Praise & Worship
Doxology: “Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow”
The Call to Worship
Leader: I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord, our feet
shall stand within Thy gates O Jerusalem! (Psalm 122:1)
People: For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in
the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. (Psalm 84:10)
Leader: Because of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek Thy good. (Psalm
122:9)
People: Those that be planted in the house of the Lord, shall flourish in the courts of our
God. (Psalm 92:13)
Leader: Blessed are they that dwell in Thy house. Lord, I have loved Thy habitation, the
place where Thy honor dwelleth. (Psalm 26:8)
People: For the Lord is in His holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before Him.
(Habakkuk 2:20).
Leader: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy
sight, O Lord my strength and my redeemer. (Psalm 19:14)
Unison: O Sing unto the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things. Make a
joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth, sing His praises. (Psalm 98:1, 4)

The Hymn of Praise A.M.E. Hymnal #347
I’m Pressing on the Upward Way
(Higher Ground)
I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining every day;
Still praying as I’m onward bound,
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”
Refrain:
Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith, on Heaven’s tableland,
A higher plane than I have found;
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
My heart has no desire to stay
Where doubts arise and fears dismay;
Though some may dwell where those abound,
My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.
Refrain
I want to live above the world,
Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;
For faith has caught the joyful sound,
The song of saints on higher ground.
Refrain
I want to scale the utmost height,
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I’ll pray till heav’n I’ve found,
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”
Refrain

Scripture Lesson (Please Stand for the Reading of God’s Words)
Old Testament
Responsive: Isaiah 43:15-21 (Good News Translation) – Moving Forward
Leader: I am the Lord, your holy God. I created you, Israel, and I am your king.” Long
ago the Lord made a road through the sea, a path through the swirling waters.
People: He led a mighty army to destruction, an army of chariots and horses. Down
they fell, never to rise, snuffed out like the flame of a lamp!
Leader: But the Lord says, “Do not cling to events of the past or dwell on what happened
long ago. Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already—
you can see it now!
People: I will make a road through the wilderness and give you streams of water
there. Even the wild animals will honor me; jackals and ostriches will praise
me when I make rivers flow in the desert to give water to my chosen people.
ALL: They are the people I made for myself, and they will sing my praises!”
New Testament
Unison: Philippians 3:12-16 (New King James Version) - Moving Forward
Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of
that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to
have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching
forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call
of God in Christ Jesus.

The Summary of the Decalogue
LEADER: From all that dwell below the skies…
SUNG: From all that dwell below the skies, Let the Creator’s praise arise; Let the
Redeemer’s Name be sung, through every land, by every tongue. LEADER: Hear what Christ our Savior saith, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all
thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great
commandment. And the second is like unto it: Thou shalt love thy
neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the
prophets.
SUNG: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in
the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. A~Men

Pastor’s Words
GET OUT AND VOTE
Dear FAME Church Family,
In just a few days, citizens across the United States will have the right and the responsibility to go the polls to elect,
federal, state and local officials. There is much at stake for our municipalities, states and nation in this year’s mid-term
election. I do not have the words to convey how important this election is. Control of state legislatures, governors’
offices and control of the US Congress will be determined.
The outcome of elections across the country will be determined by people like you, the registered voters, who go to the
polls and cast their ballots. Your vote represents your interests and participation in our democracy. It is your voice in
our government. If each of us registers and votes, we will have tremendous power. It is not enough to register, WE
MUST REGISTER AND VOTE. Bottom line: If you have the right to vote use it. Young and old, rich and poor, you
and I, by bus, car or on foot must get to the poll to cast our vote on or before November 6th.

Scripture of the Day
Moving Forward. “Let your eyes look straight ahead and your sight be focused in front of you.”
Proverbs 4:25
Quote of the Day “Sometimes God closes doors because it’s time to MOVE Forward. He knows you won’t move unless
your circumstances force you. Trust the transition. God’s got you! Remember you can’t reach what’s in
front of you until you let go of what’s behind you.” Oprah Winfrey
Thought of the Week
"...Do not [earnestly] remember the former things; neither consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new
thing! Now it springs forth; do you not perceive and know it and will you not give heed to it? I will even make a
way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert..." – Isaiah 43:18-19 (AMP)
God does not want us to be backward looking, going through life looking in the rear vision mirror. But we so often
can't help ourselves. We remember the hurts of the past and the mistakes we made. It's time now to look ahead and
focus on what's before us. God wants to do a new thing in our lives. He wants us to rise up to our full potential in
Him. He has called us to do mighty things. He will even make a way when we feel lost and refresh us when we're
burning in the heat. We have got to keep on moving forward. It's only in moving forward that we ever accomplish
what God has called us to. We can't stay where we're at, nor can we go backwards. The only direction we can go is
forward. Yes, it can be hard – but it's the only way if we want to move on in God and grow.
Don't be afraid to keep moving on,
For what was before, now has gone —
God wants to accomplish so much more,
But we need to move forward in the Lord.

Humor of the Week A guy is reading his paper when his wife walks up behind him and smacks him on the back of the head with a frying
pan. He asks, "What was that for?" She says, "I found a piece of paper in your pocket with 'Betty Sue' written on it."
He says, "Jeez, honey, remember last week when I went to the track? 'Betty Sue' was the name of the horse I went
there to bet on." She shrugs and walks away.
Three days later he's reading his paper when she walks up behind him and smacks him on the back of the head again
with the frying pan. He asks, "What was that for?" She answers, "Your horse called."
