A Prayer for World Communion Sunday
Thank you, Jesus, for the opportunity to remember you
in the ordinary things of our lives.
When we eat our daily bread, rice, tortilla, or potato,
we remember how you shared what you had with your friends,
breaking yourself open.
When we drink from the fruits of our harvest,
we are reminded of how you continually bless us
with your teachings;
our chipped and well-used cups overflow.
Thank you, Jesus. Amen.
~ from Parables, Prayers, and Promises: Daily Devotions on Jesus (UCPH, 2016)
Ohio Public Health Advisory System for Hamilton County as of 10/1/2020: RED.
There will NOT be on-site, in-person worship on 10/4/2020.
Today is World Communion Sunday!
Communion will be available virtually on the link provided. We know this is not the
ideal way to be celebrating World Communion, but we encourage you to remember
that as Christians are scattered over the world, we will be united with them from our
own homes!

Re-Opening Modification
At a special called Council Session meeting, it was unanimously
decided to follow the Ohio Public Health Alert System in
determining whether or not we will be open that week for on-
site, in-person worship. When Hamilton County is Red or Purple
(level 3 or 4) we will NOT be having on-site, in-person worship
that week. However, if on Thursday Hamilton County is Orange
or Yellow, then we will be open for on-site worship that
following Sunday, WITH all of the same guidelines and
precautions sent out previously. You will still have to call or
email reservations in advance. If you make a reservation and
church will be closed due to being Red or Purple that week, you
will be contacted that we will not be holding services on Sunday.
We will continue pre recording our services for all of those who
choose to worship from their home, or in the instances when
Hamilton county is at higher risk of spread and exposure and we
are closed. We appreciate your patience. We will get through this!
Weekly Virtual Gathering! Due to Pastor Cherie’s Jury Duty there will be no Virtual
Gatherings on October 7th or October 14th.
Singing at SJWUC – Why the church has
decided to suspend singing – for now I wanted to take this opportunity to communicate with
the congregation about the church’s decision to suspend
choir and congregational singing during the COVID-19 crisis.
There is probably no more noticeable element missing from our
worship experience than that of communal singing, and all of us
truly miss the connection, inspiration, and spiritual uplift that
hymns, songs, and choir anthems bring to us during live worship.

Church Policy for Small Group Meetings Council Session adopted the following policy at their 8/19
meeting to address small group meetings. This policy
follows the color-coded system adopted for worship and
states: "if Hamilton county is orange or yellow, groups
may meet inside, following safety guidelines of wearing
masks, keeping social distancing, and restricting numbers to 25 in the
sanctuary, 10 in the Narthex, and 35 in Murphy Hall, but if Hamilton
county is red or purple, no groups may meet indoors."
Additional Guidelines:
“1. Food may not be served or shared. If Small groups involve food as
part of the meeting, individuals must bring their own food and utensils
and may remove their masks to eat, provided they are situated six feet
away from others, perform the necessary hand hygiene & replace their
masks when done eating.
2. There may not be any singing or playing of wind or brass
instruments.
3. Tables and chairs must be sanitized after use, using cleaning supplies
that the church will make available.”
World Communion Offering As part of our World Communion observance, we
will be receiving our Neighbors in Need and
The Peace & Global Witness Offering of
our denominations. These offerings support
the justice, compassion and peacemaking ministries
allowing us to stand in support of our global sisters
and brothers, because the peace of Christ belongs to
people everywhere. The offering will be divided equally between the
denominations and special envelopes were mailed this past week.
SJWUC Operation Christmas Child We’re looking forward to a great Operation Christmas Child season
as we prayerfully consider ways to modify our
collection and processing in light of COVID-19. We
are already monitoring local, state, and national
guidelines and making adjustments to help protect the
health of those involved in preparing shoebox gifts.
Our goal is 100 boxes - there are several EASY ways to participate:
