Talent Show: Brave the Stage Storms. Public speaking. Mean dogs. Or maybe a dark room with-out a night light. Everyone is afraid of something. Fear can also hold us back from doing something we know is right. We might be afraid of what might happen, or afraid of what others might think. When we have to face our fears, that’s when we can lean on God to give us courage. He makes us brave. He helps us do what we should do, even when we’re afraid.
Throughout our lives, God may ask us to take risks or do some-thing we may not feel prepared to do. But God will also give us the courage we need to face that challenge. We see this as Jesus faced death on the cross. He chose to be brave and follow through on God’s plan.
In October, our children’s ministry team will be discussing with our kids the importance of COURAGE: Being brave enough to do what you should do, even when you’re afraid.
The children will be learning more about trust by way of the following Bible stories:
• Moses is Born: You can do what you should, even when you don’t know what will happen next. Exodus 2:1-10 (supporting: Exodus 1)
• Moses and the Burning Bush / The 10 Plagues: You can do what you should, even when you don’t feel ready. Exodus 3-6:12, 7-12:42
• Israel Goes Through the Red Sea: You can do what you should, even when things seem impossible. Exodus 13:17-14:31 Twelve Men Check Out the Land of Canaan: You can do what you should, even when others are afraid.
Numbers 13-14 (Adapted from thinkorange.com)
“BE STRONG AND BRAVE. DO NOT BE AFRAID. DO NOT LOSE HOPE. I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD. I WILL BE WITH YOU EVERYWHERE YOU GO.” Joshua 1:9

ARE YOU USING YOUR GOD GIVEN TALENTS?? In our church, we worship God and celebrate His prescence through music. Please think about using your talent by singing in our choir for the church cantata. We would welcome you to join us in “making joyful noise un-to the Lord!” Our practice is each Sunday morning at 8:30 AM starting October 20th through December 15th. We invite you to an evening of food, fellowship, and singing Monday evening October 14th. If you have not previously been a part of our cantata choir and would love to join us, please call me (674-3816) for time and place. I feel most certain that you would enjoy serving God and our church by “joyfully singing” with us.

On October 2, a group of you will begin a 6-week journey by participating in the Momentum for Life study. Over the course of the study we will define simple, practical, and biblical practices for sustaining physical health, personal integrity and strategic focus. All of us dream about using the many opportunities we have to influence peo-ple in our community for God’s purposes. We know that through God’s Spirit we can make lasting contributions that can benefit the wellbeing of others. But, having a dream and having the disciplined, lifelong dedication to realize that dream are two different things. It’s easy to make a commitment, but keeping that commitment for life is another matter. Most good things don’t happen magically or suddenly. They happen only by the grace of God. They are the result of a predetermined desire, an ongoing commit-ment to build momentum for life. Faith is not an instant realization of our desired future. Nothing worthwhile can be acquired at once. Many of us, young and old have dreams of walking closely with God and mak-ing a difference in the world. Often, we become tempted by distractions and we compromise spiritual momentum to pursue secular achievement. We settle for lesser dreams. God wants so much more! God wants to build lifelong momentum toward what we were created to become. Instead of climbing to new heights, too many of us plateau when we meet re-sistance. It doesn’t have to be that way. God wants to win the battle for the soul of the world, and it begins for each of us with the management of the world inside our-selves and inside of our churches. May each one of us make gaining and sustaining Momentum for Life a priority. “Don’t you know that all the runners in the stadium run, but only one gets the prize?” (1 Corinthians 9:24) His…. Yours,
Pastor Quita
