Lana Del Rey- Summertime SadnessThe Song that we decided to use was Summertime Sadness, by Lana

Del Rey. Her genre is Indie/Pop. We decided to choose Lana Del Rey as an artist because, we like the style of her music videos and we found that her songs always seem to have a meaning behind the

lyrics. Originally we both liked the genre of Pop and Indie, so we

researched some artists that had both of these genres, which is where we came across Lana Del Rey to fit both of our needs.

The target audience of our video is Adolescence. We chose this because we felt as if our artist targets this age of audience, and also because we are adolescents ourselves we thought that it would give us a wider range of options. We will try and target adolescents by

using colourful filters throughout our video, as bright colours usually attract young people as they are visually effective. We will also try

and target them by using dramatic media makeup as this will attract out audience more, because its now very fashionable for festival

looks.

A red dress is iconic for Lana Del Rey because usually this is the colour that she wears at parties/award ceremonies. Red usually resembles love, so it is iconic that the song is about memories of her lover. We will incorporate this verse by ironically wearing a red dress in the pale moonlight, where she will be dolled up, to show that she is trying to get over him as he has died.

From this line we can see that she was afraid to risk her life because she had someone to live for but now her lover has left her, she doesn’t care for her life and feels fearless.

From this line we can see that Lana is feeling a sense of relief. Usually you wear heels to a

party event, and by the end of the night your feet are exhausted so you take your heels off to

feel free. You can see that she feels relieved and her heels are a representative for her lover.

From verse 2, we can tell from this that Lana feels it doesn’t matter if she lives or dies, as she feels as if she was killed when her lover died. If it meant that she had to die in order to be with her lover then she would go happily to heaven with him.

From Verse 3, we can see that this is a metaphor for how much she misses her lover. She refers to him as the stars because the stars never see the sun, like she will never see him.

We have chose, American Horror Story- Coven as our inspiration for our music video because we liked the colour/filter that they used when filming, as it has an eerie feel to it.Also the image to the right, second down, has inspired us to use the shadows on the face, as you have seen from our mood board. Another reason why we chose this program because the editing that is used, such as jump cuts, tilts and is a mix of fast and slow shots.They also add in different lighting filters and flashing lights (when transitioning to another shot) to give the shots different colours depending on the mood.In this clip we can see that filters have been added to make the program seem as if it was filmed in the old days.
