Christ’s Ambassadors Youth Choir; John and Lisa Wilson, DirectorsHow deep the Father’s love for us, how vast beyond all measure, that He should give His only Son to make a wretch His treasure. How great the pain of searing loss; the Father turns His face away, as wounds which mar the Chosen One bring many sons to glory. How high, how wide, how deep the Father’s love for us. Behold the Man upon a cross, my sin upon His shoulders. Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers. It was my sin that held Him there until it was accomplished; His dying breath has brought me life, I know it is finished! How pure, how strong, how deep the Father’s love for us. I will not boast of anything: no gifts, no power, no wisdom. But I will boast in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection. Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer, but this I know with all my heart: His wounds have paid my ransom. How high, how wide, how pure, how strong, how deep the Father’s love for us.
† aPostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic (universal) church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
† GlorIa PatrI No. 622
† readInG of the sCrIPtures Philippians 4:4-7 (ESV)Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Pastor: The grass withers, the flower fades, Isaiah 40:8 (ESV)Congregation: but the word of our God will stand forever.
mInIstry of musIC The Prayer David Foster
Philip and Caitie Alongi, SoloistsI pray You’ll be our guide, and watch us where we go; and help us to be wise in times when we don’t know. Let this be our prayer, when we lose our way: Lead us to a place, guide us with your grace to a place where we’ll be safe. I pray we’ll find Your light, and hold it in our hearts when stars go out each night. Let this be our prayer, when shadows fill our day: Lead us to a place, guide us with Your grace, give us faith so we’ll be safe. We ask that life be kind, and watch us from above; we hope each soul will find another soul to love. Let this be our prayer: Just like every child, need to find a place, guide us with your grace, give us faith so we’ll be safe.

By God’s grace it is our desire to create an environment of grace and peace that is shaped and informed by Scripture so that in all things Christ will be glorified. Our intent is to practically and joyfully live out our calling to “glorify God and enjoy Him forever” in four major areas of emphasis.

Who Gets the Credit?by Dr. Jerry Newcombe
We could get a lot more done, even in the church, if we lay our egos aside and concentrate on glorifying God in everything we do. We pray every week, “For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the GLORY…” To God alone is the glory due. Yet sadly it’s easy to do what we do---even seemingly good deeds---for the attention of others. This is one of the things that Jesus took the Pharisees to task for (Matthew 6). They did their works of righteousness to be seen by men. He told them they had their reward in full. That little glory they might have received was the only credit they were going to get. The Bible says that God gives grace to the humble, but He opposes the proud. But does this mean we should not use our talents and gifts, lest we stimulate pride within us? Not at all. Consider the words of Eric Liddell, the great Olympic runner who was immortalized in the film CHARIOTS OF FIRE and who became a missionary to China and was even martyred there. He said, “Love does not think more highly of itself than it should. It recognizes that every gift and talent comes from God. It recognizes the responsibility to use and develop these gifts but not to become proud, arrogant, patronizing or to give itself airs because of them.”
That’s an interesting perspective coming from him. Here was a man who won world class recognition for his achievements. Thus, we should surely use and develop these gifts—to not do so is sloth—but the key is to develop them for the glory of God, as opposed to the glory of self.I’m convinced that a lot of work is not done because we are worried about making sure we get the credit. Chuck Swindoll once pointed out that President Reagan had this saying on a plaque on his desk: “There is no limit to what a man can do or where he can go if he doesn't mind who gets the credit.” In contrast, pride and envy limit themselves to that for which we will get the glory. This reminds me of how some actors quibble over who gets top billing in the movie, the TV program, the play. This is envy at work. Too often there is company politics and
backbiting to be found in Christian organizations or in churches. This is generally pride and envy at work. Envy and lust for power (pride). Yet we serve Jesus who said the greatest among you is the servant. Paul says, “Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another” (Gal. 5:26). Here are a few keys to humility:
♦ Remember that everything we have is ultimately a gift from God. Paul asks the Corinthian Christians, “What do you have that you did not receive?” (1 Cor. 4:7).
♦ Another key to humility can be found in the phrase “alter ego.” Change the spelling and turn it around: Lay your ego at the altar.
♦ Yet another key can be found in Psalm 115:1: “Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to Thy name be the glory.”
At this start of a new year, with so many great opportunities to serve the Lord, may He give us the grace to accomplish great things for Him and forget about who gets the credit. To God alone be the glory.
“And the winner is...”
