Sunday Bulletin Twenty seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time October 2, 2016
From Safari This week is the Annual Clergy Arrowwood Confer-ence. The focus of the conference is, “The Sacra-ment of Marriage and the Joy of Love.” As clergy, we will explore the pastoral proclamation of the Church's teaching regarding married love, the new rite of Holy Matrimony, preaching at the wedding liturgy, and the annulment procedures. The confer-ence runs from Sunday evening through Wednes-day morning.
This Sunday is desig-nated as Respect Life Sunday in the United States. Bringing an end to abortion is justi-fiably the lead issue. However, there are many other pro-life issues to consider: end-of-life care, medical ethics, people with dis-abilities, medical care for the poor, poverty, capital punishment, and global climate
change. It is important to know the issues and the church’s position.
As we defend the sacredness of all life, may we seek to take to heart the words of the writer of first Timothy, “For God did not give us a spirit of cow-ardice....so do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord,...but bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes from God.”
Have a peace filled week!
—Fr. Ron
SCHOOL NEWS
HOLY CROSS Next weekend we pack in a lot of fun! First, the students, staff and
families of Holy Cross will walk around Pearl Lake, celebrating
our faith and praying for your intentions. The walk starts at 9:00
a.m. on October 8th. Anyone who’d like to join us for the walk is
welcome to do so. To those of you who have donated, thank you!
For those of you that we haven’t gotten to yet, flag us down, we’ll
send a student your way! If you just need a flag made, give us a
call, we’ll have a student decorate a flag for you.
Then, on Sunday, October 9th, we’ll be helping at the Pearl Lake
Lodge for Rudy’s Annual Ride & Rib Fest! Sign up for the ride
starts at 11:00a.m. Even if you’re not going on the ride, you can
stop by for some delicious ribs.
We’re praying for beautiful weather on both days. We ask that
you do the same.
ST. WENDELIN How about a bit of trivia this week?
Did you know???
In 1861, settlers in Luxemburg worked with local authorities
to form the Luxemburg School District #36 calling it
The Luxemburg School.
The first teacher, Mr. Nicholas Hoffmann, had 16 students in
grades first through eighth.
The Benedictine Sisters arrived in Luxemburg in 1881 and
continued to education children here until 2013. Tune in next week to read more St. Wendelin School trivia.
Liturgy Lesson...Showing a bag of very small poppy seeds, Fr.
Ron referred to the day’s parable of the mustard seed, in which
Jesus used exaggeration to teach his point that faith can accomplish
powerful things. Likewise, by doing simple things like listening to
parents/teachers, getting along with others and trusting God, we
too, with the help of the Holy Spirit, can do great things for Jesus.
Just a reminder that this weekend, Oct. 1st
and 2nd,per request of Bishop Kettler, our
cluster parishes will be taking up a special
collection for our brothers and sisters in
Louisiana who have suffered recently from
severe flooding. Thank you for making
your check payable to the Diocese of St.
Cloud and marking it–FLOOD RELIEF.
“If you have faith,
the size of a mustard seed,
you would say
to this mulberry tree,
‘Be uprooted and planted
in the sea,’
and it would obey you.”

Feeding the Hungry...Back in the spring of 2012, Fr.
Mark Ostendorf organized a tri parish effort to serve the
Sunday evening meal at the Salvation Army in St. Cloud.
That effort has been going strong and eventually evolved
into each of our 3 parishes rotating to serve the meal on
the 2nd Sunday of every 3rd month. We are in need of
someone (or several people) to coordinate this for St.
Wendelin so this very worthy service can continue. For
more info, please call the parish office, 251-6944.
