justice. This study is created by ELCA World Hunger.

Faith at Home – Activities for Lent
Sign up for a daily Lenten email devotion from
ELCA World Hunger at www.elca.org/40days Thank you for your interest in receiving a daily devotion as part of
ELCA World Hunger’s 40 Days of Giving. Each day of Lent you will
receive an email from ELCA World Hunger ([email protected]).
During Lent, we will journey together, encountering the living God in
the midst of hunger and poverty. Each week will follow the lectionary
and each day will offer scripture, questions, reflections, art, prayers or
connections to our church’s commitment to pursing a just world where
all are fed.
How to use the Photo-a-day
challenge?
Each day, take a photo that is
inspired by the word for the
day. Help spread beauty and
wonder in this world by shar-
ing your photos on social me-
dia. Use hashtag #oslc40days.
If you are not on social media,
you can still be inspired by the
word of the day. Simply look
at the word in the morning
and spend some time meditat-
ing on it. Wonder: What is
God telling me through this
word?
Faith Rocks
A cairn is a pile of rocks, often left by hikers, to show the path on a trail. During our Wednesday Lenten
Worship, we will explore our “cairns” of our faith – those things that help guide us along our journey of faith,
such as the 10 Commandments, the Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, Baptism, and Holy Communion. Our evenings
begin with a simple soup meal (free will donation) from 5:30-6:30. Thanks to those who have volunteered to
make soup, we won’t be having “stone soup.” Then, we’ll gather at 6:30 for a worship, singing Lent hymns,
hearing a message, and receiving Holy Communion. These Wednesday nights are a favorite time of gathering
for our congregation. If you haven’t come in the past, we hope you’ll come this year – and be encouraged in
your faith.
5:30pm-6:30pm – Simple Soup Supper
6:30pm – Worship with Holy Communion
March 1 – Ash Wednesday
March 8 – Rock of Rules
March 15 –Rock of Reinforcement
March 22 – Rock of Refuge
March 29 – Rock of Rescue
April 5 – Rock of Reconciliation
Women of Our Saviors News
The warmer temps of late make me hope that Spring is around the corner. That also means that it is time to do some
spring housecleaning! So when you have those household and decorating items that you are no longer needing, remem-
ber, things that you may not want anymore are another persons "treasure"! The Women of Our Saviors Bake, Quilt and
Treasure Sale will be Saturday, April 29 beginning at 8:30am. As in the past, we are looking for Holiday decorations,
household, decorating, purses, jewelry, no adult clothing but children's clothing and toys are always good sellers.
Save the Date for these Women of Our Saviors Events:
April 29---Bake, Quilt and Treasure Sale---8:30--11:00
May 6-----Spring WELCA Cluster meeting----Trinity Lutheran in Jamestown
May 20----Spring Luncheon of Faith, Trinity, and Our Saviors women held at Our Saviors this year. Watch for details
of program but put the date on your calendars.
A reminder of the TRIENNIAL CONVENTION OF WOMEN OF ELCA in Minneapolis in July.
Our Women of Our Saviors is offering a grant to help with registration and there are transportation opportunities avail-
able. You can contact me, Jan Stowman at
[email protected] or at 701-840-1808 if you want more information about the convention or any of the
events coming up this spring.
God's Blessings to You,

From Pastor Randy…
Lent is no longer right around the corner – it’s here! Beginning on Ash Wednesday, March 1 and through
Wednesday, April 5 the people of God at Our Savior’s gather for a soup meal (free-will donation) from 5:30-
6:30PM and worship/Holy Communion at 6:30PM. Thank you to those who’re providing the soup and assist-
ing at worship each week. As we gather together at these mid-week services and on Sunday morning – we
grow in faith, love and obedience to the will of God.
During the forty days of Lent, some of you practice fasting, prayer and works of love. For some of you the
sign of ashes significantly reminds you of your mortality. Some of you make your way through Lent returning
to – longing for – God’s mercy and grace. All of you give thanks to God that through water and the Holy Spirit
you are given new birth, cleansed from sin and raised to eternal life. Each morning and evening, all of you may
mark the sign of the cross on your forehead and say, “Child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit
and marked with the cross of Christ forever.” While you may not break out in laughter – because it’s Lent and
you are Lutheran after all – such a promise may even make some of you smile!
I always appreciate the definition of Lent by Frederick Buechner: “During Lent Christians are supposed to ask
one way or another what it means to be themselves.
If you had to bet everything you have on whether there is a God or whether there isn’t, which side
would get your money and why?
When you look at your face in the mirror, what do you see in it that you most like and what do you see
in it that you most deplore?
If you had only one last message to leave to the handful of people who are most important to you, what
would it be in twenty-five words or less?
Of all the things you have done in your life, which is the one you would most like to undo? Which is the
one that makes you happiest to remember?
Is there any person in the world, or any cause, that, if circumstances called for it, you would be willing
to die for?
If this were the last day of your life, what would you do with it?
To hear yourself try to answer questions like these is to begin to hear something not only of who you are but of
both what you are becoming and what you are failing to become. It can be pretty depressing business after all,
but if sackcloth and ashes are at the start of it, something like Easter may be at the end.” – Whistling in the
Dark – A Doubter’s Dictionary
