We also know their features and purpose. But we are much less familiar with the so-called "Ordinary Time during the year" or "Ordinary Time" for short. This liturgical season is the longest one, for it usually lasts 33 (and occasionally 34) weeks. This long period is divided into two uneven blocks of weeks. The first begins immediately after the feast of the Baptism of Jesus and ends on the day before Ash Wednesday,(which marks the begin- ning of the Lenten Season). The first period lasts from 5 to 9 weeks, depending on how early Lent starts. The second block begins on the Monday after the Solemnity of Pentecost and ends on the Saturdaythat precedes the First Sun- day of Advent." (Excerpts from The New Exploring God's Word) We have entered once again into the Ordinary Season in our Liturgical Calen- dar and are now on the Second Sunday in Ordinary Time. The first two disciples to follow Jesus according to the gospel of St John are Andrew and traditionally, John, son of Zebedee, even though John is not men- tioned specifically by name. Both Andrew and John are disciples of John the Baptist. When John the Baptist points out Jesus, these two begin to follow Him. As they were following Him, Jesus asked them, "What are you looking for?" The question of Jesus was answered by a question, "Rabbi, where do you live?" And when they finally came to see where Jesus was, they decided to stay with him, that is, to remain with him that day, and we can now say, the rest of their days. Andrew, one of those who sought Jesus and stayed with him later on shared his experience, "we have found the Messiah!" He goes on to teach what finding Jesus means. Good news is not to be kept. News is shared, proclaimed, broadcasted. So, Andrew shared all about Jesus to Peter. He brought Peter to Jesus and the rest is history. This, by the way is also what "loving others" means. To love others is to share with them the good that we have discovered.

We have entered once again into the Ordinary Season in our Liturgical Calen-dar and are now on the Second Sunday in Ordinary Time. The first two disciples to follow Jesus according to the gospel of St John are Andrew and traditionally, John, son of Zebedee, even though John is not men-tioned specifically by name. International Week of

Prayer for Christian

Unity: January 18-25

The theme of this year's Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is "Your Right Hand, O Lord, Glorious in Power." (Exodus

15:6). According to Graymoor Ecumeni-cal & Interreligious Institute (GEII). . . ,

"Throughout the Biblical narrative of sal-vation, an unmistakable motif is the unre-lenting determination of the Lord to form a people whom He could call His own.

The formation of such a people, united in a sacred covenant with God, is integral to

the Lord's plan of salvation and to the glorification of His name. The prophets repeatedly remind Israel that their cove-nant demanded that relationships among its various social groups should be char-

acterized by justice, compassion and mercy. Reconciliation often demands repentance, reparation and healing of

memories."

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity has a history of over 100 years . . . , in which Christians around the world have taken part in an octave of prayer for visi-ble Christian unity. By annually observ-ing the WPCU, Christians move toward

the fulfillment of Jesus' prayer at the Last Supper "that they all may be one." (cf.

John 17:21)
