The Heckscher Museum of Art has been bringing great art to Long Island since 1920. Located in Huntington’s Historic Heckscher Park, the Museum’s outstanding Per-manent Collection of more than 2,000 works is paired with a dynamic schedule of changing exhibitions and diverse public programs. A cultural treasure right here on Long Island.

On view now through August 10, 2014, Rhythm & Repetition in 20th-Century Art focuses on artists who use repeated shapes as a method to organize their compositions. Depicting natural, man-made, or purely abstract forms, these artists reveal the search for order that underlies the human ex-perience. Also on view, now through August 3, is Exposed: Eadweard Muybridge and the Study of Motion. Credited as the “father of the motion picture,” Eadweard Muy-bridge pioneered the study of human and animal motion in

time-lapse photography that documented the dynam-ics of ordinary, everyday movement. His work caused a sensation in artistic and scientific circles, helping spur the development of modern art and contributing to the science of biomechanics.

Opening on August 16 is the Long Island Biennial a juried exhibition that provides Long Island’s contemporary artists and filmmakers an opportunity to share their work with a broad public. This exhibition includes paintings, sculpture, photog-raphy, mixed media work, and works on paper. Partner Cinema Arts Centre will jury and screen film and video entries. Also opening on August 16 is Richard Gachot’s America. For more than 35 years, Richard Gachot has constructed witty sculptures from objects found on Long Island beaches, discarded in curbside trash bins, or long forgotten in attics and base-ments. This exhibition high-

lights the artist’s works on themes intrinsic to America’s identity and celebrates Rich-ard Gachot as the Museum’s 2014 Celebrate Achievement Benefit artist honoree.

The Museum’s array of exhibition related programs include: First Friday, Senior Second Wednesday, Heck-scher Family Hour, Voices & Visions Lecture Series, and Friday Gallery Talks, among others. A highlight of the summer for young artists is the Museum’s Summer visual arts workshops. Sum-mer Arts for children ages

12 to 15 years runs from August 18 through August 22. ArtSense, designed for children ages 7 to 12 years old, will be held August 25 through August 29. Sign up today and let your young artist end their summer with a burst of creativity.

Visit The Heckscher Museum of Art this summer and see what makes The Heckscher Museum a cultural corner-stone of the community. 2 Prime Avenue, Huntington, NY 11743. Visit us on line at www.heckscher.org or call 631.351.3250.
