In conceiving this exhibition, Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour has anticipated a shifting landscape in which the art and design worlds are now profoundly inter-connected. With the

globalisation of the art scene and the proliferation of art fairs and biennales, collectors of design are becoming art collectors too. Designers are working with an increasingly sophisticated client base who appreciate that art is central to a dynamic interior, providing context and meaning that underpin decor and the paraphernalia of daily life. Many leading designers surround themselves with art, drawing inspiration from the pieces they live with and artworks they have seen around the world. Some have relationships with dealers and galleries, placing art in the interiors and gardens they design. Others are coming to the art world new, as their clients’ tastes develop. One thing is for sure: the days of filling our homes with fabulous furniture and cutting-edge design, but leaving the walls bare, are over.

With this in mind, 30 leading designers were asked to nominate artworks that have significance for them and Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour is proud to present its first on-site exhibition of painting, photography, sculpture and installation. Contributing designers include Alidad, Ashley Hicks, Audrey Carden, Bunny Turner, Chester Jones, David Collins Studio, David Mlinaric, Douglas Mackie, Eleanora Cunietti, Emma Pocock, Francis Sultana, Jinny Blom, Joanna Wood, Karen Howes, Scott Maddux, Kelly Wearstler, Kit Kemp, Mark Smith, Martin Brudinzki, Natalia Miyar, Neisha Crosland, Nina Campbell, Rabih Hage, Randle Siddeley, Robert Angell, Sophie Paterson, Terence Disdale, Wendy Nicholls, William Yeoward, as well as our two ‘voices from the art world,’ Tim Taylor and Pearl Lam.‘Art & Interiors at Focus/16’ is curated by Sophie Hastings, an arts writer and contributing editor at GQ.
