETBALL CAMP June 22 - July 10

Cost: $300 per camper SFHS Hoops Camp will be a three-week long camp specializing in improving basketball skills. The three-week long

camp will be hosted by the St. Francis Coaching Staff to provide a fun filled camp each day for 4th - 9th graders.

The weeks will be broken down into games, skill sessions and other basketball related activities throughout the

weeks. Our goal is to improve the overall basketball player of your son or daughter. Any further questions, please

email [email protected] FOOTBALL CAMP June 22 - July 23 Tuition: $325 Freshmen: Mon-Thurs 1:30-3:30 pm Freshmen football camp is in preparation for the upcoming football season. Student-athletes will learn football drills, the St. Francis offense, defense, and special teams. Freshmen are also encouraged to sigh up for Coach Corcoran’s 4th period Strength and Conditioning class. Junior Varsity & Varsity: Monday-Friday, 6:00-9:00 am (some evenings for 7 on 7 passing games) Summer Camp is mandatory for JV and Varsity football players. All camp participants will need to purchase St.

Francis Football T-shirts/shorts once online store becomes available SOCCER CAMP July 27 - July 31 Cost: $185 Open to males & females, ages 6 through high school. St. Francis

Summer Soccer Camp will include physical and skill work and assessment, small group and team tactics, and indoor

and outdoor games. Camp will include fieldwork, classroom sessions (with film), and indoor games. Includes a t-shirt

Cost: $85 Introduction to volleyball skills at the intro to high school level. Individual and team practice drills, learning of technics and game strategy for an elevated level of play. Help develop an interest in volleyball for competition and fun.

LACROSSE CAMP

June 22 - June 26

Cost: $150

8 A.M. - 12 P.M.

Youth and High School players are invited to campus to work on skills, play games and improve their lacrosse

acumen in a fun and fast paced environment.

St. Francis students will be held

9:30 - 11:00 a.m. Junior/Seniors

8:00 - 9:30 a.m. Frosh/Soph

NON ST. FRANCIS STUDENTS MUST PROVIDE

PROOF OF CURRENT PHYSICAL.

CIF requires students to have an annual physical BEFORE competing/trying

out for any sport. Students must take a physical to participate in summer

camps. The physical is good for the entire 2020-2021 school year. If you wish

to use your own physician, you MUST pick up our St. Francis

pre-participation medical forms at the front desk.
