Universal—Justice
That those who administer justice may work with integrity and that the injustice which prevails in the world may not have the last word.
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I hope you had a great week. I am so glad that the weather is a bit bet-ter.
I want to let you know the new procedure for taking communion to family members who are not able to be at the Sunday liturgy. This happens at the end of the celebration of the Sunday Masses (either the Saturday anticipated Mass or the Sunday morning Masses). If you have been doing this ministry for a while, I am offi-cially designating you as a Minister to the Homebound. If you have not done this be-fore and a family member is sick and you would like to take communion to them after Sunday Mass, please see me before Mass. I will designate you as a temporary Minister to the Homebound. If you are interested in doing this ministry on a regular basis, call the parish office and set up an appointment with me so that you can be trained.
The following will be the words I use inviting you to come forward at the end of Com-munion:
“Those designated as Ministers to the Homebound, please come forward at this time. These men and women will be taking Communion to those who could not be with us this weekend.”
Once the Body of Christ has been given to each minister, the following is said to the parish:
“Please raise your hand in blessing. Good and gracious God, thank you for the Gift of the Eucharist – your precious Body and Blood. Bless these men and women as they take communion to those who could not be with us today. May they also bring with them our love, our prayers and our concern. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
I hope this helps anyone who has a question about what we do and why we do it. I believe it is important to receive Holy Communion as often as possible. I also believe that those who are unable to come to Mass due to ill health or old age, deserve the gift of the Eucharist to strengthen their body, mind and spirit.
May you have a wonderful and blessed week. You are in my thoughts and prayers each day. May God bless you with the very best.
