From Survive to Thrive – Bridging the Academic TransitionWhether it is transitioning into kindergarten or transitioning from high school to college, an academic transition is a big moment in a student’s life! While it is an exciting milestone, it can also be a time of stress and anxiety due to many known and unknown changes. We want to prepare each student for the road ahead by providing them coping skills, mind-fulness based techniques, and self-esteem activities to ensure that they have the resilience and confidence to successfully navigate the stress and anxiety associated with each transition.

DBT Skills ClassesDBT is a treatment for complex and challenging mental disorders that involve emotional dysregulation, such as dual diagnoses, PTSD, eating disorders, suicidal and self-harm behaviors, severe mood disorders, and treatment resistant depression. Clients with these disorders often have great difficulty managing the emotional and relational crises of their lives because they lack the needed behavioral coping skills.Weekly DBT skills training groups are didactic groups that use a step-by-step format to teach four sets of skills: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance.

• Mindfulness: The ability to take control of your mind instead of having your mind control you. Mindfulness helps direct your atten-tion through the process of observing, describing and participating from a nonjudgmental perspective. This allows for more objective, effective, and meaningful experiences in the here and now.

• Interpersonal Effectiveness: The ability to communicate and express yourself effectively while maintaining an understanding and a commitment to your objectives, your relationship to the person(s) and your self-respect.

• Emotion Regulation: The ability to regulate your emotions by understanding the relationship between thoughts, feelings, body sensations and behaviors. As well as, being aware of vulnerability factors related to emotional states such as; adequate sleep, balanced eating, appropriate medication usage, self-care, exercise and incor-porating positive experiences in your daily life.

• Distress Tolerance: The ability to get through an already difficult time without making it worse. Self-destructive behaviors are often a result of ineffective ways of dealing with painful emotions. Distress tolerance teaches the use of distraction, radical acceptance and pros/cons as alternatives.

Life at the SummitWhatever your background or age/stage of life might be, we are here to walk with you through life’s journey. We foster a safe, confidential environment in which lives are reclaimed, relationships are restored and hope is renewed.

Kids & Teens at the SummitADHD Screening (Brief)Offered at a fraction of the cost of comprehensive psychoeducational testing. Based on the screening results, our psychologist makes recom-mendations to parents regarding the possible need for: additional psy-choeducational testing, counseling, tutoring, behavioral modifications, and/or other therapy.

Testing & Assessments (Comprehensive)Parents of children who are struggling academically often need help un-derstanding why their children are having difficulty in school, and what to do about it. Comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations for chil-dren, adolescents, and young adults are available.

Play (& Recreational) TherapyThis therapy builds on a natural approach, where children and teens learn about themselves and the relationships around them. Through play therapy (younger children) and recreational activities (older chil-dren & teens), young people communicate more freely, express feelings, modify behavior, develop problem-solving skills, and learn a variety of healthy ways to relate to others.

Parent Coaching (Filial Therapy)This popular, evidenced-based parent training program equips parents to incorporate many of the same skills used by play therapists to help their children experience healing and growth.

Transitions at theSummit Grief & TraumaJust as seasons are a natural part of each calendar year, change is also a part of the fabric of every life. Life’s passages and turning points, both great and small, present us with very real mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual challenges that are well served by coaching, counseling, and therapy. That’s where we can help. If you are tired of feeling al one and isolated in your situation, hurt that those closest to you don’t understand, find it hard to sort out all your thoughts and feelings, ex-perienced a traumatic experience…then you’ve come to the right place. EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing)

EMDR is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences (PTSD). Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. The mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma.

Couples at the SummitPrepare & Enrich (Pre-Marital or Marriage Counseling)This is a customized couples’ assessment that identifies both strength and growth areas. Your therapist will help you discuss and understand the results and teach proven relationship skills.

Marriage AssessmentsThis comprehensive evaluation of the dynamics of a marriage relation-ship uses an approach based on the ground-breaking research of John Gottman, Ph.D. Our therapists conduct comprehensive interviews with couples and provide verbal feedback, a written report, and a recom-mended plan for Marital Therapy.

Discernment CounselingProvides couples in distress with better options than splitting up or staying together in misery or unhappiness. This evidenced-based model of tailored and focused treatment provides greater opportu-nity for success, even with the most serious of relationship crisis.

Recovery at the SummitAssessments & TreatmentProvides assessments, screenings, treatment, training, supervision and consultation for individuals, churches, and treatment organizations to help recovery outcomes become more effective. The goal is to find ways to help persons caught in the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual traps of addiction find new freedom, health, and wholeness.

Alternative SentencingThese services support alternatives to incarceration or extended court supervision. Those who are assessed as appropriate and willing are able to obtain a plan to work with the legal system.

Family InterventionWhen substance abuse or behavioral addictions develop, families can learn how to intervene in the process. The earlier families can address inappropriate or unhealthy behaviors, the better the outcomes for ev-eryone involved – the less intensive the counseling and the less expen-sive are the services.

Testing & MonitoringThese services are provided on site at the Summit and include a com-prehensive cross-section of substances, including the latest synthetic cannabis recently declared illegal in Georgia. The services are valuable for anyone seeking reliable information about their own or another individual’s chemical health.
