On Tuesday-Thursday, June 1-3, 6:30-9:00 pm nightly, Dr. Michael Woods will conduct a Sermon Development/Preaching Workshop at Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church. Greater Piney Grove is at 1879 Glenwood Ave. SE Atlanta, Georgia 30316; at I-20. For the past 20 years the church has been under the leadership of Dr. William Flippin, Sr. The instruction of this Workshop will take your teaching and preaching ministry to another level. The manual for this Workshop will be Dr. Woods’ book entitled, “Transformational Preaching.” It costs $20.00 and below is the Sermon Development Guide contained in it that will be presented during the three evenings of instruction.

On Thursday, April 15, the MWE School of Ministry was blessed to begin offering classes at a new location in South DeKalb County. Bishop Lee Anthony Norwood and High Praise Christian Center at 2418 Panola Road opened their doors and their hearts to the MWE School. 20 persons are enrolled in the class Old Testament Survey. With classes already being offered at Fairfield Baptist Church and Big Miller Grove Baptist Church, this new opening allows the MWE School to offer a wider variety of courses in a central location, due to the close proximity of these three churches. On Saturday, May 8, the First Norman Grove Baptist Church celebrated the 30th year of service of their senior pastor, Rev. Eddie L. Ellison, Sr. The gala affair took place on the 25th floor of the Marriott Renaissance Hotel in downtown Atlanta. Bishop Miles E. Fowler gave the Words of Inspiration, Dr. Woods gave Words of Tribute and numerous persons gave words of encouragement, including Rev. Ellison’s son, Eddie L. Ellison, Jr. The celebration was well-attended by the Norman Grove Family and by many pastors and ministers from the metro area.

Katie Washington

The University of Notre Dame’s First Black Valedictorian

In the 161 years the University of Notre Dame has been awarding degrees, never had there been an African-American as valedictorian until Katie Washington. She is from Gary, Indiana and is this year’s honoree. Katie carries a 4.0 GPA, majoring in biology and minoring in Catholic social teaching. She will continue her studies at Johns Hopkins University and follow in her father’s footsteps, in the medical field, by pursuing the Medical Doctor and P.HD simultaneously. Katie will present the valedictory address during Commencement exercises on Sunday, May 16 in Notre Dame stadium. During her studies, she has conducted research on lung cancer at the Cold Spring Harbor Labs and performed genetic studies in the University’s Eck Institute for Global Health on the mosquito that carries dengue and yellow fever. She is the co-author of a research paper with David Severson, distinguished professor of biological sciences. In addition, Katie directs the Voices of Faith Gospel Choir at Notre Dame, is a mentor/tutor for the Sister-to-Sister program at South Bend’s Washington High School and serves as the student coordinator of the Center for Social Concerns’ “Lives in the Balance: Youth Violence and Society Seminar.” What an awesome accomplishment and what a historical moment. We wonder why this has not received more national media attention? Please share this with others.

On Monday, February 7, 2011, Dr. Woods will travel to the land of Israel

with another group of ministers on a life-changing tour of the Holy Land.

This pilgrimage will be educational and transformative. It will also include a

worship service in Jerusalem on the 2nd Sunday of February and will end with an arrival back home on Monday, February 14. Some ministers will be

accompanied by their spouses, as they trace the footsteps of Elijah, Peter,

and others of the Bible and they will especially walk the same paths and

roads Jesus walked. Following are the costs and a Payment Plan is available.

Base Cost for Ordained Minister: $1600.00

Base Cost for Spouse of Ordained Minister: $1800.00

Additional Costs:

� Round trip air fare from your home airport to and from New York

� $150.00 for all gratuities (airport, hotel, motor coach, etc.)
