Come let us bow down to Christ and worship Him the Son of God. Save

HYMN FOR THE FOREFEAST – FOURTH TONE

The River Jordan receded of old by the mantle of Elisha when Elijah

ascended into heaven; and the water was separated to this side and that,

the wet element turning into a dry path for Him, being truly a symbol of

Baptism, by which we cross the path of transient age. Christ appeared in

the Jordan to sanctify its waters.

crieth to John: Be not afraid and hesitate not to baptize Me, for I am come

to save Adam, the first-formed man.

Epistle Reading

St. Paul's Second Letter to Timothy 4:5-8

TIMOTHY, my son, always be steady, endure suffering, do the

work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry.

For I am already on the point of being sacrificed; the time of my

departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished

the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me

the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge,

will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all

who have loved his appearing.

Gospel Reading

Mark 1:1-8

The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is

written in Isaiah the prophet, 'Behold, I send my messenger before your

face, who shall prepare your way; the voice of one crying in the

wilderness: prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.' John

the baptizer appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of

repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And there went out to him all

the country of Judea, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were

baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John

was clothed with camel's hair, and had a leather girdle around his

waist, and ate locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying, "After

me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am

not worthy to stoop down and untie. I have baptized you with water;

but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."

Dear Holy Trinity Family

On behalf of my family and myself we wish you all a Blessed and

Happy New Year. It has been my honor and privilege to have served you in

2013 as your Parish Council President. Holy Trinity is such a special

community and holds a very special place in my heart. Together with God’s

leadership and guidance we can move forward into 2014 with great

excitement.

As president I have tried not to beat the financial drum so loudly that

we all just tune it out, but as we start the new year, and even more important

approach our 2015 hundred-year celebration, now is the time for me to play a

little tune. The board’s commitment for Holy Trinity becoming a 100%

stewardship-funded parish is as strong as ever and rooted in our desire to

fulfill Christ’s command to us to continue his Holy works. Think of the great

things we could do with our festival money if we knew the church’s expenses

were covered by stewardship.

I’m especially grateful to Harry Yianitsas for his tireless efforts as our

Stewardship Chairman in 2012 and 2013. We have all enjoyed his witty but

heartfelt writings on what stewardship is and how it is vital to the spiritual

health as well as the economic health of our Parish. Thank You Harry! It is with

incredible excitement that I announce the 2014 Campaign will be Co-Chaired

by Harry Yianitsas and Harry Tomasides. I strongly feel that this has become

such a large job that it needed another person and who better than another

Harry. Harry Tomasides has served this church in so many ways that what he

brings to the table is a keen insight into all aspects of Holy Trinity. We are truly

blessed to have these two dedicated Orthodox Christians to guide and

shepherd our 2014 Stewardship Campaign.

We have all had a time in our lives when we have called upon God and

Holy Trinity to guide us, comfort us, heal us, and ultimately save us. Holy

Trinity is calling on you; Christ is calling on you. Please respond to this calling

by letting Christ guide you to your 2014 Stewardship commitment.

In Christ’s Love

COMMUNITY LETTER FROM THE PARISH COUNCIL

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

We donned our party hats and sang Auld Lang Syne to welcome in another

year full of great hope. January promises to be a busy month. Starting with the

first Sunday of the month, Metropolitan Isaiah joins us for a Hierarchical

Divine Liturgy which will include the ordination of Deacon Peter Kostaskis to

the Holy Priesthood. Deacon Peter will become the fourteenth Assistant Priest

to serve our community. Axios!!

The following Parish Council members have completed their term. We would

like to thank each of them for sharing their gifts and leadership as beacons of

orthodoxy: Nic Carayannopoulos, Ellena Fox, George Karahal, Ari Rigopoulos

and Chris Stern.

In particular, we would like to recognize Dr. Nic Carayannopoulos in

completing his fifth six-year term for a total of 30 years of service to our

community, our longest serving Parish Council member. Thank you Nic for

your love and tireless devotion to our community. In our Parish Council

meetings you are a reservoir of knowledge about our community’s deep

history and an encyclopedia of knowledge on church bylaws. We hope your

example will serve as a model for others to serve our church.

We are pleased to welcome our newly elected members: Christina Hochleutner,

Peter Hronas, Wade Stephens, Kerry Tassopoulos and Tina Yampanis.

Congratulations! We look forward to your energy and fresh perspective that

you bring to the 2014/15 Parish Council. And finally, let us thank our returning

members who were reelected: Matt Naftis, Fotis Papanicolaou, Sam Paulos and

Alin Voicu. We thank you for your continued service.

One year from now we will begin a yearlong celebration of our 100th

Anniversary of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Dallas, Texas. Stay

tuned for more information that will be coming.

Did You Get Your Flu Shot? By Harry Yianitsas, Stewardship Chairman

It’s that time of year again! The flu is

flyin’. Many of us are just now taking

the time to consider an annual flu shot

for protection against whatever

particular strain of “flu bug” is going

around. We don’t have time to be sick,

right? We want to increase our

immunities, protect ourselves from

physical illness, and keep on keeping on

about our daily routines.

Sometimes I think our faith is like

that, too. Wouldn’t it be great if

someone could culture a “faith vaccine”

that would increase our faith, protect us

from evil, suffering, and despair, AND

transform us into “super Christians,” a

bold new strain of effective and efficient

disciples who can leap tall crosses in a

single bound while avoiding all

commitment and controversy in the

process? Yeah, right.

Our parish is blessed with many

wonderful people. We want to increase

our faith. We want to support our Holy

Trinity Parish, see worship attendance

and offerings grow, have a bunch of

programs available to nurture and serve

all demographic segments of the parish.

Yes, we want to be good stewards, but

we’d really like to have all of this on our

terms—with our desired level of

commitment, investment, and absence

of conflict. I wish it were that simple.

We like to be a part of the winning

team, but again we like to have some

control over the rules of the game. The

first century followers of Jesus were not

all that different. They were a mixed bag

of sacrifice and expectation, of bumbling

and goodness, and of faith and folly.

Yet, somehow they kept on following

Christ. Is our parish much different?

How did we do in 2013? Well….

We have just completed our 2013

Stewardship Program. Our parish

collected about 93% of our 2013 pledges

thanks to the commitment of its

stewards!

For 2013, the new Stewardship

Pledge cards have been sent out and you

should have received one by now. If not,

they are available in the pews or church

office. Please take a minute to fill out a

new card for 2014. A little like that flu shot,

the process may poke you as you

consider your pledge, but it is so

necessary for the health of your Church.

You see, your church doesn’t have time

to be sick either!

Please prayerfully consider your 2014

pledge, remembering our goal is to be

“100 X 100”. That is, to be a 100%

stewardship funded parish by our 100th

anniversary in 2015. Please do your part

by increasing your 2014 pledge. We

would like to have all of the 2014 pledge

cards completed and returned to the

church office before the end of January.

Take a moment to help your Church.

Happy New Year!
