The aim of installing the playground equipment was to encourage students hailing from far flung, remote and border areas to develop fond- ness for physical fitness. The schools had requested for assistance in terms of play- ground equipment and hence the Army installed play- ground slide and playground swings at the school ground. The playground equipment was handed over to the School Principal, Government Middle School, Jaba in the presence of the School Staff, Sarpanch of the villages and prominent persons of the area. They appreciated the gesture of Indian Army of looking after the needs of stu- dents. This initiative will go a long way in inspiring and nur- turing the children of the school for their good future. Sunil Singh, Landscape officer stated that the farmer faces lot of problems especial- ly the vagaries of weather, besides fragmented land with poor yield to sustain his fam- ily and it is high time that they should switch over to diversified agriculture like floriculture, apiculture and mushroom cultivation etc. On this occasion, beekeep- ing literature and other accessories were distributed among the participants. STATE TIMES NEWS SAMBA: World Meteorological Day was cele- brated by Agro-meteorology Section, Division of Agronomy, SKUAST_J, Chatha, Jammu with the farmers of village Sarthian Kalan, block and tehsil Gangwal of Samba district on Saturday in order to sensi- tise the farmers about weath- er parameters and their role on agriculture and its allied field. The programme was initiat- ed under the dynamic guid- ance of Dr J. P Sharma, Director Research, SKUAST -Jammu. In this programme about 105 farmers out of which 80 men and 25 women participated from nearby vil- lages and five scientist of briefed the importance of weather in Agriculture. Dr. Veena Sharma, Technical officer, GKMS informed the farmers about the role of weather based Agro Advisory Services pro- vided by university. Dr. Mahender Singh, Sr. Scientist & Nodal officer of the scheme stressed the farmer that how to crop plants are related with weath- er and their responses in dif- ferent metabolic activities of the plant and futher stress that farmers can take the advantage of such pro- gramme for future planning under climate change/vari- ability and its effect on agri- culture. Various scientists namely Dr. V. B. Singh, Sr Scientist & Incharge, RRSS, Raya,Samba told about the various disease and their intensity with respect to weather parameters there- after Dr Brij Nandan PRSS, Samba brief about the scope of Kharif & Pulse in the area and their efficient manage- ment with the weathers and Dr. Rohit Sharma, Technical Officer delivered the valuable talks and apprised the partic- ipating farmers about strate- gies to be followed to counter the ill effects of future cli- mate change. Naib Sarpanch Smt. Priyanka Devi and ex- Sarpanch Soorat Singh Singh ex Naib Sarpanch, Parladpur also participated and stressed the farmer to take the advantage of such programme. STATE TIMES NEWS KATHUA: To ensure larger participation of voters in the ensuing Lok Sabha election, a series of activities under Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) were organised at Tehsil Nagri of Kathua by the district administration to motivate the general masses. The activities included Run for Democracy and a demon- stration on the functioning of EVM and VVPAT machines which were aimed at inform- ing, educating, motivating and facilitating voters to ensure maximum participa- tion in the election which is healthy for strengthening the democracy. SSP Kathua, Shridhar Patil said that programmes under SVEEP are very helpful to tap the new voters in the age group of 18-19 years, pro- mote greater awareness amongst youth and students about electoral process and to seek their assistance in facili- tating voter registration. ADC Kathua, Ghansham Singh said that SVEEP initi- ated new measures related to voter facilitation in areas of registration, issuing voter identity cards and suggests ways and means to make the election process voter friendly. These initiatives include Voters' Helpline numbers, searching name in the Voter list through internet and SMS, Voters' Facilitation Booths, Ideal Polling booths, EVM/VVPAT familiarization camps, Voter Slip, Expanding the I-Card basket i.e., mak- ing other identity proofs (apart from EPIC) as a valid proof for voting. PO DRDA, Amar Jyoti Raina, CEO Kathua, Prem Nath, Tehsildar Nagri, Suninder Jeet Kour, EO Nagri Municipal committee and large number of locals were present on the occasion. STATE TIMES NEWS SAMBA: In connection with the 446th Parkash Diwas of Goswami Guru Nabha Dass ji Maharaj falling on 8th April,2019, an impressive Shobha Yatra was taken out in Samba on Saturday. Thousands of devotees of Goswami Guru Nabha Dass ji Maharaj participated in the Shobha Yatra. Dr. Devinder Manyal, Former Minister for Health and Medical Education and for- mer MLA Samba was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Many prominent citizens of Samba, senior leaders of var- ious socio- political organiza- tions accompanied the Shoba Yatra. The devotees sang Bhajans and their enthusiasm charged the atmosphere with religious fervour . The Shobha Yatra culminated at Goswami Guru Nabha Dass ji Maharaj temple located at Budhwani,near Samba. A community Langer was also served at the culmina- tion of the function. STATE TIMES NEWS KATHUA: Govt. Degree College in collaboration with District Police Kathua, under Civic Action Programme organised awareness programme to sensitise students about ill effects of drugs addiction in the college premises. SDPO Billawar Ravinder Singh was the Chief Guest on the occa- sion. Prof. Sanjeev Gupta (Vice- Principal) appreciated the initiative taken by Police Department to eliminate the rising menace of Drugs. Later, an awareness video on Drug Addiction was played by District Police Kathua to spread awareness about ill effects of Drugs Addiction. Students of the GDC Billawar also performed skit on the occasion to create awareness on the topic. SDPO Billawar Ravinder Singh advised students to stay away from Drug menace and sought support of the student community in eradi- cating this growing menace in the society. STATE TIMES NEWS KISHTWAR: In an endeav- our to provide a platform to the job seekers and to create awareness for them about various government spon- sored schemes, District Development Commissioner Kishtwar, Angrez Singh Rana today inaugurated one-day Job Fair-cum- Placement programme here at TRC ground. SSP Kishtwar, Shakti Kumar Pathak, ADDC Kishtwar, Mohd. Hanief Malik, CHO, CAHO, AD Fishers, AD Employment, several District Officers, bankers and representatives of various private institu- tions/agencies were present in the event. He impressed upon departments and agencies to motivate people to establish their income generating units under KVIB, JKEDI & other financial agencies as livelihood source. He said government jobs are very limited and youth should seek other viable options for which the Government will help them. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Gurvinderjeet Singh was the chief guest while Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Santosh Sharma was the guest of honour on the occasion. District Tuberculosis Officer, Dr. Kavi Raj Sharma briefed about the achievement and work done in the field of eliminating Tuberculosis disease in the district. The camp was organised byAICRP (Honeybee andPollinators), SKUAST-Jammu in collaboration withDepartment of Floriculture,Reasi. More than 50 farm-ers/rural youths/beekeepersof the area from adjacentareas of village attended theprogramme. Dr. DevinderSharma suggested diversifi-cation of agriculture andadoption of more lucrativeoptions like Apiculture (Bee

keeping) for enhancing theirlivelihood. Bees not only thefarmers make sweet divi-dends but bee keeping alsohelps in increasing agricul-ture productivity throughpollination, he added.
