Kindergarten Encourage your child to read as much as possible. Visit the library and join the summer reading program. Journal-let your child write about the events of the day throughout the summer! Let them help you write grocery lists or to-do lists. First Grade: Writing sentences with proper capitalization, punctuation, spacing and spelling. Reading chapter books and remembering to summarize what they have read after each chap- ter. Adding and sub- tracting fluently within 20.
