Certification Preparation and

Professional Development

The Summer Teaching Institute at Washington Adventist University

(WAU) offers certification preparation courses for teachers seeking

certification or continuing education credits for certified teachers.

The program is designed to provide quality curricula for students

from diverse backgrounds and meets requirements for certification

with the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists and

the Maryland State Department of Education.

The summer sessions are organized to provide choices in meeting

personal and professional needs. Classes are offered online in three

sessions. During Session I students work independently throughout

the summer to complete an academic rich portfolio. Classes held

during Sessions II and III are completed in two weeks by means of

intensive online instruction.

purposes. The instructor works with the student on a one-to-one basis to

develop the designated components of the portfolio, incorporating the current

classroom experience. The goals and objectives meet the Maryland State

Department of Education and the North American Division of Seventh-day

Adventist standards for completing the specific course.

POLICIES AND TUITION Course load

Due to the intensive focus of the classes, students are advised to select a maximum of one to two classes per session.

Portfolio - Session I

$400 per course fee Portfolio guidelines will be provided once registration is complete and fees have been paid.

Sessions II & III
