The older I get, the more often I need to be reminded of things like a deadline, an appointment etc. But as a Christian, the scriptures call for us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind . . .or re- mind. (Romans 12:1,2) Occasionally this need arises during worship. My mind is on something I need to do, a person I want to speak with or even an event coming up. And all the while I am singing but have no idea what words I am singing. When I become aware of this, I pray that God will bring my mind into sub- jection. Then I think of what (and whom) I am singing about. What a difference! This is when true wor- ship takes place. This happens with both hymns and contemporary worship songs. There is Truth in both. Hymns like Amazing Grace and The Love of God resonate in our hearts of the grace and love of our Savior because of the saving and redemptive work He has done in our souls. The words to this worship song help us to stop and take time to revel in the awesomeness of God: “I stand, I stand in awe of You, I stand, I stand in awe of You, O God to whom all praise is due, I stand in awe of You.” Another one, very similar, says, “Lord, I'm amazed by You, Lord I'm amazed by You, Lord, I'm amazed by You, and how You love me.” When we really think of how much God loves us, how can we help but be blessed? The Bible tell us “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” NKJV Romans 8:5b “Those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.” NIV Romans 8:6b says, “the mind con- trolled by the Spirit is life and peace.” NIV God says in Matthew 22:37, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the greatest commandment in the Law. My hearts desire is to be pres- ent (not having a wondering mind) during worship so that my mind can take in all the glorious truths of my Savior who is “My Shield, my Strength, My Portion, Deliverer, my Shelter, Strong Tower, my very present help in time of need.” (Made Me Glad by Hillsong) 2 Anita’s & Ray’s Columns 3 Simon Lehman 4 Scrapbookers 5 BOD Retreat 6 Spring Clean Up 7 Special Events 8 Sunbeam Upgrade AR EMINDER TO R E - MIND In this issue: 8 www.roxburycamp.com A Ministry of the Brethren in Christ Church Sunbeam Center Upgrade! Special Events 2010

As I write this column,we are experiencingour fourth winter storm

with high winds and blowingsnow. But somewhere under allthis snow is the hope of spring. There are crocuses, daffodils andtulips just waiting for the warmthof a spring sun to make them pop

up and cheer us. I love flowersand enjoy seeing all the new budsturn to leaves and the flowersbloom in all their splendor.

This makes me think of thephrase, “Bloom where you areplanted.” God has put us here inour corner of the world to make adifference. His love shining onour hearts is what makes us cometo life and gives us hope. I thankGod for the life He has breathedinto my heart and life.

Today I will be get-ting an update onthe engineer's

progress on the Sunbeam Center. The snow has begun meltingaway and we are anxious to getstarted on this upgrade projectwhich will include a new trusssystem and roof, as well asenclosing the open sides.

This winter we have seensome of the highest snow drifts Ican remember after the high

winds moved the snow off theopen fields. All but one of ourscheduled guest groups were ableto follow through with theirplanned events before, after, orbetween snow storms! This pastweekend the Nazarene youthfrom Gaithersburg, Marylandenjoyed the snow as well as wor-ship and interaction in the BereanCenter.

Our attention is turningtoward spring and summer.

Clean-up days are scheduled forApril 16 & 17 and while we col-lected many leaves last fall, therewill be much grounds clean-updue to the strong winds we haveexperienced this winter.

Our annual ladies retreat,April 23-25 and Spring SeniorDay, May 11 are on the scheduleand we anticipate seeing some ofyou at these events!W

Each issue of Roxbury Ripplings will list items needed at Camp. Assistance in helping to obtain these items will enable us to con-tinue providing quality camp facilities at economical prices. If you have one of these items and would like to donate it or if youwould know where we might purchase an item at a reduced cost, please call J. Ray Heisey, Camp Administrator at 1-888-532-7256.Gifts to Roxbury Holiness Camp are income tax deductible and will be receipted.

A Tribute to Simon Lehman, Jr.Spring Clean Up – April 16-17, 2010

Simon Lehman will long be remembered as a friend, supporter and outspoken promoter of RoxburyHoliness Camp and as one of our dedicated leaders.

Si was always eager to help introduce new things, so he organized and led the first Teen Camp in1956 and continued as Teen Camp director or advisor until 1969.

He was a member of the Camp Meeting Commission; he preached at the camp, serving as evangelistin the evening services in 1964, 1974 and 1989; and he served as Assistant Director of the campmeeting for eleven years, from 1978 through 1989.

He brought to Roxbury Camp his love for the message of biblical holiness, his beaming smile andinfectious enthusiasm, his bold faith in God and his loud exclamations of, “Well, praise God!” Hewas keenly interested in the younger generations and would often remind the Program Commissionto be sure to involve young men and women in leadership.

The Board of Directors, the Camp Meeting Commission and the entire constituency of the Camp alljoin me in giving thanks to God for all the good that his servant “Brother Si” brought to RoxburyHoliness Camp.

Scrapbookers, Snow & Heroes Board of Directors Retreat

February 19-20, 2010

Eugene Wingert

Discussion

Dave Hershberger leadingworship

Many of us think of Roxbury as a place wherechurch related events occur but four times a yearit becomes the weekend home of a group ofwomen known as "scrapbookers!" They havecome to love Roxbury as a place where they cancomfortably gather with friends and work on ahobby that they love. This year's scrapbookingretreat had a little extra drama added to it

All seventy-five croppers arrived in time to enjoythe Blizzard of 2010 in the comforts of the ByersConference Center. Several women even stayedup all night to take photos of the snow as it piledup on their cars. The next day presented thebiggest challenge -getting all the vehicles of 75women shoveled out! That's where the heroesshow up in this story! Dale Winger and RayHeisey came to our rescue and spent the wholeday with a snow plow and a snow blower remov-ing the 22 inches of snow that had accumulated.

That night at dinner they received a standingovation and everyone's deepest appreciation forserving the group in this way. They were truly act-ing as Christian servants! A "little bit of snow"doesn't stop the Roxbury scrapbookers from hav-ing some fun. On Saturday night with the help ofLinda Winger and her capable staff, we were allserved a wonderful roast beef dinner in a beauti-fully decorated dining room that fit in with ourweekend "Black and White" theme. We all love thedelicious food that Roxbury serves and especiallyenjoyed the elegance of our candlelight dinner. We all have come to love the staff at Roxbury andso appreciate the way they help make theseweekends a special time for everyone!

Story and Photos by Cathy Miller

Eugene Wingert, former Executive Director at Kenbrook Bible Camp, served as presenter. The subject for discussionwas the difference between a “management” method and a “governance” method of operation for a board. In a manage-ment model a board spends its time receiving reports, supervising committees, and making specific decisions aboutoperation. In a governance model a board clarifies the end results it expects, and delegates management to an execu-tive director. The board then spends most of its time and energy in working on vision, possibilities and future direction. After prayer and thorough discussion, our Board of Directors took action to transition from being a management board tobeing a governance board. The Executive Committee will now propose to the Board the various steps to take to imple-ment this decision. If you are interested in further information about these developments, feel free to talk with any mem-ber of our Board. This process can take from six months to two years and we will keep our constituents up to date astime goes on.
